Republican Mark Amodei wins the 2nd District House seat in tonight’s Nevada House special election. From the outset of the counting after the polls closed, Amodei was in the lead with 56% of the vote. AmodeiĀ  will replace Republican Dean Heller who was appointed from the House to the Senate in May 2011 to replace Republican John Ensign who resigned in scandal.

Amodei easily bested Democrat Kate Marshall Tuesday in the rural Nevada district that has never elected a Democrat.

Amodei is a former state GOP chairman. He promised to fight for a balanced budget amendment in Congress and signed an anti-tax pledge.
