Disgraced Former SC Gov. Mark Sanford Plans Run for Congress

Posted in: Government,Governors,House of Representatives,Republican,WTF

Disgraced former Republican South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford is planning to run for Congress for the  seat he held almost a decade ago. As reported at the Politico, Sanford plans to run for Tim Scott’s Congressional seat who was recently picked by Gov. Nikki Haley to replace the retiring Senator Jim DeMint. Seriously? Do you really think that the people are willing to forgive and forget your fall from grace after having  admitted to an affair with a woman from Argentina in 2009? Sanford may actually have to face his ex-wife in the primary. This guy just needs to get on with his life and stay away from politics.

Sanford is planning to launch a bid for the seat that GOP Rep. Tim Scott is vacating to fill Jim DeMint’s Senate seat. Sanford held the seat, which encompasses the Charleston and Hilton Head areas, between 1995 and 2001 before becoming governor.

A campaign would mark something of a comeback bid for Sanford, whose political ambitions dimmed after it was revealed that he had engaged in an extramarital affair.

Sanford could face competition, however. Among the potential candidates are state House Majority Whip Jimmy Merrill, state Rep. Chip Limehouse and state Sens. Larry Grooms and Chip Campsen. Jenny Sanford, Mark Sanford.
