Bicycle Bomb Attack at NYC Time Square Military Recruiting Station

Posted in: Bizarre,Military,War on Terror

A bomb went off this morning at a military recruiting station in Time Square in New York City. No injuries have been reported and no suspects. Further proof that there are nuts every where and that people must continue to be vigilant. With all the cameras in the Time Square area, it would be impossible for the person who committed this crime not to have been seen.

NEW YORK —  An explosive device caused minor damage to an empty military recruiting station in Times Square early Thursday, shaking guests in hotel rooms high above.

Police blocked off the area to investigate the explosion, which occurred at about 3:45 a.m., shattering the station’s glass entryway. No one was injured.

“If it is something that’s directed toward American troops than it’s something that’s taken very seriously and is pretty unfortunate,” said Army Capt. Charlie Jaquillard, who is the commander of Army recruiting in Manhattan. (Fox News)

Small Explosion Rocks New York’s Times Square

Law enforcement officials tell ABC News that a single, small improvised device was tossed, apparently by a man on a bike, at the armed forces booth in Times Square early this morning, causing the center of midtown Manhattan to be locked down and subways to be diverted but no major property damage.

UPDATE I: Letters after Times Square bombing claim: ‘We did it’

NEW YORK (CNN) — Letters claiming responsibility for the bombing of a military recruiting station in New York’s Times Square arrived in the Washington offices of several members of Congress on Thursday, just hours after the blast, authorities said.

Police are searching for a hooded bicyclist seen on a surveillance tape just before an early morning bombing at the office, according to the FBI.

The letters sent to Capitol Hill contained at least one picture of the station, apparently before the attack, a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation told CNN.

UPDATE II: ‘We Did It’ letters eyed in NY bombing

The manila envelopes contained a photo of a man standing in front of the recruiting station before it was bombed. The photo was the kind commonly sent as a holiday greeting card, according to a Democratic aide who spoke on condition of anonymity because the matter is under investigation.

The message on the card: “Happy New Year, We Did It.”

The envelope also contained a packet of approximately 10 sheets of paper that seemed to be a political manifesto railing against the Iraq war and a booklet. The aide didn’t know what the booklet was. A second aide, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said similar letters arrived in as many as 10 offices.

Capitol Police, FBI and U.S. Postal Inspection Service were investigating. In an e-mail to lawmakers, Capitol Police said the envelopes went through the standard security process. That process, which involves radiating incoming mail, can easily take a week or more, making it likely the letters were mailed well ahead of the bombing.
