North Korea and Kim Jong Il has conducted Underground Nuclear Test … “UN”clear Response

Posted in: Politics,War on Terror,World

It is being reported that North Korea has conducted an underground nuclear test. The test Northkorea_nukestestwas conducted at 9:36 p.m. EDT Sunday.   The tests were conducted in spite of opposition against them. Against UN demands that North Korea stop any nuclear tests, Kim Jong Il and North Korea defied the world and did them anyhow. What will the United Nations do now? Will they for once take a firm action against North Korea?

North Korea said Monday it has performed its first-ever nuclear weapons test. The country’s official Korean Central News Agency said the test was performed successfully and there was no radioactive leakage from the site. (Breitbart)

“The field of scientific research in the DPRK (North Korea’s official name) successfully conducted an underground nuclear test under secure conditions on October 9 … at a stirring time when all the people of the country are making a great leap forward in the building of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation,” KCNA reported.

Late Sunday in Washington, the U.S. military told CNN it believed the report to be true, but was working to fully confirm it.

Senior U.S. officials said they also believed the test took place. (CNN)

Upon hearing the news, Asian stocks tumbled. There is nothing like an underground nuclear test to inspire “no confidence” in a region for its economy.

“A nuclear test is different from just firing missiles,” said Yang Jeung Won, who oversees about $2.1 billion as chief investment officer at Samsung Investment Trust Management Co. in Seoul. “North Korea is making its neighbors very nervous because unlike before, they don’t look that eager to talk things out.”

Markets rose in New Zealand, Malaysia and Thailand. They fell elsewhere.

What does North Korea say about the event that will most likely bring world sanctions upon them and bring a world closer to war? …Â   North Korea hails historic nuclear test. According to the China Daily:

The country’s official Korean Central News Agency said the underground test was performed successfully “with indigenous wisdom and technology 100 percent,” and that no radioactive material leaked from that test site.

“The test is 100 percent safe,” said the KCNA.

“It marks a historic event as it greatly encouraged and pleased the (Korean People’s Army) and people that have wished to have powerful self-reliant defense capability,” KCNA said. “It will contribute to defending the peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the area around it.”
