New Republic Gives George W. Bush His Due On Democracy, New Republic?

Posted in: Main

Martin Peretz has a brilliant article on George W. Bush and the lack of credit he is given for his bold and controversial ideas he has taken the initiative on in the Middle East. The Liberals and Democratic Party just give him no credit. The beginning of Martin’s article sounds like it was ripped off the pages of Scared Monkeys; however, it is coming from the New Republic. hardly a right wing media outlet.

If George W. Bush were to discover a cure for cancer, his critics would denounce him for having done it unilaterally, without adequate consultation, with a crude disregard for the sensibilities of others.

This is a must read article, GIVING GEORGE W. BUSH HIS DUE ON DEMOCRACY. I watched the review of this earlier this morning on SPAN with Brian Lamb. Listen here (Washington Journal Entire Program 4/1/05, Go to minute 32.40) its worth listening to Liberals make idiots out of themselves.

Here are some poignant passages. This is one of the best reads I have seen in a long time. Who would have thought from The New Republic.

The achievements of Bush’s foreign policy abroad represent a revolution in the foreign policy culture at home. The traditional Republican mentality that was so perfectly and meanly represented by Bush pà ¨re and Baker precluded the United States from pressing the Arabs about reform–about anything–for decades.

The Clinton administration seized on every possible excuse–from the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993, right through the atrocities in Kenya and Tanzania, to the attack on the USS Cole–not to respond meaningfully to Osama bin Laden.

History has never traveled in the Middle East as fast as it has during the last two years. In this place where time seems to have stopped, time has suddenly accelerated. It may be true (more likely, it is not) that a deep yearning for democracy has been latent throughout the region for a long time.

The fine fruits of the Bush administration’s indifference to international opinion may be seen now in Lebanon, too. What is happening there is the most concrete intra-Arab consequence of the Iraq war.

In one of the most honest comments I have heard come from a Democrats mouth in a long time, as hatred toward GWB and regaining Democratic Party power have blinded them to the fact that they are supposed to be American’s first; the following dead on correct.

None of this happened by spontaneous generation. Yes, there were lucky breaks: Yasir Arafat died, Syria conspired somehow to have former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri assassinated.

It is simply stupid, empirically and philosophically, to deny that all or any of this would have happened without the deeply unpopular but historically grand initiative of Bush

.
