New Hampshire Independents Run From Barack Obama … Live Free or Die

It’s not nice to fool with New Hampshire Independents …

New Hampshire, the Granite State, the First Primary state … there is a reason why they call it the “Live Free or Die” state. The people of New Hampshire have always embraced their independence and the Independent voters of NH dictate who will win and will lose an election.

Where have all the Independents Gone?

For Barack Obama it would appear that just as in numerous states across America in polling data, New Hampshire Independents are running away from Obama as well. Even with his recent Town Hall meeting in Nashua, NH a recent WMUR Granite State Poll by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center. Barack Obama’s job approval rating in New Hampshire has steadily
dropped since his inauguration; however,  in the most recent Granite State Poll, only 48% approve of the job Obama is doing as president, 47% disapprove, and 5% are neutral.

Obama’s approval ratings have dropped primarily among political independents. Currently, 39% of independents in New Hampshire say they approve of the job Obama is doing as President, a 26% percentage point drop since October 2009. Support among self identified Democrats also dropped from 91% in October to 84%. Republicans in New Hampshire have disapproved of the job Obama is doing as president since early in his tenure.

In the 2008 Presidential election Obama won Independents 54% to 45% over Republican challenger John McCain. A 15% point swing from the election. In NH, it’s about the jobs stupid!!!The longer that Obama is in office, the voters hold jom accountable and the GWB blame game no longer works. This hardly looks good for Obama’s reelection bib in 2012; however, the upcoming 2010 midterms look to be a referendum on Obama in NH as well.  How will this affect the US Senate race in NH, House and statewide races?

The main sticking point for Obama is the economy; the longer he’s in office the more respondents hold him accountable for high unemployment and other sour economic news
