Two year old son of Minnesota Vikings Adrian Peterson died Friday night from injuries suffered from child abuse at a Sioux City, South Dakota hospital. Police have arrested 27 year old Joseph Robert Patterson and he has been charged with aggravated battery of an infant and aggravated assault. Patterson is the 2 year old’s mother’s boyfriend, who has a history of violence against women and children. Also, now that the 2 year old boy has died from his injuries as a result from child abuse injuries, Patterson will most likely see murder charges added as well.  Joseph Robert Patterson made his first court appearance Friday morning in Canton, where a judge set bond at $750,000 cash only.

Police and a prosecutor on Friday refused to identify the victim or his parents, except on court documents that give the boy’s birth date and the initials T.R.R. But Peterson’s father, Nelson, told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that the child is one of Peterson’s children

CNN:

A 2-year-old boy who was reportedly the son of Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson died Friday of injuries he suffered after allegedly being abused, police said.

Sioux Falls, South Dakota, police said Joseph Robert Patterson, 27, has been charged with aggravated battery of an infant and aggravated assault. If convicted on the charges, both felonies, Patterson could face up to 40 years in prison and an $80,000 fine.

Prosecutors are considering filing additional charges against Patterson in light of the boy’s death, according to police.

Soon after the news came out of the boy’s death, Adrian Peterson took to Twitter to express his gratitude to his family, fans and the “fraternity of brothers” in the NFL for their support.

“God Bless everyone and thank u so much,” he wrote.

UPDATE I: Man Accused of Killing Adrian Peterson’s 2 Year Old Son had History of Violence:

Court records show Patterson has a history of domestic violence.

He was indicted in June 2012 on several counts of simple assault involving an ex-girlfriend and her 3-year-old son, and later was charged for violating a no-contact order. He was sentenced to one year in jail for both cases but that time was suspended on the condition he attend domestic violence counseling.

The victim in that case — who is not the mother of T.R.R. — said in a request for a protection order that Patterson had spanked her 3-year-old so hard for misbehaving in church that he needed ice for welts on his buttocks. When she got angry with him for it, she wrote, Patterson made the children go to their rooms, then pulled the shades, grabbed her by the throat and waved his fist in her face.

He stopped when their infant son began to cry.

“He has (threatened) to kill me multiple times,” she wrote.

The woman asked for temporary protection orders against him twice in Minnehaha County prior to the birth of their son, who was in her custody when T.R.R. was injured Wednesday.

A different woman sought a protection order against Patterson in 2004 in Jackson County, where he attended high school.

In court on Friday, Lincoln County State’s Attorney Tom Wollman asked a judge to revoke the terms of Patterson’s suspended sentence on the two domestic abuse cases. Judge Stuart Tiede instead set a revocation hearing for Oct. 30.

UPDATE II: Peterson met son for first time after beating.

Well now we know why in good conscience Adrian Peterson is still playing football on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. It would appear that he has never met his son before until he saw him on life-support following the beating. Isn’t that special. Sorry, but Peterson fathered this child, out of respect one would think that he could take Sunday off.

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson met his 2-year-old son for the first time while he was on life support, TMZ reports.

The football star — whose son died on Friday after his mother’s boyfriend allegedly badly beat him — learned three months ago that he had a child with a woman living in South Dakota, the site reports.

The woman called him with the news after her ex took a  paternity test revealing the boy didn’t belong to him — and the NFL star quickly made arrangements to meet the tot, the site reports.
