Aruba Desperate to Bring in Tax Revenue at all cost … This time Road Tax
Posted in: Aruba,Government
Aruban citizens, pay your road taxes by March 30 or suffer the wrath of a 150 florin fine … so says the tax man. BBO, road tax, etc … help Aruba scrape together the nickels that they have lost from tourism. Maybe with this road tax they can either make the roads more safe in Aruba, post more speed limit signs, enforce speed limits or teach defensive driving. For an island so small they certainly have an abundant amount of driving fatalities.
Amigoe, March 1, 2007: Payment of road tax no later than March 30th
ORANJESTAD – For the second time this year, the Tax Department has extended the period to pay the road tax. This time around, technical problems due to a new automation system is the reason for this. The last day that the 2007 road tax can be paid is March 30th.
The Tax Department announced that due to technical problems, the communication between the main- and the sub-offices of Paradera and Santa Cruz is not optimum. The transaction takes too long and because of this, only 50 customers can be served. The system of the main office at the Paardenbaai does work properly and more payments can be done per day.
The Tax Department says that they are working very hard to solve the problem in the new system, but it takes time.
The police will start checking on April 1st, and everybody that have not paid their road tax on March 30th, will loose their license plates and will be fined for 150 florins.
The tax department also indicated that it is still not possible to pay the road tax via bank.
