Kentucky Senate 2010 Election: GOP Hopefuls Trey Grayson & Rand Paul Now Ahead of Both Democratic Rivals Mongiardo & Conway

My Old Kentucky Home … Republicans will hold on to this seat in the 2010 midterm elections.

The open Republican Senate seat in Kentucky for retiring Jim Bunning appears to look like it will remain in Elephant hands after the 2010 KY Senate race according to the most recent Rasmussen poll. Both Republican candidates, Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson and Rand Paul both have leads against their Democrat rivals Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo and state Attorney General Jack Conway.

The two top Republican hopefuls for the U.S. Senate in Kentucky have put a little more distance between themselves and their chief Democratic contenders in a new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state.

Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson and Rand Paul, an opthamologist and the son of Congressman Ron Paul, remain ahead of Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo. Now, however, the GOP hopefuls also are beating state Attorney General Jack Conway.

Both parties will pick their Senate nominees in primaries on May 18, 2010; however, it appears that Obamacare will be a strong issue during the general election. Only 34% of Kentucky voters favor Obamacare, while 62% oppose it. No Obama coattails in Kentucky, in fact Obama is a detriment.

With the health care issue alone, it is safe to say that the KY Senate seat will remain in Republican hands.  Also in other Rasmussen polling, Republican have opened up a 9% point lead in the Generic Congressional ballot.
