Polls Closed in New Jersey … Let the Counting Begin for Governors Race: Christie & Corzine

Posted in: Governor Races,Politics

The polls have closed in the Garden State … will it be incumbent Jon Corzine or will Republican challenger Chris Christie win New Jersey’s Governorship? The last Rasmussen poll prior to the election had Christie with a 3% point lead over Corzine, 46% – 43%.

Corzine – Christie

CNN is stating that 6 in 10 NJ voters said in exit polling that President Barack Obama had no effect on their vote in this off-year gubernatorial election. It’s nice of CNN to provide cover for The One. However, the fact of the matter is that anger and frustration with the economy, deficits, unemployment and Obamacare are fueling the 2009 off year election. No one can say that this is nor in part a result of Obama’s first year in office and his socialist agenda.

This could be some real bad news for Corzine and Obama who is not watching the election results tonight … according to NRO, there was higher turnout in Republican and swing districts than in Democrat ones. It would make sense that an enraged and motivated voter would turn out as a vote against Corzine rather than an apathetic one.

Exit poll: Economy concerns New Jersey voters most

Nearly a third of the voters heading to the polls in this off-year election pitting Democratic Gov. John Corzine against Republican Chris Christie, 31 percent, said the economy was the most important issue, while 26 percent said property taxes, 20 percent indicated corruption and 18 percent identified health care.

UPDATE I: With 29% of Precincts reporting, Christie 50% – Corzine 43%

Say what you will about the exit polling and that Obama was not a factor. How does a sitting President who won election one year ago by 15% points in NJ and campaigned numerous times for Corzine down the stretch have Corzine down or in any form of a close race?

UPDATE II: Independents could play huge role in NJ Governors Race

In New Jersey, Republican Chris Christie took 58 percent of the independent vote while incumbent Gov. Jon Corzine, a Democrat, got only 31 percent . Independent candidate Chris Daggett got just 9 percent of the independent vote. Independents made up 28 percent of the voters in New Jersey race.

Oh, but wait that’s right … team player Barack Obama is not watching the election results tonight.  Then again as Wizbang states, Obama claimed to not know anything about the tax day tea parties either. Nor did The One follow the ACORN scandal closely.

UPDATE III: FOX NEWS Calls NJ Governors Race for Republican Chris Christie!!!

We had said the other day that if Independent Daggett polled 6% to 7%, that Corzine would be in trouble. Turns out to be true. Daggett received 5% of the vote and Corzine is now out as NJ Governor.

CNN Projects Christie WINNER as well
