Cambridge Police Support Sgt Crowley … Obama, It’s unfortunate. I supported him, I voted for him, I will not again!

The Obama “Teachable” moment … Racism is ignorance, so is rushing to judgment and accusing someone of racism. Obama just lost votes … and people’s trust in his ability to handle a situation in the right way.

The Cambridge, Mass police come to the support of Sgt. Crowley. Both black and white speak out in favor and support of police Sgt. Crowley. The police would ask people to find out the facts of a case before they ever rush to judgment and call people a racist.

Hat Tip: Drudge Report

The police officers of the Cambridge police department did not deserve this negative attention.

“This situation was not a racially motivated situation”

“I think that Professor Gates has done a very good job of throwing up a very effective smoke screen  called race into this. It had nothing to do with it.”

“And the President? It’s unfortunate. I supported him, I voted for him, I will not again!

I’m glad to see the colleagues of Sgt. Crowley speak out on his behalf and stand behind him. He did his job. Too many times people cry racism before getting all the facts. Mr. Gates should apologize for his actions. All this could have been avoided if he had just been compliant with the l.e. instead of turning this into a racial issue.

Mr. President needs to keep his big mouth shut and do his job. This issue did not concern him and he should have refrained from making a comment on this before having all the facts. Once again, he has made a fool out of himself but I’m sure the liberals will make excuses. He screwed up and he knows it.

Think before you speak. I know it’s difficult without the teleprompter telling you what to say.

So how does your shoe taste Mr. President?

Gates would have had a much stronger case if he had cooperated with Crowley and stepped out on the porch as asked, and then was arrested. More likely, the two would have parted in a friendly manner, and we would have never heard of this. As it is, look for some big show trial that will cost the local taxpayers a few million dollars, just to vindicate Gates’ rather massive ego. Look for the lawyers defending the city and the cop to dredge up several past incidents of hot-headed remarks from Gates.

Again, a Pickpocket meeting a Saint on the Street will
only see his Pockets. A Racially Fixated Professor meeting
an Investigating Police Officer will only see Racism.

#2- David R—Being a MASS resident, I fear there is some truth to some of your estimations in your post…..And- at whose expense? Why, the TAXACHUSETTS taxpayers of course & we already have one of the highest Cost of Living rates per Capita in the US. We tie with CA & NYC.

So, yes– you may be right a few million dollars later here in Mass- and I am already sick of hearing this in the News every night as our top story warranting this enormus amount of coverage.

“Happy Hour” at the White House over a beer? Enough has already been done to make good on the lastest from Obungle, this is just not necessary.

#4 – It’s necessary for purposes of propaganda. Or PR. This event has unexpectantly given all of us the chance to see the real Barack Obama.

Teleprompter-less, Obama is nothing more than an extremely over-rated political hack. Without the teleprompter, he has no verbal finesse. Without the teleprompter, Obama is an actor without a script. Now he has to put a band-aid on the issue.

    6. James on July 28th, 2009 2:08 pm

Both Obama & Gates clearly demonstrated how vengefully racists they both are indeed. Obama’s comments were from the internal workings of his true conscience. So easy to see why his policy changes are geared towards “leveling the playing field” so that blacks can get still yet even more free public assistance. Sorry, but after 32 years of US Army Service I’m quite angry at these things he’s forcing/ramming down the throats of America. Gates aggressive mindless behavior clearly indicates his inner self as well. The “race card” has been played and abused so many times, IT’s WORN OUT.

I just wonder how much that happy hour is going to cost us all. Everything is a photo opp for Obama.

It will be interesting to see if a witch hunt in MASS results from all of this. I heard everyone has lawyers already; even the lady who called 911.

    8. Maggie on July 28th, 2009 3:21 pm

Was funny to see him come out so fast and call the cops stupid, yet he sat in a church for 20 years and listened to a preacher… spew hatred towards white people and other groups.. Their is racial profiling, but also there are many african americans too who are racist against white people. Everything isn’t always about race.. but some of these people love publicity and always try to turn it into that.

Well, I searched all over the CNN.com website, unable to find this story by Mr. Lemon.

Why would CNN not publish this newsworthy interview on their own website?

Alas, no MSM report to be found. A search leads only to blogs for the news.

      What else is new?

OK- well—-a beer at the picnic table…please…I am still not feeling that AT ALL. I would’ve been a little in awe of the Sgt. if he had stuck to his guns completely and said ‘Thanks, but no Thanks BOYS!” to that one and put an end to this entire debacle. Today the Boston Herald on line was reporting that the Sgt. plans to bring his entire family so they can meet the President, see the White House- get a photo, too. Now…and instead— he’s got me feeling like he needs to can this whole thing, too and the faster the better. Is this his “15 minutes” and claim to fame—for what? All he did was perform his job—this in no way makes him a hero.

PS=What in hell’s name does the damn 911 Operator need an Attorney for? Now that’s just plain ridiculous! She too, just simply did her job. Talk about paranoia or overkill! All people like this do is feed in to it and line the pockets of Attorneys. Hogwash!

Lastly, Obungle can spin it any way he wants—he reveals his true colors when he is caught off guard….funny—how the real truth comes out that way.

Obama was right the first time – the Cambridge police officer “acted stupidly”.

Gates did not violate any law. Under Massachusetts law, which the police officer was supposedly enforcing, speaking (because as we all know now there was no yelling by Gates) to a police officer is not illegal.
Massachusetts law clearly provides that Gates did not commit disorderly conduct.
Not only did Crowley violate section 98D but he also violated the 4th Amendment and probably the 1st.
Berating a cop is legal, even if the cop didn’t earn it. But in this instance Crowley did earn whatever berating he allegedly received.

Arresting someone for doing something that isn’t illegal is pretty…..stupid.

Why are you folks justifying the arrest of a law-abiding citizen and the violation of their constitutional rights?

Just more hypocrisy from the right I guess. Lol.

    14. Susan on July 28th, 2009 8:42 pm

Mr. Gates was said to have been yelling at the officer, it did not come out on these tapes, but may be on dispatcher tapes that were not heard by the public ~ his partner confirmed that Mr. Gates behavior was inappropriate ~

One thing he yelled at the officer during the questioning was “do you know who I am?”…

If Officer Gates knew who he was, would he have been asking for his I.D.? He called in the Harvard Police to help I.D. this man in the household… there were 2 men reportedly breaking in ~ and the officer asked if there was someone else in the home… (It turned out, that one of the men present at the front door that was seen by a passerby or the 911 caller that as a burgeler… it turned out to be the limousine driver

Someone on the talk radio mentioned that this is about his status and “class” I have to agree with that ~ apparently, this guy is known to be a bully ~ used to bullying people around ~ I”m not saying he’s one, I don’t know him… it’s possible ~

To me, it became about race, when Mr. Gates made it about race ~ he, Mr. Gates made it about race when he inferred such in comments he had made to the officers and company present during his arrest.

Officer Crowley, teaches about racial profiling and is highly regarded by many police depts in the Commonwealth ~ he’s not a racist ~ the officer with Crowley that evening, said that Crowley acted 100% correct and he would have done the same ~ (I do not like differentiating someone by the color of their skin) however, will share that ~ in the local papers, his partner is reported to have been black ~ officer crowley is white and Mr. Gates is both black and white…
he is an intelligent man and professor at Harvard and he talks often about race issues… so,was this was a platform to jump off of, with his agenda for more exposure for his book signings, speaking engagements, what have you… ? It is appearing as such~ time will tell ~

Mr. Gates was arrested for disorderly conduct ~ folks get arrested in the Commonwealth for this all the time ~ it is not an isolated event ~ there is protocol that the police performed and there is decorum a suspect needs to present, when being questioned and it begins with yes officer, no officer and co-operating by having respect for those in uniform, who are trying to do their job ~ in a systematic respectful manner…

I still say, Mr. Gates should have been more grateful to the police for having shown up to investigate a B & E, when his home had been broken in to months earlier… (the Cambridge Police had not gotten the call, but the Harvard Police handled the B & E, as the property is owned by Harvard University)… with having that knowledge, that his home had been broken in to months earlier ~ all the more reason, to say who you are, give them your I.D., answer questions presented and call it a day ~ instead it esculated into something that became about race ~ it was all about a Breaking and Entering in effect and officers doing thier job and the occupant/owner, being pissed off…

      who acted stupidly?

      Not the officers ~

maybe the Officer should have not of broken into his own home… or had his limousine driver at the front door and then, they both go inside… it sure must of appeared to have been a Burglary in progress ~ neighbors noticed and so did a passerby ~

The police would have asked those same questions, regardless if it were Mr. Gates, you or me ~… regardless if we were purple, pink, green, black, orange or white…

The officers were doing their job ~

maybe, if Mr. Gates was in such a pickle, he could have called the officers from Harvard Police, (after all, they know him and they investigated a B & E months earlier in his home… or he could have contacted the Cambridge Police and have asked for assistance in getting into his home ~ having been locked out… after all, the neighbors were on alert for many crimes in the neighborhood… all he had to do was make a call… when the police from both departments began showing up, the Harvard PD would have identified him, the neighborhood calling in to the station could have had their fears calmed down, saying ~ this is the owner/occupant not to worry tonight… showing his I.D. ~ that would have been easy enough… for such an intelligent, educated man… he wasn’t thinking with common sense that night ~

maybe Mr. Gates should have thought twice, before breaking into his own home… not only call the police to report what he was up to, and ask for assistance even… but he should have considered the consequences of his actions due to the break ins… should he have told his neighbors that he didn’t have his keys and had to get into his house that night and that the guy with him, was his limousine driver at the front door? That would have helped too… hindsight now…

The police who arrived on the scene that night would have asked those same questions, regardless if it were Mr. Gates, you or me ~… regardless if we were purple, pink, green, black, orange or white…

I completely agree that this unfortunate event can be used as a very effective teaching tool. The real question is what should be taught and to whom. The police acted appropriately to protect a home from suspected criminal activity, so they’re excused from this class. That leaves the professor and the president, who both jumped to play the race card before taking a moment to consider the facts of the situation. No, I’m not suggesting that racism no longer exists in this country but overuse and unwarrented use of said race card works against future progress in the effort to finally create a color-blind nation.

#17 – sounds as if you’d like to make the US a police state.

The police are charged with enforcing laws. It is not a crime to tell a cop that he is being a racist, even if: (1) he is not being a racist; or (2) the form in which the cop is told that he is a racist takes the form of a profanity-filled tirade.

Kitty: Do we really want the police to enforce “decorum” through the use of their arrest powers? Then we empower the police to determine what constitutes “decorum”, which could have all sorts of unfortunate consequences.

According to Massachusetts law, the cop exercised neither reasonable judgment nor good faith. Even from his own police report, it is blatantly obvious that he arrested Gates solely because Gates was disrespectful to him.

“Contempt of cop” is not a crime.
