John Morton, Head of ICE Says He Will not Process Illegals Sent by AZ Immigration Law

The ICE-man cometh, or not in this case … Think the position by the Obama Administration is not completely political when it comes to illegals, think again?

Head of ICE refuses to do the job he was sworn to do. Since when are they allowed to pick and chose the laws they wish to enforce? It is his job to enforce the law, not to determine whether it is god or not.

John Morton, assistant secretary of homeland security for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, says he will not process illegals that are sent to him by the Arizona Immigration law. Obama and his minions have called the AZ immigration law misguided and condemned it. All this while a resounding numbers of Americans are in favor of the law.

A top Department of Homeland Security official reportedly said his agency will not necessarily process illegal immigrants referred to them by Arizona authorities.

John Morton, assistant secretary of homeland security for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, made the comment during a meeting on Wednesday with the editorial board of the Chicago Tribune, the newspaper reports.

“I don’t think the Arizona law, or laws like it, are the solution,” Morton told the newspaper.

Via the Gateway Pundit, Charles Krauthammer called the Obama Administration “lawless.”

However, as Jammie Wearing Fool points out in 2008 ICE removed 72,000 illegals from Arizona. So why the change of heart? It could not be political could it? Why has the “I will bring America together” Obama Administration all but declaring war on Arizona?

The Phoenix office of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency was expecting a record year of deportations in 2008, but the final numbers exceeded predictions.

A news release just put out by ICE states the agency removed 72,955 illegal immigrants in its fiscal 2008, which ended in September, compared to 44,376 removed the previous year.

Stepped-up efforts by ICE’s little-known Detention and Removal Operations division, combined with a program to deport illegal immigrants straight from the Maricopa County Jail made the new record possible, as reported in a New Times feature article last month. New police policies are likely to keep those numbers growing in coming months, as the article detailed.

UPDATE I: NRO has an interesting take as to why it is ok to spend millions on the US-Canadian border in Vermont and for some reason we can’t do the same on the southern border with Mexico where there is a real problem. Who knew those pesky Canadians were the real illegal immigration issue?
