With incumbent Republican US Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski conceding and the unknown Joe Miller winning the Republican US Senate Primary, the first Rasmussenpoll is out and it’s Miller Time, Joe Miller leads Democrat Scott Scott McAdamas50% to 44%. BTW, too all my fellow Conservative brethren, since when is polling 50% as a political unknown a bad thing?
In Rasmussen Reports’ first look at the U.S. Senate race in Alaska, Republican newcomer Joe Miller holds a six-point lead over Sitka Mayor Scott McAdams.
The latest statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters shows Miller attracting 50% of the vote, while McAdams earns support from 44%. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate and two percent (2%) are undecided.
Most people are saying to themselves in the 49th state, Joe Who? Rest assured, now that Joe Miller has the backing of the RNSC he will be getting plenty of exposure so that all in Alaska will soon come to know who Joe Miller is. However, many, even on the right are expressing panic and fear at the latest Rasmussen poll numbers. How many candidates who are political unknowns get 50% out of the gate? Also, once the Republican would have been healed, does anyone really think that Alaska Republicans or far minded independents would vote for a Democrat when 46% of Alaska voters approve of the job President Obama is doing, while 54% disapprove?
I happen to follow the thought process at Red Dog Report that tends to believe that because Joe Miller is an unknown there is a great potential upside. Let’s face it, after a tough Republican primary there are many disgruntled Murkowski voters. These folks are going to have to get over the fact that no one political family owns the rights to be a Senator of a state. What is good for Massachusetts is good for Alaska as well. The Democrat appears to have a large lead in voters not affiliated with a political party.
McAdamsholds a 22-point lead among voters not affiliated with either major political party.
That being said, Joe Miller has gone from an unknown candidate to the front runner of the Alaska Senate race. Miller gained 50% of the poll vote which is more than many incumbent Democrats Like Barbra Boxer (CA) and Russ Feingold (CA). The LEFT some how thinks there is a story of a possible Democrat pick up here when there is none. Let the LEFT dream that little dream and pump money into a campaign where they have no chance of winning. How desperate has the LEFT become heading into the 2010 midterm elections? They think that a GOP candidate polling 50% is an opportunity for them. The LEFT is in for a long election eve night, get the tissues ready.
The LEFT is not focused of Joe Miller, they are are focused on a Sarah Palin backed Joe Miller candidate. However, Conservatives 4 Palin states it best when it comes to dubious polling against Palin.
The Daily Kos pollster, Public Policy Polling (D), just released a poll about Governor Palin’s standing in Alaska. I’ll ask the same question that I asked the other day: why would anyone take this pollster seriously considering that it was hilariously wrong about the Senate primary?
What PPP(D) won’t tell you is that it had previously effectively labeled Murkowskia lock because she was allegedly just as popular with Republicans as Palin. Here is what PPP(D) wrote several months ago when it conducted its last Alaska poll:
Sarah Palinis obviously a popular and influential person in Alaska. How else could a candidate from no where with no Republican National support get elected? Palin was a game changer.
That being said, if Lisa Murkowski could ever get off her high horse of political privilege and endorse the US Senate Republican primary winner … it will be as Red Dog Report states, MILLER TIME.
