If You Missed It … Washington Post Calls for the IRS to be Investigated Over Targeting Conservative Tea Party & Patriot Groups

In case you missed it on Friday and over the weekend, one of the most incredible things occurred … The liberal leaning Washington Post called for the investigation of the IRS and their current scandal of purposely and willfully targeting Conservative Tea Party organizations. In a scathing editorial, The Washington Post blasted the IRS – Playing politics with tax records. Make no mistake about it, the WAPO is calling for an investigation and our government is probably no longer worth any of our trust. It appears that the WAPO thinks that what the IRS did was a tad-bit “Nixonian”.

To “We the People” … This used to be America? It Ain’t no more …

Officer Does Not Like anti-Obama Poster: “It ain’t [America] no more, OK?”

A BEDROCK principle of U.S. democracy is that the coercive powers of government are never used for partisan purpose. The law is blind to political viewpoint, and so are its enforcers, most especially the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service. Any violation of this principle threatens the trust and the voluntary cooperation of citizens upon which this democracy depends.

So it was appalling to learn Friday that the IRS had improperly targeted conservative groups for scrutiny. It was almost as disturbing that President Obama and Treasury Secretary Jack Lew have not personally apologized to the American people and promised a full investigation.

“Mistakes were made,” the agency said in a statement. IRS official Lois Lerner explained that staffers used a “shortcut” to sort through a large number of applications from groups seeking tax-exempt status, highlighting organizations with “tea party” or “patriot” in their names. The IRS insisted emphatically that partisanship had nothing to do with it. However, it seems that groups with “progressive” in their titles did not receive the same scrutiny.

If it was not partisanship, was it incompetence? Stupidity, on a breathtaking scale? At this point, the IRS has lost any standing to determine and report on what exactly happened. Certainly Congress will investigate, as House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) promised. Mr. Obama also should guarantee an unimpeachably independent inquiry.

UPDATE I: Now we learn that it is even worse than first thought … Non-Profit Groups that Criticized the Obama Government and Sought to Educate Americans.

IRS scrutiny went beyond Tea Party, targeting of conservative groups broader than thought
      Published May 13, 2013

The internal IG timeline shows a unit in the agency was looking at Tea Party and “patriot” groups dating back to early 2010. But it shows that list of criteria drastically expanding by the time a June 2011 briefing was held. It then included groups focused on government spending, government debt, taxes, and education on ways to “make America a better place to live.” It even flagged groups whose file included criticism of “how the country is being run.”

By early 2012, the criteria were updated to include organizations involved in “limiting/expanding government,” education on the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and social economic reform

FLASHBACK: Doug Shulman in March 2012: ‘There is absolutely no targeting’
      May 13, 2013 12:23 pm

Then-Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service Doug Shulman asserted in March 2012 that there was “absolutely no targeting” by the IRS of tax-exempt conservative organizations while testifying before the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight.

The IRS apologized Friday for what it called “inappropriate” targeting of conservative political groups with “Tea Party” or “Patriot” in their name during the 2012 election to allegedly see if they were violating tax-exempt status, but a Wall Street Journal article Monday reported it purposely scrutinized ones worried about government spending, debt or taxes, and those that lobbied to “make America a better place to live,” according to new details of a government probe.

The report also stated the investigation revealed that a high-ranking IRS official knew as early as mid-2011 that conservative groups were being inappropriately targeted—nearly a year before Shulman told a congressional committee the agency was doing no such thing: ….

A friend made an astute observation:

This IRS vendetta may well not be partisian
in that the GOP too, wants the “tea party” Patriots disabled to forward their own agendas, i.e. illegal amnesty, wage supression, a Canadian/American/ Mexican trading block(see Euro Project)

As always, watch (And APPLY) Europe as the EU Project continues in its march to forcibly, using financial destruction to Federalize it’s member countries. Populations are revolting, see France, Spain, Portugal

Could it be the recent revelation encompassing the IRS issue is all an administrative attempt to distract from the Benghazi cover up and the proposed amnesty of over 11 million Illegal immigrants?

In other words … liberal/progressive politicians and the liberal media have jumped on the bandwagon of Conservative outrage … liberal/progressive politicians and the liberal media that are one with Obama.

Think about it. The targeting of Conservative organizations by the IRS was known by the administration since 2011. The timing of exposure is suspicious. (See #4 comment)

BARACK OBAMA – “I JUST LEARNED ON FRIDAY”

Obama: IRS Targeting Conservative Groups Is “Outrageous” And “I Will Not Tolerate It”
      May 13, 2013

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, let me take the IRS situation first. I first learned about it from the same news reports that I think most people learned about this. I think it was on Friday. And this is pretty straightforward.

      JAY CARNEY – DAMAGE CONTROL?

Carney: White House counsel told of IRS review
      May 13, 2013

White House spokesman Jay Carney says the IRS inspector general notified the White House counsel’s office during the week of April 22 that it was completing a review of the IRS office in Cincinnati that targeted conservative political groups for special examination. Carney says the counsel’s office was not given details about the review.

Carney said President Barack Obama was not told about the review, and he reiterated Obama’s assertion Monday that he did not learn such groups had been targeted until news reports broke Friday.

      @ Tamikosmom

Your beliefs regarding the combined Republican and Democratic outrage including the timing of the information’s exposure I feel belies a much larger, more ominious, political agenda than mere distraction.

That is to instill fear in ALL the American people using a relatively small group, the American Tea Party, as test.

Fear which muzzles ……so possibly the timing to Benghazi

A not so subtle “reminder” of the “big stick” potential of government, which neither party is loath to use.

As the destruction of small Cyprus was used by the EU politicians to test a new templete of “theft” banking:

….. It’s now generally understood that the EU’s political elite’s financial destruction of Cyprus was a test of an untried templete, of “bail-ins,” a plan whose purpose is to save failing banks with the everday depositor’s (now defined as creditors), confiscated money.

And do you believe Chancellor Angie Merkles’ friend Obama did not attach his seal of approval to this destruction, this test, as the US news, including Fox has said little to nothing.

Unlike Conalrad – no longer a test, but a template, for here
