Senate Dem Asks SC Attorney General Henry McMaster to Stop Lawsuit Against Obamacare … “Call Off the Dogs”

Not only did Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson take a “cornhusker” kickback in exempting his state from provisions of Obamacare in order to buy his vote, Nelson is now reportedly calling the AG of South Carolina to “call off the dogs”. Exactly what business does a US Senator have telling a State official anything?

Hey Senator Ben Nelson, who let the Dogs Out!

In a phone call Thursday, Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., urged South Carolina Republican Attorney General Henry McMaster, the head of a group of 13 GOP state attorneys general who are threatening to file a lawsuit against the Senate health care bill, to reconsider, Politico reported.

A Democratic senator from Nebraska who played a crucial role in getting health care legislation passed in the Senate last month has asked South Carolina’s top attorney to “call off the dogs” – a reference to the state official’s threat to challenge the constitutionality of the bill.

Is Nelson worried that his sleazy, back room deal with Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid will all be for naught? What, the Corn Husker kickback may not be Constitutional? Say it isn’t so, REALLY! The attorneys general from multiple states are challenging the constitutionality of a Medicaid provision in the Obamacare bill stating that it benefits Nebraska at the expense of other states.

The attorneys general are challenging the constitutionality of a Medicaid provision in the bill that they say benefits Nebraska at the expense of other states.

The deal Nelson cut with Senate Democratic leaders to gain his critical vote would exempt Nebraska from having to pay for the coverage of new enrollees into its Medicaid program and leave the tab with the federal government — a move expected to cost Uncle Sam $100 million over the next 10 years.

But Nelson told McMaster that the deal wasn’t his idea and that the same Medicaid exemption would be offered to every state, according to the memo.

Um, if all states will be offered the same “Corn Husker” kickback Senator Nelson, why is the provision then even in the bill? I would dare say that the CBO would be interested in that little bit of info seeing that it would drastically change the cost of Obamacare. As it presently is stated, Obamacare passes on the cost to the states via Medicaid in order to shift costs from the federal bill.

However, Nelson’s claims that every state will be offered this provision is an out right lie. What would one expect from a desperate Senator who finds himself 31 points behind in his 2012 reelection.

The document goes on to say: “Senator Nelson said it would be ‘fixed’ by extending the Cornhusker Kickback (100% federal payment) on Medicaid to every state.”

Senate Democratic leaders have made no reference to a plan to expand the Nebraska deal to the remaining 49 states — a move that would be prohibitively expensive to the federal government and raise serious questions about whether health reform would lower the expected federal deficit, as President Barack Obama claims it would.
