Larry Garrison, MSM & Others Just Don’t Get It … You Are Never Supposed to be Part of the Story, You Report the Story

WHEN ONE MAKES THEM SELF PART OF THE STORY, ONE MAKES THEM SELF PART OF THE PROBLEM.
For those who cover stories, aid in a story and try to provide help within a story there is one fact that should always remain constant during the story … “you are never supposed to become part of the story!!!”
I am reminded of this fact and its abuses recently during the Presidential elections and in the media’s coverage of the case of missing toddler Caylee Anthony. Two drastically different types of stories, yet those involved in coverage of elections and a missing 3 year old just could not help themselves from inserting themselves into the actual story line. Becoming part of a story can have a physical insertion trait or can mean influencing a story through bias to create or slant the story. For the MSM’s part during the election it was their obvious bias in reporting stories and in many cases either subjectively making up stories and in other cases not covering other stories so to protect one candidate over another, HERE, HERE and HERE.. The American people have come to realize that there is a bias in the media and that very bias has caused tradition media to plunge while readers and viewers to go else where for their news as they no longer trust traditional media.
Then there is the case of missing Orlando toddler Caylee Anthony where individuals have interjected themselves into the story for what appears to be nothing more than profit and PR. It was reported earlier this week that Anthony family spokes person Larry Garrison was fired by the family for secretly profiting from the disappearance of 3 year old Caylee. Larry Garrison had denied these allegations and has subsequently resigned from the case due to the erratic behavior over the last several months exhibited by the Anthony family. He also claims that the family is being manipulated. One really must wonder and question when a media type and spokesperson who is fired for allegedly profiting from the misfortune of a missing persons case when their mind set is that they find it most exciting to become part of the story.
Watch the following video … we inform and you decide.
“The most exciting part for me on this is that I have now become part of the story”
Well Larry Garrison after this week no longer has to concern himself with being part of the story of missing 3 year old Caylee Anthony in Orlando, FL or the family of Cindy, George, Lee or indicted tot mom Casey Anthony. As Donald Trump of past Apprentice fame has said, “You’re Fired”.
It is disturbing to witness that a person who espouses to be anti-spin and rails against the manipulating traditional media basically does the exact same thing and is a facilitators for that very same media. One would think that if some one had such issues with a bias and manipulating media that they would find another medium to provide information to the public rather than just being a middle man.
What is most baffling and disturbing about this is the alleged profiting and the fact that Garrison has wrote a book, The Newsbreaker, where the book reveals many untold details regarding these high profile cases. Garrison is supposed to be an anti-spin, anti-MSM individual. Yet, while spokesperson for the Anthony’s in the case of missing Caylee Anthony and her jailed and indicted mother Casey Anthony all we were provided was spin. Obvious facts like decomposition in the trunk, Casey Anthony never reporting that her daughter Caylee was missing and the all too numerous lies from Casey to police were spun in a fashion that would have made Aruba and their spokesperson Steve Cohen proud.
IFC Media Project with Gideon Yago is reportedly doing a documentary on Tuesday November 18, 2008 that has to do with reporting in the media and the truth behind the news. Of course its being produced by Meghan O’Hara (FAHRENHEIT 911 and SICKO) so it will have its own slant to it as well. How could it not? Because their was nothing slanted behind the Michael Moore movies Fahrenheit 911 or Sicko. No political liberal agenda whatsoever. It would appear that Larry Garrison is a part of the first episodes that discusses media truths and of all things the media’s fascination with missing white girls.
The obsession with young missing white girls by many news outlets. Snippets from a few sources are shown, including CNN’s Nancy Grace — when doesn’t her program feature a missing child? — and Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren.
Larry Garrison is introduced. He is a “news broker” who turns small-town tragedies into international stories. Most recently, Garrison was a spokesperson in the case of missing Florida toddler Caylee Anthony.
“The most exciting part for me is that I have now become part of the story,” he says, sounding disturbingly upbeat about the idea. “I love watching the news. I love being on the inside.”
Garrison, I feel the need to mention, is co-author of a book about the disappearance of teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba.
A question should be posed to IFC Media Project as to how can one report and claim in a book, The Newsbreaker, that there is a slant in the reporting of a story when it makes no difference what side of the story one is on, there is always a slant? As referenced above, “Larry Garrison is introduced. He is a “news broker” who turns small-town tragedies into international stories.” News broker?
For twenty-five years, Larry Garrison has been a news broker, operating within the secret side of the news, finding and releasing some of the most sensational stories of the last couple decades. Now, in this riveting account of the news behind the news, Garrison lets readers in on how such headlining stories are found, manipulated, and released to the public, blowing the whistle on the news media, and divulging what really happens when all of the major news agencies compete to report the same top stories.
Then there are those that interject themselves onto TV cable shows as expert pundits and then some how through money or influence suddenly become part of the never ending discussion and reporting of the case. The most recent example of this is Nancy Grace’s nightly reporting on missing Caylee Anthony with the same cast of characters. It is very important that these cases be provided exposure; however, all resources to one case by the MSM when there are so many to be covered provided a disservice and is nothing more than lazy journalism. To the others that would provide help to find the missing is commendable as long as it is done for the right reasons and without an agenda. I would offer these words of advice … you are there to help, your role is to be selfless toward the concerns of others, the focus is never to be on you but the cause and the second that you are a distraction you are doing no one or the cause any favors.
