Wishing He Were Dead

An 103 year old man in Patna, India wishes he was dead so desperately he is lying in his grave every day. Basanta Roy dug his grave in the Hindu tradition next to his wife. For the past 6 years he has tended the grave and lay down in it waiting to die.

But in true adherence to Murphy’s Law, poor Basanta has been denied the death that he so craves. Instead the site of his grave has now become a quasi tourist attraction as people from the surrounding region come to view him laying in his grave.

The perverse side of me laughs at this story, but the other side admires a man who so loves his wife that he wishes for death to be with her. So when you all feel melodramatic and say you wish you were dead, think of poor 103 year old Basanta Roy who embodies that sentiment every day.
