Aruba, Why Arrest Lorenzo Van Rijn Now? Is There a greater Reason?

Posted in: Aruba,Crime,Jossy Mansur,World

The question still remains as to why Aruban police finally decided to arrest Lorenzo Van Rijn when it has been suspected for quite some time that he was involved in drugs? So after all this time, why now? What changed?

Could Lorenzo be a part of something bigger? Is Lorenzo just the tip of the iceberg?  That question was asked to Jossy Mansur, Managing editor of Diario.

“We think he’s part of something larger, but have no way of knowing for sure.”

Jossy Mansur always went on to say the following:

We think that the police moved in on him and others partially because they are mad for what happened to one of their cars that was taken by an anti-social and then burned somewhere near Santa Cruz. The culprit has since been arrested.

They went into an all-out search of houses they already had under surveillance, that included Van Rijn’s home.

You are right that many people within the authorities suspected what he was doing with drugs, but for some tactical reason never moved in on him. I think they had him under surveillance for a long time to determine his contacts, what he was producing, importing, and to whom he was selling his illegal products.

Bottom line is I’m glad they searched, found and confiscated the drugs and the weapons, and arrested those involved. I hope they extend this measure and go into an all-out campaign to either eradicate or bring to a minimum the drugs circulating on the island, and the illegal weapons everyone seems to have in their possession.
