      This is the act of a very mentally disturbed teen.
      The teen was looking for a way to make themselves important to their classmates and others.

      Of course, with a skewed mental state, it could have been money he had saved for some purpose. Stealing the money was ok in the teens mind because of the perceived good to others by giving it away.
