Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) Says The More the Merrier, A Whole New Cast of Republicans Should Run in 2012

The more the merrier, the GOP needs fresh faces, new ideas and individuals that have made a difference.

Republican US Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina says that  a whole new cast of Republican candidates should run for the GOP nod for President in 2012. The conservative Senator is correct. The gains made by the GOP in the 2010 midterm elections were not about the status quo, they were about   fresh change of ideas and return to common sense thinking and conservatism. The last thing that the GOP needs as a candidate in 2012 against Obama is a retread or party establishment candidate based on seniority.

Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina is not interested in running for the Republican presidential nomination, but he said Saturday that the presumed field might not be sufficient to inspire voters and he would welcome a last-minute entry by another candidate.

“If no one is an immediate front-runner,” Mr. DeMint said, “I think you might see a whole new cast of Republican candidates out within the next couple of months.”

Thus the reason why most polls that have been done that pit Obama against an unnamed GOP candidate for 2012 have been irrelevant. There are many GOP candidates that have made a difference on the state level to provide leadership and fiscal policies during these trying times. It is the reason why NJ Governor Chris Christie’s name keeps coming up.

There is going to be a real difference in 2012 as to the direction of the United States. The GOP and their candidate need to stand for something and have a prices message and policy to accomplish theirgoals. They cannot just be against Obama. although that will be a factor. DeMint has been spot on with his comments and who he has backed in previous campaigns. DeMint has been a thorn in the side of the GOP establishment and rightfully so. The GOP needs to see the change in the political environment in the US, just as the Democrats do. This is about “We the People”, not politics as usual.

“I’m not going to mention any more names,” Mr. DeMint said in an interview here. “But I think there are a lot of names out there bubbling around, particularly governors who have realized that doing basic common-sense things tend to inspire Americans today.”

Mr. DeMint, who established a strong following in the conservative movement during the midterm elections last year, delivered the keynote speech Saturday evening at the Conservative Principles Conference, which featured a handful of potential Republican presidential candidates.
