Much to the Dismay of OWS Protester Boycotts, Black Friday Sales Rise to Record 6.6%

The Occupy Wall Street protesters lose again. OWS called for boycotts and Americans responded with Buycotts.

Much to the OWS dismay, Black Friday sales increased by a record 6.6%. As the OWS protesters tried to prevent Americans from going to businesses like WalMart and Best Buy, Americans provided their own “Freedom of Speech” and spoke with their wallets.

Despite 9% unemployment, more Americans below the poverty level, record number on food stamps, 17% believing the country is headed in the right direction and only 8% rating the US economy as good or excellent, 152 million people came together to spend $11.4 billion on Black Friday. Granted, this is only one day … but it is better than the alternative.

Black Friday sales increased 6.6 percent to the largest amount ever as U.S. consumers shrugged off 9 percent unemployment and went shopping.

Consumers spent $11.4 billion, ShopperTrak said in a statement yesterday. Foot traffic rose 5.1 percent on Black Friday, according to the Chicago-based research firm.

As many as 152 million people were expected to shop at stores and websites on Black Friday, up 10 percent from last year, the National Retail Federation said. The Washington-based NRF is scheduled to release Thanksgiving weekend sales today.

Sadly, many individuals who went out on Black Friday and purchased items acted in less than an appropriate manner, it is not any less inappropriate or classless than the OWS protesters who failed to convince anyone to boycott Walmart or the other big boys on the block.

President Obama must be caught in the middle and not know what to say? Does he praise the economic spending or say nothing because his endorsed OWS protest movement failed in their efforts?
