Tropical Storm Gabrielle Takes Aim at North Carolina Shore

Tropical storm Gabrielle, with winds near 50 mph, takes aim at the NC shore. Gabrielle will pass over the North Carolina Outer Banks and hit land fall Sunday.

A tropical storm warning remains in effect from Surf City, North Carolina — about 25 miles northeast of Wilmington — north to Cape Charles, Virginia, on the southern tip of the Delmarva Peninsula. A warning means tropical storm conditions are expected within the next 24 hours.

A tropical storm watch remains in effect in southeastern Virginia for the lower Chesapeake Bay south of New Point Comfort. A watch means tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, usually within 36 hours. (CNN)

Gabrielle Aims at North Carolina Coast

Gabrielle strengthened slightly – though not to hurricane level – as it moved toward a midday landfall between Cape Lookout and Cape Hatteras. After a brief landfall over state’s famous chain of barrier islands and Pamlico Sound, Gabrielle was expected to take a sharp turn back into the Atlantic.
