HOAX … Amber Alert for Missing 3 year old Siraj Unir Davenport was a Fraud and Hoax

Posted in: Child Welfare,Missing Persons,WTF

An Amber Alert was issued in North Carolina on Sunday after 3 year old HoaxSiraj Munir “Roji” Davenport was reported missing from the Brightleaf Flea Market. The Amber Alert was later canceled at 12:27 am on Tuesday morning citing that the boy was safe.

The problem? The 3 year old was never missing. The entire report that they boy went missing from the flea market was a hoax and a fraud. Reports now show that the boy was never even at the fleas market and may have actually been over seas. It is uncertain whether the initial 911 call was even made by the boy’s mother; however according to accounts call was made by a person who reportedly was boy’s mother, Rosnah Thomason  .

Local, State and Federal authorities took part in the search for the missing 3 year old Roji. Let alone the many that volunteered and the public outpouring to help this family in need. The result, a fraud and an expense to tax payers for resources that could have been used to help a family of a missing child that was really in trouble. One can only hope that charges will be brought for filing a false report and monetary funds will be recouped.

Local, state and federal investigators searched Sunday and Monday by air, ground and water for the child, and FBI investigators spent most of Monday interviewing Thomason.

“There’s been a lot of man-hours spent. There’s been a lot of money spent,” Gillikin said.

Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell said his department alone spent thousands of taxpayer dollars looking for the boy.

“Unfortunately in situations like this, it makes the next one that comes along that much more difficult,” Gillikin said.

It’s not possible, the chief said, to put a price tag on what the cost of the false report will be in the long term for credibility in the community.

I think it desensitizes the public to these situations – that when they see these in the future, there’s more of an inclination not to pay that much attention to it. So it hurts all around,” Gillikin said. (WRAL)
