London Bombings

There was a series of Bombings in London this morning. Keep the people of London in your prayers.

LONDON – Three explosions rocked the London subway and one tore open a packed double-decker bus during the morning rush hour Thursday. The blasts killed at least two people and injured about 190 in what a shaken Prime Minister Tony Blair called a series of “barbaric” terrorist attacks.

A senior police official said traces of explosives were found at two explosion sites.

Blair said it was clear the attacks were designed to coincide with the opening of the G-8 summit in Gleneagles, Scotland. The meeting of world leaders would continue but he would return to London, Blair said.

 ”They will never succeed in destroying what we hold dear in this country and in other civilized nations throughout the world,” said Blair, flanked by fellow G-8 leaders, including President Bush. “We shall prevail and they shall not.”

President Bush later warned Americans to be “extra vigilant” as they head to work after the deadly explosions in London.

Two people have been killed and scores have been injured after three blasts on the Underground network and another on a double-decker bus in London.

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair said it was “reasonably clear” there had been a series of terrorist attacks.

He said it was “particularly barbaric” that it was timed to coincide with the G8 summit. He is returning to London.

An Islamist website has posted a statement – purportedly from al-Qaeda – claiming it was behind the attacks.

Home Secretary Charles Clarke said blasts occurred between Aldgate East and Liverpool Street tube stations; between Russell Square and King’s Cross tube stations; at Edgware Road tube station; and on bus at Tavistock Square.

The Queen said she was “deeply shocked” by the terrorist attacks and sent her sympathy to those affected.

London’s police chief Sir Ian Blair said there had been “many casualties” but it was too early to put a figure to those killed or injured.

Washington Post talk to the threat in America:

The Homeland Security Department asked authorities in major cities Thursday for heightened vigilance of transportation systems after a series of explosions on London transit systems.

Department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse said, however, that there were no immediate plans to raise the nation’s threat level.

“We do not have any intelligence indicating this type of attack is planned in the United States,” Roehrkasse said.

The Homeland Security Department asked authorities in major cities for “continued vigilance” of their transportation systems, Roehrkasse said.
