Will It Be the Economy, Health care or the Apathetic Handling of the War on Terror & National Security that Brings Obama Down … The Denial of the War on Terror

President Barack Obama’s handling of health care, the economy, unemployment and jobs has been bad enough, but enter a new “monkey wrench” into the political mix … The One’s handling of the war on terror and national security.

The Christmas Day underwear terrorist bomber has opened America’s eyes to something that they have begun to take for granted … national security and another attack on US soil.

Obama cannot blame this one on George W. Bush for if he does so, he does at his own peril. For all of the things that Bush may have done incorrectly, the United States was never attacked again following September 11, 2001. Obama, Napolitano or his minions cannot spin the fact away that the only reason why nearly 300 people did not die on Christmas day was not that the system worked, but instead because of a faulty detonator. That is hardly a victory in the war on terror. Oh sorry, the overseas contingency operation.  However, what happens when it is not overseas?

Today, Charles Krauthammer wrote yet another scathing article regarding the overmatched secretary of homeland security Janet Napolitano. Her words that “the system worked like clockwork” will forever haunt her and rightfully so.  Is there no one in this administration that has experience and does not seem in over their head?

Janet Napolitano — former Arizona governor, now overmatched secretary of homeland security — will forever be remembered for having said of the attempt to bring down an airliner over Detroit: “The system worked.” The attacker’s concerned father had warned U.S. authorities about his son’s jihadist tendencies. The would-be bomber paid cash and checked no luggage on a transoceanic flight. He was nonetheless allowed to fly, and would have killed 288 people in the air alone, save for a faulty detonator and quick actions by a few passengers.

Her comments to so foolish, ill timed and ridiculous that not only Republicans have called for her resignation, but Democrats as well. The fact that Janet Napolitano has potential is irrelevant. Her job is not about her potential, its about what she can do now to protect America. Battling terrorism is not about on the job training.

New Jersey State Senate President Richard Codey, a Democrat, wrote a letter to Napolitano this week calling on her to step down. He said Napolitano, an attorney and former Arizona governor, does not have the experience for the post she is in.

“We should have someone who doesn’t need to go in there and learn about terrorism, learn about security,” Codey told Fox News. “How close were these 300 people on this plane from losing their lives because homeland security broke down? Boy, it was really close.”

But it is not just Napolitano who gets ripped a new one, her boss, the Chosen One Barack Obama gets an even greater criticism and rightfully so. Obama’s approach on terrorism has been frightening and weak.

The reason the country is uneasy about the Obama administration’s response to this attack is a distinct sense of not just incompetence but incomprehension. From the very beginning, President Obama has relentlessly tried to play down and deny the nature of the terrorist threat we continue to face. Napolitano renames terrorism “man-caused disasters.”

Obama goes abroad and pledges to cleanse America of its post-9/11 counterterrorist sins. Hence, Guantanamo will close, CIA interrogators will face a special prosecutor, and Khalid Sheik Mohammed will bask in a civilian trial in New York – a trifecta of political correctness and image management.

And just to make sure even the dimmest understand, Obama banishes the term “war on terror.” It’s over — that is, if it ever existed.

Krauthammer makes a damning comparison when he references Obama’s statement regarding the terrorist as a “suspect” who “allegedly tried to ignite an explosive device.” Suspect, allegedly? Obama is so consumed in protecting terrorist rights as if this was a crime being portrayed on the TV show ‘Law on Order’ than he is in calling it for what it really is. Wait until America adds this to the negatives of his Presidential approval rating. Americans have a funny way to reacting to a President who does not seem concerned about their safety.

More jarring still were Obama’s references to the terrorist as a “suspect” who “allegedly tried to ignite an explosive device.” You can hear the echo of FDR: “Yesterday, December 7, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — Japanese naval and air force suspects allegedly bombed Pearl Harbor.”

From changing the name of the war on terror, closing GITMO in thinking that this will stop recruiting efforts of al Qaeda, denying at all costs that Hasan was a terror act at Ft. Hood, trying enemy terrorist combatants in civilian criminal court and now treating the underwear bomber as a criminal instead of a terrorist. Americans can smell a weak and ineffective President a mile away. Just ask Jimmy Carter and look at Obama’s “Carteresque” mistakes.

In the end the question that voters will ask them self when they step into the booth in 2012 for the Presidential election is … economy, unemployment, higher taxes and record deficits aside, how does this President also keep me and my family safe?
