Amber Alert Issued for Missing Child William McQuain in Germantown, MD … Mother Jane McQuain Found Murdered Inside Home (UPDATE: Body of William McQuain Found)

Maryland State Police have issued an AMBER ALERT for 11 year old William McQuain who was last seen in Germantown, Maryland on September 30. The boy’s mother, 51 year old Jane McQuain, was found  murdered inside her home at the 13100 block of Briarcliff Terrace about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Germantown, MD.  Investigators said the death was caused by blunt force trauma, and is being called a homicide. Police believe that William McQuain has been abducted.

William McQuain, described as a light-skinned African American, is five feet tall, 85 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

Authorities say the boy was last seen at his home on the 13100 block of Briarcliff Terrace in Germantown.  Investigators believe the boy may be with his mother’s 2011 black Honda CRV with MD plate number 5AG9405, which is also missing from the scene.

News accounts make no mention of the boys father or if there were any boyfriends. Police have made no mention of who they think might have abducted William McQuain.

UPDATE I: Curtis Lopez, the husband of murdered Jane McQuain was arrested and  taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. Thursday. He was charged with first degree murder; however, 11 year old William McQuain is still missing.

The husband of a slain woman was arrested in North Carolina on Thursday and charged with first-degree murder, but police said they were still searching for her missing 11-year-old son.

Curtis Lopez, 45, was taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. Thursday as he was leaving an EconoLodge in Charlotte, N.C. The arrest came after Jane McQuain was found dead in the bedroom of her condominium on Wednesday night in Germantown, about 30 miles northwest of Washington.

UPDATE I: Sadly the body of missing 11 year old William McQuain has been found.  Curtis Lopez, who already has been charged in the killing of Jane McQuain, is also thee “prime suspect” in William’s death. Look for another first-degree murder charge for him as well in the death of William McQuain.

The body was found Tuesday morning by in a wooded area of the westbound shoulder off Route 121 near Route 355 in the Clarksburg area.

“This is not the ending we were hoping for, everyone involved in this held on to a shred of hope that we would find William alive,” said police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks.
