The future is in the builtinout. When he stated that no one here illegally would benefit from his plan, he was giving us a hint of what is to come – “immigration reform”. And if he grants legal status in some form to all the illegals here now, then they would qualify for free healthcare wouldn’t they?
I have to agree that this will probably add to the deficit. The thing he should be pointing out is that Americans pay upwards of $500 a month for health insurance anyway, so raising taxes shouldn’t be that big of an issue.
To pay for the plan you tax the rich. How about reinstateing the tax on stock dividends that Bush cut? In my opinion that one tax cut has more to do with the present state of the economy than the failures in either the housing or auto industries.
The only difference is that because we went to war more Americans have died while giving more people a chance to get insurance may actually help. Of course now we need everyone to eat a better diet which would do more than any healthcare reform.
