The Word according to John Edwards:John_edwards_goof

John Edwards once again making stupid and ignorant comments all in the name of political aspirations. Edwards, please do not speak for Jesus, you can barely speak for yourself. Actually Mr. Edwards, lying would probably appall Jesus. Presidential wannabe John Edwards made the following statements regarding what would appall Jesus.

Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards says Jesus would be appalled at how the United States has ignored the plight of the suffering, and that he believes children should have private time to pray at school.

Edwards, in an interview with the Web site Beliefnet.com, said Jesus would be most upset with the selfishness of Americans and the country’s willingness to go to war “when it’s not necessary.”

“I think that Jesus would be disappointed in our ignoring the plight of those around us who are suffering and our focus on our own selfish short-term needs,” Edwards told the site. “I think he would be appalled, actually.”

In this same interview John Edwards states he does not think that America is a Christian nation. This man thinks he knows what Jesus might think? OK.

Funny, wonder what he would say about your “selfish short term needs” of your lavish 28,200 square foot home? Exactly what planet do you live on Edwards that says Americans do not care about helping others? The United States is one of the most generous at helping others in the world.

There is altogether too much talk about the United States being ungenerous with foreign aid. We show up as 21st in the rankings, in per capita terms, according to one estimate. These figures neglect remittances, where the U.S. is a very clear first with $28.4 billion a year sent to other countries. The bottom line: when it comes to other nations, the United States is the most generous country in the world.

Here is a list of some of the top givers, people that Edwards would deem selfish. I guess John Edwards is also unaware if the United States Agency for International Development that “extend a helping hand to those people overseas struggling to make a better life, recover from a disaster or striving to live in a free and democratic country.” I guess John Edwards also did not receive the memo that in 2004 Americans gave over $248 billion to charities.

In 2004, Americans gave over $248 billion to charity. Our dollars helped support religious causes, environmental concerns and educational charities. But in a nation that’s obsessed with competition, it’s impossible not to ask: Where do people give the most?

As it turns out, there are profound regional differences both in how much money people give to charity and in what kinds of organizations they help support. According to a recent study by the Giving USA Foundation, which is part of the American Association of Fundraising Counsel in Glenview, Ill., American households donate an average 2% of their income to charitable causes each year. Maybe Jesus would only be appalled at individuals that would use his name in a negative way for political purposes. Very few things would appall Jesus, that most likely would.

  • Sister Toldjah: You can always tell when the campaign season rolls around, because Democrats start talking about their ‘faith’ as if it’s old hat.
  • Hot Air: If that’s what John Edwards’ personal Jesus teaches, he is as confused as Edwards is. I wonder if his hair is as nice.
  • Blue Crab Boulevard: And so we have John Edwards playing a self-righteous and self-serving mockery of “What would Jesus do?”. Or in this case, what would Jesus denounce.
