Obama nominees for Commerce Secretary … STRIKE TWO!

First New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson abruptly stepped down due to a federal grand jury investigating potential corruption between a California company and Richardson. Now comes Gregg’s withdrawal.

Judd Gregg has withdrawn as Obama’s nominee for Commerce Secretary. Call it “irresolvable conflicts,” New Hampshire Senator Judd Gregg has abruptly and surprisingly withdrawn as the Commerce Secretary shocking President Obama. Citing irresolvable conflict with the Obama stimulus plan and the Obama hijacking of the 2010 census as the reason. It is about time Republicans stood up for principles. Not only did Gregg stand his ground to the Obama White House, he also has never resigned from his senate seat. Gregg is still the US Senator from New Hampshire.

Saying, “I made a mistake,” Republican Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire abruptly withdrew as commerce secretary nominee on Thursday and drew a testy reaction from the White House, suddenly coping with the third Cabinet withdrawal of Barack Obama’s young presidency.

Gregg cited “irresolvable conflicts” with Obama’s handling of the economic stimulus and 2010 census in a statement released without warning by his Senate office.

As Michelle Malkin has stated, it is to be commended and about time a Republicans stood a stand on principle. The last straw was the complete and total lack of respect and embarrassment from the Obama camp in the 2010 census grab. It left Gregg with little choice but to say adios.

It was obvious to many that Obama’s choice of Gregg was nothing more than window dressing attempting to give the appearance that “The Chosen One” was bipartisan. Between a stimulus plan that no respecting Republican could support (only RINO’s) and the US Census power grab from the Commerce Secretary, it was more than Judd Gregg could stomach.

“However, it has become apparent during this process that this will not work for me as I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me. Prior to accepting this post, we had discussed these and other potential differences, but unfortunately we did not adequately focus on these concerns. We are functioning from a different set of views on many critical items of policy.

“Obviously the President requires a team that is fully supportive of all his initiatives.

“I greatly admire President Obama and know our country will benefit from his leadership, but at this time I must withdraw my name from consideration for this position.

White House sour grapes press statement where I guess one is not allowed to change their mind when all the rules change.

The White House — where some aides were caught off guard by the withdrawal — initially responded harshly to Gregg’s announcement, portraying the New Hampshire Republican as someone who sought the job and then had a “change of heart.”

In a statement, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Gregg had “reached out to the president and offered his name for secretary of commerce” — and that he’d promised that, “despite past disagreements about policies, he would support, embrace and move forward with the president’s agenda.”
