Natalee Holloway, Missing in Aruba 5 Years Later … Beth Holloway Fights on for Missing Persons

Five Year ago …

Natalee Holloway went missing on May 30, 2005 when she was last seen leaving Carlos n’ Charlies on Aruba with Joran Van der Sloot, Deepak Kalpoe and Sataish Kalpoe. Our first post covering the disappearance of the Mountain Brook, Alabama high school graduate Natalee Holloway was entitled, “This Can’t be Good for Tourism, Where is Natalee Holloway?”   No truer words were ever spoken and the affects of a crime like the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in turn created what can only be one of  the most incompetant and corrupt cover ups ever witnessed.

natalee-holloway

For an Island paradise that prides itself on sandy beaches and a constant trade wind, the last thing they would want is bad publicity of an unsafe island. However, An Alabama high school student, Natalee Holloway, disappeared during her graduation trip to Aruba.

For month after month and year after year the family, friends and millions of people who grew to know Natalee Holloway as their own sister, daughter, cousin or niece saw the injustice of what was occurring in Aruba. So much that today, the last three people ever to be seen with Natalee Holloway walk free. Who knew, actually some did, that Natalee Holloway’s family would have to battle law enforcement, the tourism bureau and certain Aruban media in the quest to find Natalee? Justice was replaced by cronyism as Natalee’s family battled obstacles every inch of the way. However, just as the three suspects were arrested, they would later be set free.

The roller-coaster ride of the search and investigation to find Natalee was like some thing one would read in a fiction novel.  So much injustice that even when the prime suspect in Natalee’s disappearance confessed to the crime, not once but twice … Joran Van der Sloot still is allowed to walk a free man and charged with no crime. In Aruba, if you lie enough … you are considered not a suspect.

Trailer for the Natalee Holloway movie,

For five years Scared Monkeys has backed, supported, searched and done every thing we could for Beth Holloway and the family in order to help provide answers and justice for Natalee. There have been so many calls and discussions with Beth to provide what ever help we could. So many efforts behind the scenes to aid in what ever way possible to help in what ever way possible to provide … JUSTICE FOR NATALEE.

Much more can be read, reviewed at Scared Monkeys.net: Natalee Holloway.

Five years later, Beth Holloway fights on for missing persons. On a personal note, Beth is one of the strongest and most determined individuals I have ever met. However, there are those other moments when she is nothing more than a mere mom who is desperately trying to find her beloved daughter. It is those moments that your heart breaks for her. However, Beth remains resolute in her quest to help the missing and their families. God Bless you Beth.

Her mother, Beth Holloway, who has worked tirelessly to keep attention on her daughter’s disappearance, will be in Washington in June to announce the opening of the Natalee Holloway Resource Center, a new nonprofit to assist families searching for missing relatives.

The center will be based at the National Museum of Crime & Punishment on Seventh Street NW near Chinatown and the Verizon Center. The museum features Holloway’s disappearance in its “Cold Case” exhibit.

The nonprofit plans to serve as a crisis clearinghouse for families of missing persons in the United States and abroad, according to a statement from the museum. The nonprofit plans to give family members a plan, contact information, a media liaison and other services. It also will offer guidelines for children and adults to travel safely, including creating a national network of college volunteers who will promote the group’s safe travel program to high school and college students.

Natalee Holloway Center to Open in D.C.: Crime Prevention, Help Families of Missing, Among the Goals.

Five years later and Beth Holloway is still looking for answers and justice for Natalee. She is also providing resources for other families that might suffer the same terrible situation of finding one of their loved ones a the victims of a missing persons.

God Bless Beth, and we are always behind you.

Beth Holloway made a pledge and … she followed through. Natalee’s mother is one amazing lady!

      Loving Natalee – Beth Holloway

Page 200: My child. My beautiful daughter. I can’t save her. It’s too late. Natalee is gone. And second to the great tragedy of losing her is if we fail to learn from what has happened.

I could be any parent in the world. And no parent should ever go through this experience. Natalee could be anyone’s daughter. And in these thoughts a new path is made clear. There is something I can do. Many people reached out to us, and I can now reach back to them. It might be too late to save Natalee, but it’s not too late to save others. And it’s time now to make good on my pledge to stand before high-school and college students, law enforcement professinals, victims’ rights groups, travelers of all ages, and anyone interested in personal safety to share Natalee’s story and our hard lessons, so that others might learn from them.

      FATHER’S NEVERENDING NIGHTMARE

Corruption in Paradise – Dave Holloway

Page 6: On Monday, May 30, Natalee’s trip came to an end, and she was due to fly home to Alabama. But late in the afternoon, I received a call from Matt telling me that Natalee had missed her flight and that Beth was getting on a plane to Aruba.

Page 7: Beth had flown out of Birmingham on a friend’s private jet as soon as she learned that Natalee had missed her flight. I contacted a commerical airline and booked the next flight out for 5:30 a.m. the following morning.

Later that night, Matt called again to tell me that Natalee’s flight had been rebooked, and she would be coming home the next day. Someone from Delta Airlines had confirmed that a female had called and changed the flight.

I cancelled my flight, but I was still concerned because no one had heard from Natalee.

The next morning, I started making more calls. I could not reach Beth, and I was unable to get a member of the Aruban police force to talk to me on the phone about Natalee.

By noon I learned that Natalee was not getting on the plane. I found out that it had been a chaperone from Natalee’s group who had changed her flight in the hopes that she would reappear. It was then that I knew something tragic must have happened. I feared the worst, but prayed for a miracle. I hung up the phone and broke down …..

      A LIFE CHANGED FOREVER

      MAY 30, 2005

      Loving Natalee – Beth Holloway

Page 23: Rested and refreshed, we leave Memphis late Monday morning with Linda driving and Marilyn up front with her. I take the backseat. We sail along, chatting like we alway do, talking about our plans for another road trip one day soon. Marilyn and I are happily speculating about what our daughters’ reactions will be when they open their presents to find a set of extraordinary Wizard of Oz figures. Natalee will gasp with excitement when she sees these. Before we know it, we’ve crossed over into Mississippi. Somewhere amid our conversation, between the chuckles and the small talk, my cell phone rings. I don’t recognize the number, but answer it anyway, which I usually don’t do.

It’s a young girl. “Mrs. Twitty? My mom … umm … my mom, she umm … wants to talk to you.” It’s the daughter of Judi, the travel agent. She developed appendicitis right before the trip, so she and Jodi didn’t get to go to Aruba. They are in Birmingham. It seems like an eternity before Jodi takes the phone.

“Tell me what’s going on,” I say in a voice much firmer than the one I usually hear coming from my mouth.

She simply says, “Natalee didn’t show up this morning to get on the plane.”

And instantly I know. It’s more than a mother’s intuition. It’s certainty. Something terrible has happened. I have just answered the proverbial dreaded phone call that no mother or father every wants to receive. The one we fear from the moment our children are born. The one that changes a parent’s life forever.

      Loving Natalee – Beth Holloway

Page 58: Detective Jacobs asks us to come to the police station in Bubali in about an hour to give our official statements.

Page 59: Jug, Jodi, and I arrive at Bubali at eight o’clock sharp …

Detective Jacobs is sitting behind the counter in a reclining swivel office chair. As we move toward him, he leans back in his chair. “We’re ready to give our statements,” we say, anxious to tell him the facts about Natalee’s disappearance we’ve gathered thus far, so that an investigation can get under way.

Page 60: He pushes one hand and then the other down and across his belly, which is extended by his rearing back. He says, “I’ll have to eat my frosted flakes first,” and then, running a hand across his jaw, adds, “and get a shave before I can deal with you.” And with that he gets up from the chair, exits through the little swinging door, and disappears ….

A half hour passes. Then an hour. I wish there was an American law enforcement contact here to help us, someone to act as a liaison. I get up from the plastic chair, go outside, and sit down in the gravel driveway ….

I’m outside about thirty minutes when another officer, police chief Jan van der Straten, comes out to the driveway and tells me bluntly and curtly to get up. “You can’t sit in the gravel like this. Come back inside.”

Inside, two more hours pass …

After almost three hours detective Jacobs comes back into the waiting area and tells me he doesn’t need me today.

      JUNE 1, 2005

Corruption in Paradise – Dave Holloway

Page 7: Once I was able to regain my composure, I call my brothers, Phil, Steve, and Todd, and my brother-in-law, Michael. Phil, Michael, and I all tried to book flights out right away but could not get any until the next day.

Page 8: We left Meridian, Mississippi, on the evening of May 31, 2005.

When I arrived in Aruba with my family, we hit the island running. We rented a car and immediately headed out to find a police station. There were only four on the island and I was amazed to find that the first two we entered knew nothing about Natalee’s disappearance. We were then directed to a third one, the Noord Police Station. I walked in and said, “I’m Dave Holloway, and I need to talk to you about my daughter who is missing.” A man in the back stood up and said, “How much money do you have?” That is how I first met Detective Dennis Jacobs, the investigator who was assigned to handle Natalee’s case after Beth made a report to him upon her arrival on the island.

Page 9: Jacobs painted a scenario that questioned all of the beliefs and values that we had instilled in Natalee. He insinuated that she had met someone and fallen in love. “This happens all the time. She will probably show up in a few days,” he theorized. “She was just partying hard,” he added. “Don’t worry. Just go down to Carlos ‘n Charlie’s and have a beer.”

It was June 1, 2005, our first evening in Aruba, my daughter was missing and a detective was telling us to go to a local bar and have a beer. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

However, he did warn us to watch our drinks very carefully , adding that sometimes people put drugs into them. When I talked about search for Natalee, he questioned why we would want to do that.

God Bless Natalee’s family & friends. I hope someday we will know the truth and her family can get closure for Natalee.

      MESSING WITH THE STATEMENTS?

      Loving Natalee – Beth Holloway

Pages 187/189: After waiting months to find out what my statement actually says, Jug calls on my first day in California. He has finally been able to obtain the translation of my statement from prosecutor Janssen. The one the detective brought to me to sign late that night in the restaurant. And I trusted him, and signed every page.

“listen to this, Beth …” The words he reads echo in my head. I begin to sink, and could slide to the ground out of my chair. “Jug, they changed it. They changed my statement.”

I had carefully given intricate details about the encounter in the van der Sloot front yard the first night we got to the island, including names and physical descriptions. Now Paulus van der Sloot is described only as “the man with the glasses.”

      Those are not my words.

Earlier we learned from the prosecutor that the statements from the two uniformed officers who were with us in the van der Sloot front yard that morning didn’t mention the sexual encounters described by Joran between Natalee and him. No mention of his sexual contact with her as she was falling asleep and walking up. No mention of his description of her underwear and genitalia. So the judge never heard about all that.

There‘s no way a police officer could stand there that morning, hear what Joran was saying, and fail to include these details in a statement. No way. In my opinion this information must have been deleted for the officers.

      ++++++++

Corruption in Paradise – Dave Holloway

Page 182: The day after our talk with Ms. Flanegan, I had to go to the police staton to turn in the statement that I had given to Dennis Jacobs. He had given me a copy to go over with my attorney, Vinda. But, after looking at it, I realized that it was only a page and a half long and had little to do with what we had actually discussed the most …

I had spent a long time with Jacobs, and much of my interview was not in the statement.

When I went back to turn it in and discuss it with him, I was told that Jacobs was in with Jan van der Stratten.

Page 183: I commented to Jacobs about how short my statement was. He said that I could add anything I wanted to it. Also, I noticed that Eric Soemers’s name was on it, but that detective was not even present during the interview. Now I wondered if Jacobs was making up everyone’s statement and getting Eric to sign on to them. If that were the case, he could state anything he wanted, and it would look like an official statement made in front of a witness.

      THE THREAT

      Loving Natalee – Beth Holloway

Page 197: There is apparently no amount of money in the world that can get us the answer to what happened to Natalee. When I asked an Aruban attorney about this, his response was chilling: “The threat is bigger than the money,” he says. The Threat. That dark influence. The evil that nothing and no one can pierce.

      ++++++++

Corruption in Paradise – Dave Holloway

Page 117: I also find it hard to believe that with all of the press that Natalee’s disapppearance has attracted, there is not one person anywhere who knows what happened to her. I can only surmise that those who do know something are too afraid to come forward. Maybe there would be a price to pay if they tell, a price so high and so threatening that not even the $1,000,000 reward money is enough of an enticement for someone to bring us the truth.

    11. Melissa on May 31st, 2010 2:54 pm

Aruba will forever be known as the corrupt and reprehensible location where Natalee Holloway met such a vile and sad ending. There probably isn’t one person on the whole island who has the potential which Natalee did. Someday the truth will be known – in God’s time, not ours.

    12. Susan on May 31st, 2010 5:14 pm

We will always remember Natalee Ann Holloway and her family, holding them all near and dear to our hearts! Hopefully someday Beth and Dave will have the answers they deserve and some sort of closure to this never ending nightmare.

      A FATHER’S DESPERATION! A FATHER’S ANGUISH!

Corruption in Paradise – Dave Holloway

Page 42: I grasped at straws. I was desperate. I bloodied by hands from ripping up rocks on the beach in the hopes of finding one tiny shred of evidence. I performed the revolting task of tearing through the contents of a garbage dump in search of my daughter’s body. I scoured crack houses looking to see if Natalee was being held captive in one of them. When officials found out that Americans were going into those places and shaking things up, they became infuriated and told me to back off.

I am a father who has no idea what has happened to my child. The questions run through my mind all day long. They keep me awake at night. Is she dead? Is she alive? Is she being held captive somewhere? Are they hurting her? Is she crying out for me? I need to know. I need to find some peace, one way or another.

    14. NewGirlBoston on May 31st, 2010 8:24 pm

Yes!….Beth Holloway is an amazing Woman/Mother!

We Miss you, Nat! We will never ever forget you despite the fact that Aruba is too corrupt and there truly is no hope for any Justice for Natalee from that stinking, corrupt Island.

Since Paulus Van Der Sloot dropped dead of a heart attack playing Tennis last year—we can surely rely on bad karma being a factor here. Payback is a b*tch, and God is not finished with Joran The Murderer yet. Truly believe that what goes around comes around on this planet and no members directly involved in Natalee’s demise will go unscathed. We will just all wait and see. The only solace to be derived for “The Sporter” now is that currently, his life on the run from his own fate is shit. His book was also complete BS, and how he accepted that blood money, unconscionable. Urine is not welcome to live back in Aruba or the Netherlands till the end of his days. So he can live out the remainder of his measly, grubbing, scummmy life continuing to do all the dirtbag things he does in Thailand or where ever the hell is he now. His life is a complete pile of crap and worthless, and one day it will get even worse.

Then next, will be the downfall of the two Rapist Kalpoe Brothers, and finally Anita VDS will go insane from being completely lonely, isolated and abandoned by the entire human race for lying and protecting for her demon spawn all these years. They will be bringing her out in a straight jacket from a room filled with those ridiculously worthless paintings of hers that no one wants to buy.

As for all the Corrupt Officials on that Island to blame for not doing their jobs and also covering up the crime—they will have to live with themselves and the reduced income revenue from American Tourists in Aruba overall since Natalee’s death took place. While the Industry there still chugs along- Beth Holloway’s movement and dedication of promoting safe International Travel have not been in vein.

      Justice for Natalee in 2010!

You have been in our hearts for 5 years Natalee, Beth, and Dave. We will always support you and never forget you.

    16. A Texas Grandfather on May 31st, 2010 11:41 pm

If ever there was a country that needed an invasion of U.S. troops to clean out the corruption and find justice for an American citizen, Aruba is it.
I spent that weekend that Natalee went missing attending the graduation of one of my grandchildren. This case is one that will be with me always.
It is too bad that our country even allows these worthless people to use our advertising media and we still have companies willing to transport our citizens to a dangerous country. If our own government had any integrety, they would have placed a no travel ban on Aruba.
I did visit the new site designed to help keep travelers safe. This is a good start. Maybe some lives can be saved by their information. Our world is a cruel place and travelers need all the information they can get.
There is one thing that the new site is missing and this is the one thing that might have saved Natalee.
Young people under twenty-one years of age and maybe even up to twenty-five years need to have proper chaparones who are mature adults (meaning over 35) who are willing and able to do a proper job and in sufficient numbers to keep the young out of harms way. The group that chaparoned Natalee’s trip were too few by two-thirds and they did not take their responsibility to a level that they should have.
I watched the movie made of the family and Natalee, but it was hard. I had to stop three times before I could finish it. This film should be made mandatory for all schools that have graduating seniors who plan to make a senior trip.

I feel sorry for what happened and hope something like this never happens again, yet a couple of key points.

      1. If you were born in the U.S. then you have all the rights under the constitution.

      2. The moment you leave U.S. soil, you are a visitor in that country absent of any U.S. rights and law.

With all that stated, would you really venture off to a foreign land you are not familar with absent of a local let alone guardian or friend?
