An Inconvenient Truth: Dutch filmmaker Paul Ruven Making Movie about Joran Van der Sloot and Death & Disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba

An ‘”Inconvenient Truth” for Dutch filmmaker Paul Ruven … Joran Van der Sloot killed again!

Let the filmmaker make the movie and bring attention to the Natalee Holloway case again. It will also bring about a backlash against Aruba and himself if he blames the victim and provides cover for what obviously took place.

An “Inconvenient Truth” for all who blamed the victim Natalee Holloway, Joran Van der Sloot killed Again

Natalee Holloway has been missing since May 2005 in Aruba when she disappeared without a trace after leaving Carlos N’ Charlies with Joran Van der Sloot, Deepak and Satish Kalpoe. The disappearance and death of the 18 year old Mountainbrook, AL teen has been attributed to Van der Sloot and the Kalpoe’s by all rational people. Unfortunately, the Aruba police and powers that be managed to cover up the crime from the outset through cronyism and corruption to save their precious tourism.

Now, comes Dutch filmmaker Paul Ruven who claims he is making a film about the Natalee Holloway case as he searches for the truth. Really? The film claims to hold no punches on any of the individuals involved including Joran Van der Sloot, Aruban police, government or the victims family. One does have to question why any one would take the approach of smearing the Holloway family as a way of so-called finding the truth as to what happened.

A Dutch film director is making a film about Joran van der Sloot, the Dutch national who was recently arrested and charged with the murder of a young woman in Peru. Mr Van der Sloot was also the prime suspect in the case of US teenager Natalee Holloway who disappeared while on holiday on the Caribbean island of Aruba in 2005. The film which is due out next year suggests the Holloway case stinks.

According to the film’s director Paul Ruven, we still don’t know what happened to Ms Holloway because all the parties concerned are putting their own interests first. The film asks why her body still hasn’t been found and why Van der Sloothasnever been convicted of any crime. It doesn’t deal with the murder of the 21-year-old Stephany Flores in Peru on 31 May this year. Van der Sloot is currently in custody in Lima awaiting trial over her murder.

Ruven claims to pull no punches and searches for the truth … yet has no issue in blaming the victim for her own demise. NICE. I guess it was quite inconvenient for Ruven what while blaming Natalee Holloway in her own death and disappearance in Aruba by making such allegations that she was on cocaine and chasing boys that Joran Van der sloot killed again in Peru. Hmm? Such a revelation kind of puts a crimp in the narrative of the missing Natalee Holloway now doesn’t it sir? Who would have thought while you were making one film that one of your main characters would kill again in Peru? Joran Van der Sloot has been charged in the death of Stephany Flores in Peru in which many of the events seem hauntingly similar to the death of Natalee Holloway five years to the day.

The film, Me & Mr Jones, doesn’t paint a sympathetic picture of any of the characters. For example, Joran van der Sloot, is portrayed as a rich white youth with influential parents, who flouts the law. At the time of Natalee Holloway’s disappearance, he was receiving treatment for psychological problems. He is also reported to have been involved in two cases of indecent assault.

“The film pulls no punches in showing that Joran lied. That’s why the main character, the investigative journalist, breaks the law to get at the truth. He, just like Joran, doesn’t abide by the law.”

Mr Ruven doesn’t spare the character of Natalee Holloway either. He says the image of her as some kind of holy virgin, an innocent girl, is just the way her mother wants her portrayed.

“The truth is that Natalee had a nose full of cocaine that night, was blind drunk and had been chasing blokes for days.”

And he knows this how? Let’s just say all this is true, which it is not, how does that exonerate Joran Van der Slootfrom kidnapping, obstruction of justice, rape and murder? The answer is, it does not. The truth of the matter is  … IF NATALEE HOLLOWAY WAS HIGH ON COCAINE AS RUVEN SLANDERS, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE EASIEST OPEN AND SHUT CASE IN THE HISTORY OF MAN KIND. If it was as Ruven slanders, Natalee’s body would simply have been found on the beach and it would have been determined that she died of a drug and alcohol overdoes … end of story. No one would have gone to jail, if the events played out like that.

However, that is not the case and every rational thinking person knows that. Except the hateful people who for some reason have a vested interest in harming the family, blaming Natalee Holloway and having an issue that Natalee might have actually been a nice girl. Why does that rub so many people the wrong way? Wow, she might actually have been a good girl that had some drinks on an island that claimed to be safe. Why are there some that are so hateful against a family that lost a daughter before she ever had a chance to live? The following hateful and irational comments can be made by any keyboard coward without a conscience.

Miranda and Jeff from Amsterdam weigh in with a lengthy denunciation of the entire Holloway family linking extensively to a documentary Natalee Holloway ”The Unrevealed Timelines” and ending with this plea: “We believe in karma Mr. Ruven , so please go ahead and give us the real Natalee Holloway and not the BS her mother tried to feed us, it will benefit you and your movie. Thank you for reading this email.”

The simple question is as follows … why would Joran Van der Sloot with the aide of his father and other cronies felt the need to get rid of Natalee’s body? If it was an accidental drug overdoes from Dutch filmmaker Paul Ruven’s slanderous comments, they answer is that they would not have had to. If there was consensual sex, the answer is that they would not have had to. However, if the answer is that Natalee Holloway was purposely drugged with a date rape drug, forceable raped and killed … then, they would have had to get rid of the body.

It’s easy to use common sense when looking at a crime objectively. However, when one has an agenda, that is quite a different story now isn’t it?

This is pure Dutch crap. It makes the Dutch and the Arubans look like fools in the eyes of the world.
Just another effort for a film maker to make some bucks from a case that should have been solved within 24 hours except the Aruban LE decided to protect the son of an “important official” and cover it up.
Now, Joran has killed again. I hope the justice system in Peru is able to help the Holloways get some answers.

Explosive quotes from van der Sloot / Holloway movie maker

      Last Update: 12:03 pm

Birmingham, Al (WIAT) A Dutch article about a movie on the Holloway case has provoked bitter online commentary.

Things have been quiet on the Joran van der Sloot front lately.

There’s been next to no news out of Peru as the murder inquiry grinds through a legal system with no guarantee of a speedy trial.

Van der Sloot remains in the Castro Castro prison charged with murdering 21 year old student Stephany Flores in a case with spooky parallels to the disappearance of Mountain Brook teen Natalee Holloway on a graduation trip to Aruba.

Holloway, last seen with van der Sloot and the Kalpoe brothers, vanished five years to the day Flores’ body was found in van der Sloot’s Lima hotel room.

But while van der Sloot’s charges of legal misrepresentation and a coerced confession fade from the headlines, a firestorm of online commentary has broken out over a movie being produced by Dutch filmmaker Paul Ruven.

In another strange coincidence, Ruven was on Aruba making a fictionalized film about van der Sloot and the Holloway case when the news of Flores death broke.

After a several days flurry of stories about Ruven and his film “Me and Mr. Jones” things got quiet again until Myrtille van Bommel’s article quoting Ruven about his project. Although Ruven has been accused of being part of a whitewash on Aruban handling of the Natalee investigation, the picture painted in van Bommel’s article is very different.

In the article on the Radio Netherlands Worldwide site, Ruven appears to take on all parties in the case. Regarding van der Sloot, he’s quoted as saying “”The film pulls no punches in showing that Joran lied. That’s why the main character, the investigative journalist, breaks the law to get at the truth. He, just like Joran, doesn’t abide by the law.”

But Natalee and the Holloway family are blasted as well. He says the image of her as some kind of holy virgin, an innocent girl, is just the way her mother wants her portrayed.

And although there have been allegations Ruven is part of a cover up/whitewash attempt to improve the image of tourist dependent Aruba, the island takes some hits in the article as well. Everybody on the island knows each other. When there are elections, the candidates are often sponsored by US hotel owners. The winning candidate appoints his entire family and distant friends to important governmental positions. These people hang on to the posts for the rest of their lives.”
The article goes on to say that “It’s this colonial background of favourism and conflict of interests that allows a young rich Dutchman to do what he likes without being brought to justice. Mr Ruven believes nobody on Aruba wants the truth to come out. It was also never the intention that Joran should end up in prison. That would damage tourism and the economy.”
Sounds like he’s out to offend all involved…..but that’s nothing compared to the online comments van Bommel’s article has spawned.

Here’s a quick sample…and remember, anyone with a keyboard can say pretty much anything on line so supply your own perspective and skepticism:

Miranda and Jeff from Amsterdam weigh in with a lengthy denunciation of the entire Holloway family linking extensively to a documentary Natalee Holloway ”The Unrevealed Timelines” and ending with this plea: “We believe in karma Mr. Ruven , so please go ahead and give us the real Natalee Holloway and not the BS her mother tried to feed us, it will benefit you and your movie. Thank you for reading this email.”
Whereupon the firefight ensues. Marie chimes in with “I see the Van der Sloots have marshaled their family members to join in on the discussion!” Only to be gently rebuked by Bippity for giving Miranda and Jeff to much credit.

Bippity goes on to say “Mr. Ruven believed the lies about Natalee — that’s his bad. He should have demanded proof or at least questioned how something like that could be covered up for five years. But despite having ridiculous “sources” of info, shown by his false portrayal of Natalee, he still concluded Joran is guilty and Aruban authorities covered it up; just as they always had; because he was rich, white and Dutch.”

There’s lots more on the RNW website.

    4. Carpe on August 7th, 2010 7:07 pm

Ruven is just one more corrupted pud in a long line of corrupted Dutch/Aruban puds.

The attempts to attack Natalee and family will work as well as the previous 5 years worth of futile attacks. They will flop and be laughed off.

What kind of thrill does one get from attacking the victim of a brutal heartless killer? What kind of thrill can a person get from attempting to sully the reputation of a dead person?

Answer: Someone with one foot already firmly planted in the grave. Personally, I think it
is a coward’s cry for help. I’d be more than
happy to help him get that other foot tucked
      in!

Ruven’s film was still in process when the Flores murder occurred. I will assume that put a bit of a damper on his original ending of what ever fictionalized truth he was trying to convey to the world! Reality Bites and so does Karma!

The stupidity of some of these Dutch people just asstonishes me! Isn’t bad enough that a young girl full of life and promise has been ripped away from her family, her country and her very last breath! NOOOO some idiot has to go out there and tarnish her name, her memory and for what?? To make a buck?? Where do these people come from and why don’t they go away???

Dear Lord please hear my prayer ~ Please bring us the truth about what happened to Natalee. Please bring the justice the Holloway family has so long suffered for. Please bring the truth to light for all the world to see. Amen

I know I sound like a nut case becaue one day I’m cursing and one day I’m praying. There have been so many things wrong with this whole situation it just rips me in two!

I know exactly what you mean by cursing and praying under the same breath…lol. The Dutch aren’t the only people we can point fingers at though, not when it comes to folks bad mouthing Natalee and Beth. You should have been around on the Yahoo message boards a few years back before it was shut down. There were plenty of STUPID Americans online (I’m sure they are still around today) making all kinds of ugly remarks about Natalee and Beth, blaming them instead of putting the blame where it belonged…on the van der Sluts, Kalpoes, and the Aruban/Dutch authorities.

Ruven concludes Joran is a liar? Oh, really? How can this man and his ridiculous film be taken seriously?

It won’t. Like Joran, he mixes part of the truth with lies. The Holloways have long been true figures of grace and dignity while poor Nat’s character has attempted to be smeared. It’s a load of BS. No one is saying Natalee wasn’t partying at her Graduation trip,,,but that does not make any of the ugly rumors about her factual.

We all know what happened on that stinking, corrupt Island. Joran Van der Sloot is a DEAD MAN WALKING.

klaasend – I agree, but that was not my intent. I was only trying to point out some of the hateful, evil, unreliable, twisted BS flying around out there that some try to state to be factual, when actually it’s all a pack of bald face lies. If anyone believes the garbage Miranda and Jeff spewed on the rnw website is credible, they have some serious mental issues to deal with.

I have not ever attempted to do a “disservice” to Natalee and her family and never would.

Okay, klaasend, thanks for clearing that up :-)

It’s still hard for me to believe after all this time that there are people out there who IGNORANTLY continue to blame Natalee and Beth, especially considering the recent chain of events out of Peru and Thailand. I don’t know what it is going to take to wake these hateful people up. It still makes me absolutely furious to read the hateful, ugly things some people say about Natalee and Beth! If the folks here want to know what kind of terrible, outrageous crap Miranda and Jeff said, all they’ve gotta do is click the link ;-)

OMG Susan I just read that post and I am totally in awe!!!! How can anyone say something like that with a clear conscience and sleep at night??? These people are demons, they have no soul, no manners, no clue. What a shameful, shameful thing to say. It just breaks my heart that people like that live on this planet!

I am so upset by their ignorance it brings me to tears! How totally AWEFUL!!!

    15. redpetals12 on August 8th, 2010 11:57 pm

Joran is a brutal murderer. Who is going to believe Natalee was high on anything? there was no autopsy and this can’t be proven. Poor Stephany was beated and strangled, one can only imagine what happened to Natalee. I’ve followed this for 5 years with great sadness. At first it was in awe, because we have ALL been those young girls on our first Island trip, drinking, and “chasing blokes for days”…I don’t think a ONE deserves Natalee’s fate. After all this time, I think Aruba is the worst country on earth! and furthermore, the pure idiots who disregard Natalee’s memory and her family should be ashamed. I’m sure if it was your daughter or sister you would feel differently. I hope Joran gets EVERYTHING he deserves…although I doubt it…I hope and pray those in the world slandering Natalee and her parents never experience the Horror of this. I will never watch this film or put one dollar in the film makers pocket, same as I will chose other islands to visit.

      Justice of Natalee!

      Justice for Natalee & Stephany!

    17. Lisa in Maryland on August 9th, 2010 11:31 am

So I was thinking last night about all of these people who have made money off of Natalee’s disappearance and Ruven’s film and it came to me that he was probably paying Arubans to play parts and extras in the film and paying the Aruban government to film on the island – another awful shame.

Can the Holloway family sue for any of this?

Just like Klassend mentioned before… garbage like this only serves to make others believe it is credible.

Even if the film is fiction if they portray Natalee (who is not a fictional character) in a bad way can they bring a suit of liable, slander, misrepresentation or defamation of character?

It would be nice if they could put the Kabash on this film or at least hang it up in the court system for so that he loses money!

    18. Lisa in Maryland on August 9th, 2010 11:59 am

Is there anything we can do like asking our government to request the film not be released and if so how do we go about doing that??? Do we write to the American / Dutch Embassy in Washington?

    19. Susan on August 10th, 2010 4:14 am

Damn, I should have asked that FBI agent I spoke with yesterday afternoon out of Birmingham!! Geez, where was my brain???

Tangled web of the van der Sloot/Holloway movie

      Last Update: 12:34 am

Birmingham, Al (WIAT) There’s a tangled web of internet speculation surrounding the as yet unreleased move “Me and Mr. Jones” by Dutch filmmaker Paul Ruven. What, if any, are Ruven’s connections to Renee Gielen, a film maker from Curacao? Why should anyone in Alabama care about a Dutch film maker and a producer from Curacao?

Ruven is making a fiction movie about a reporter investigating Joran van der Sloot and his assumed role in the Natalee Holloway disappearance in Aruba five years ago. The Mountain Brook teen disappeared on a graduation trip to the island…she was reportedly last seen in the company of van der Sloot.

The case was an international sensation and has stayed in or near the headlines ever since. The treatment by the news media has been calm compared to the five years of furor and fury online.

On one side….defenders of Joran van der Sloot and the Aruban authorities who consider him a prime suspect in Natalee’s disappearance but have never charged him. That defense consists mainly of character attacks on Natalee and her mother Beth Holloway Twitty.

Prominent among those pressing that case is Renee Gielen, a film maker from Curacao who produced a 2008 documentary entitled “Natalee, The Unrevealed Time Lines”….a title that morphs on screen to “Natalee, The Unrevealed Time Lies.” The film was widely attacked on line as a cover up and vicious attack on Natalee and her family. Others saw it as a defense of both the van der Sloot family and Aruban authorities.

But isn’t that ancient history….hashed out on blogs and websites for years?

The story exploded back into prominence when Joran van der Sloot was charged with the murder of Stephany Flores…a 21 year old student found dead in van der Sloot’s Lima, Peru hotel room…five years to the day of Natelee’s disappearance.

And all the arguments are back again…this time charging various connections between Gielen and Ruven. A central figure in those arguments is cinematographer Dolph van Stapele, reportedly Ruven’s director of cinematography on Me and Mr. Jones and who had the same role in Gielen’s documentary…routinely referred to as a “crockumentary” by Holloway family advocates online.

There’s also a common thread that von Stapele is Gielen’s son.

Here’s a sampling of some of the online comments:

From a site called Refugees Unleashed:

Imladris wrote: There are gazillions of good cameramen, so why would you choose someone thas was affiliated with a shabby work like Renee’s piece?

Nomdeguerre replied: Maybe because you use whoever you can get and Van Stapele or whatever his name is was on Aruba or available to go? If he worked on Renee Gielen’s film, he would be familiar with Aruba, which doesn’t hurt when you’re filming (the light, the weather, etc.). I didn’t not see Renee Gielen’s documentary and so cannot comment on what’s in it, but I see nothing suspicious about the fact that the same cameraman might have worked on both.

Here’s another exchange between Imladris and another poster, Black-Tulip:

Black-Tulip: All I said was it looked like Stapele was involved in Gielen’s alleged documentary. I don’t know if he is her son, and I don’t know if he is also working on Ruven’s film. If he worked on Gielen’s piece of crap and he also is working on Ruven’s film, then like I said, I would consider that highly suspicious and it would make me inclined to dismiss the film as bs.

Imladris replied: All I said was it looked like Stapele was involved in Gielen’s alleged documentary. I don’t know if he is her son, and I don’t know if he is also working on Ruven’s film. If he worked on Gielen’s piece of crap and he also is working on Ruven’s film, then like I said, I would consider that highly suspicious and it would make me inclined to dismiss the film as bs.

And here’s a comment posted to “Explosive quotes from van der Sloot / Holloway movie maker” here on CBS42.com:

In the ditch – 8/7/2010 12:48 PM: he title of the original RNW article implies Ruven’s film “searches for the truth” about Natalee Holloway’s disappearance. What is not immediately obvious in the article is that Ruven was involved in another “trash and bash documentary” about Natalee Holloway produced by Renee Gielen. As taken from the posts: I think it goes like this….. Paul Ruven, the director of the new movie, was also the director of Renee Gielen’s documentary. Dolph van Stapele, the director of photography and cinematographer, is Renee Gielen’s son. Renee Gielen is Anita Van der Sloot’s cousin. etc, etc, etc. So much for objectivity. Unfortunately (for Ruven), Joran went to Peru in the middle of the filming and put a serious kink in their story line. I know that people eat up sensationalistic films, but my gut feeling is to boycott this film.

So….what’s the relationship between Renee Gielen, Dolph van Stapele and Paul Ruven? How much, if any, of this speculation and online chatter is true?

CBS42.com has requested an interview with Ruven to clear all this up. He e-mailed us saying he’d get back to us. We’re still waiting. We’ve also attempted to reach Gielen. We’ll keep you posted.

Aruba stinks of moral coruption and filth. This island should be black balled by every human being on earth. Their justice system is corrupt along with their police. As for Urin van der Puke I will bet he is having a great time in Castro Castro Prison. I just hope he gets put out into the general population. There he will make lots of really great friends.
I have lived in Peru for several years. You can get or buy anything for a few dollars. I know this for a fact. A person could pay someone in the prison a small amount of money and Joran would be dead meat. I am going to Vegas to see if they are giving odds on how long he will last. Chau for now Joran
