Another Democrat Bites the Dust …

US Representative Vic Snyder of Little Rock, Arkansas is just the latest Democrat to get out of Dodge rather than face a most certain butt kicking in the 2010 midterm elections. Snyder will not be seeking reelection after serving 6 years as a US Rep citing family reasons.  Of course it could have nothing to do with the current anti-Dem mood in the country and the the fact that he trails Republican opponent Tim Griffin by 17 points.

Vic Snyder is the 11th House Democrat to announce his retirement so far. Depending on what happens with the special Senate election in Massachusetts next week, many more Democrats just might be scurrying for the exits.

U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder of Little Rock distributed an e-mail shortly after 4 p.m. Friday saying that he is not running for re-election this year. He cited family demands. His family grew to four children a year ago with the addition of triplets. His statement is on the jump.

Republicans were clearly overjoyed at the news, though generally restricted official statements to understanding comments about Snyder’s family. Democrats, too, treated the announcement as a surprise and an occasion for appreciation of Snyder. But if rumors are any indication, there’s a hungry group of Democratic politicos ready to pick up the fight.

As stated at the Politico, Vic Snyder represented a Little Rock-area district that leans Republican. My how the landscape has changed all due to a backlash against Barack Obama and his liberal, socialist policies. In 2008 Snyder faced no opposition for his seat, in 2010 he is behind by 17% and out of the race altogether. Add another one to the growing Democrat list of forced retirements.

John McCain carried the district with 54 percent of the vote in 2008, while former President George W. Bush won 51 percent in 2004.

Snyder didn’t face any Republican opposition in 2008, and  won at least 58 percent of the vote since he was first elected in 1996.
