Barack Obama, you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression …

Former President George W. Bush has declined an invitation from Barack Obama to go to Ground Zero following the killing of terror mastermind Osama Bin Laden. As reported at the Politico, GWB declined stating he is out of the media spotlight and pretty much wants to keep it that way.

Former President has already been at Ground Zero … NYC and America will never forget

Former President George W. Bush has turned down President Barack Obama’s invitation to join him at ground zero on Thursday, citing his desire to avoid the media glare.

“President Bush appreciated the invite, but has chosen in his post-presidency to remain largely out of the spotlight,” Bush spokesman David Sherzer told POLITICO in an email Tuesday night. “He continues to celebrate with all Americans this important victory in the war on terror.”

Obama — who has sharply criticized Bush for neglecting the hunt for bin Laden by invading Iraq — made the offer to Bush shortly after he decided on his New York trip, according to two people familiar with the situation.

President Barack Obama had an opportunity the day that the news was announced that Osama Bin Laden had been killed to invite GWB to the White House and have a joint presser. That would have gone a long way to mend fences and bring the country together. Obama could have made political hay to have had GWB, the president who began the hunt for Bin Laden and laid the groundwork to do so, and the current president, the one who gave the order to kill Osama, both on the podium at the same time. However, instead since the death of Bin Laden was announced, Obama and his minions have continued to not give credit to the former president. As stated at Weasel Zippers, it was a wise choice by W.

I can only ask the question … why is Obama going to Ground Zero? I would like to think that this is more than a shameless Photo Op by Obama to use in a future campaign commercial, but I cant see its purpose. Personally, I believe, as does Jammie Wearing Fool, this is in poor taste for Obama to do a victory lap at Ground Zero. He plans to meet with certain families, exactly how is it decided which families he meets with? Wasn’t Barack Obama just in NYC a week again going fund raiser? Hmm, he could not find during his “serious” business to find time to go to Ground Zero and meet with any families then? I guess they were not a priority or a photo op then.

UPDATE I: As I was writing the above post I came across the following story at the “Lonely Conservative” that is 100% on point. KUDOS! Please take a trip over and read … “After Running Against Every Policy He Employed to Kill Bin Laden, Obama Will Go to Ground Zero to Declare Victory”.

If one thinks about it, why would George Bush agree to be with Obama at Ground Zero when Obama condemned Bush for how he pursued the war on terror? To this day Obama refuses to admit that it was “waterboarding” and the presence of GITMO that gave rise to gather the intelligence and begin the process of years to the killing of Osama Bin Laden.
