In Aruba They Strike and Protest for Higher Wages but not Justice for Natalee

So Arubans do know how to protest against the establishment to get their demands. The only problem is their protests always seem to be for money rather than what is morally right.

The unions (SDA) have not received anything yet from the government this morning at 10:00, which was what they have demanded in Friday’s ultimatum.  The government was still deliberating about the salary demands of the civil servants, when this paper went to press. 

Does one think for one moment that the Aruban people would protest against their government officials for “JUSTICE” in the Natalee Holloway case? Far be it from any one to be for a cause or a protest that does not serve them financially. Or is always about the money in Aruba? In reality, if they did protest for justice in the case of missing teen, Natalee Holloway, Aruba would in the end benefit financially as their tourism would actually come back following said justice.

Why doesn’t Aruba … protest for JUSTICE FOR NATALEE!!!

No proposal from the government yet  (Amigoe: 3/10/2008)

ORANJESTAD – The unions (SDA) have not received anything yet from the government this morning at 10:00, which was what they have demanded in Friday’s ultimatum.  The government was still deliberating about the salary demands of the civil servants, when this paper went to press. 

Chances are that the unions will tell their members to go on strike.  The different unions like Simar, Seppa, FTA, SPA, and OPPA had a meeting at 11:30 today, because they didn’t receive a reaction from the government.  Whether the government will stick to her viewpoint to give each civil servant an annual allowance of 950 florins to compensate for the increased cost of living is not known yet.  Premier Nelson Oduber was very clear last week: ‘the government does not have money for indexation’.

Bloke Sindical has already indicated that she will take the government to court. 

Simar had called on her members to go on strike today, but decided to first wait for the proposal of the government.  They met around 17:00 to determine whether to continue with their action or not.  Several teachers said that after their action of last Friday, they are intimidated by the school principles.  Simar condemned this behavior of the principles, indicating that the principles forget that they are also civil servants.  Simar incites her members not to feel intimidated.
