Plane Crash Satire; What on Earth was NBC, The Emmy’s and Conan O’Brien thinking?

Posted in: Bizarre,Plane Crash,WTF

If one ever wanted to see just how out of touch Hollywood is from reality, one needed toEMMYS CONAN look no farther than last nights Emmys. NBC managed to do the unthinkable. On the same day that Comair Flight 5191 crashed and tragically killed all but 1 of 50 people aboard; NBC and Conan O’Brien decided that it was ok to do a parody of a plane crash during last nights Emmys. (See video) Could they have been any more clue-less, unsympathetic or disrespectful?

We get it that it was supposed to be a parody of “LOST”. However, there is a time and place to use some common sense and pull the skit. This was truly a stupid move on the part of NBC, the Emmys and Conan O’Brien. One would have thought someone might have stepped in and said … “this may not be in good taste.” Nope, that would have been asking too much.

What the hell are you people thinking? Don’t insult us by telling us it was pre-planned or pre-taped. The crash in Kentucky happened early Sunday morning giving NBC and their writers ample time to change the script. To make matters worse, no one bothered to tell the local NBC affiliate, WLEX in Kentucky that The Emmys would be performing this sick joke.

WLEX’s president and general manager, Tim Gilbert, who was home watching the telecast with his family, was “stunned” by the intro; if station managers had known about the intro before the broadcast, Lexington viewers wouldn’t have seen it, he said.

“It was a live telecast — we were completely helpless,” Gilbert said of the Emmys. “By the time we began to react, it was over. At the station, we were as horrified as they were at home.” Gilbert said he’ll complain to NBC, but he said an apology won’t make up for insensitivity.

Is this how little compassion that Hollywood has for others? Think they would have done the same thing if the plane crash and tragic death of so many had happened at LAX?

UPDATE II: Do you think NBC would have done this skit the day that Dick Ebersol’s plane crashed and his son Teddy died? Hardly.

UPDATE III: NBC Expresses Regret for Air-Crash Skit

NBC … This isn’t even close to an apology. Regret? How about the words we apologize for out insensitivity?

NBC expressed regret Monday for an Emmy Awards comedy skit that included a mock plane crash and aired on the network the evening of a fatal Kentucky jetliner accident.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the many families who lost loved ones in the plane crash in Kentucky on Sunday, and to the entire community that has suffered this terrible loss,” NBC said in a statement the day after the ceremony.

NBC makes the comment, “”In no way would we ever want to make light of this terrible tragedy.” To the NBC fools in the glass towers … YOU DID MAKE LIGHT OF IT.

If your hearts really went out to these families you would have pulled the skit and made an announcement stating why you did. That would require class though.
