Arturo Gatti’s Wife, Amanda Rodrigues, Suspect in Death of Former Boxer … Taken into Custody because of Inconsistent Statements
Did Arturo Gatti’s wife kill him … Honeymoon from Hell!
Police have named his wife the prime suspect in the death of Arturo Gatti. The wife of former boxing champion Arturo Gatti has been taken into custody by Brazilian police and is considered a suspect in his death at the Porto de Galinhas resort in northeastern Brazil. Gatti was found dead by his wife in their rented condo at the seaside resort of Porto de Galihnas in Brazil.
23 year old Amanda Rodrigues was taken into custody on Sunday by police because of contradictions and inconsistencies in her statements when she was interviewed by police. According to a spokeswoman for the Pernambuco state civil police, Gatti was strangled with the strap of a purse.
A spokeswoman for the Pernambuco state civil police says Gatti was apparently strangled with the strap of a purse, which was found with blood stains at the scene. Milena Saraiva told The Associated Press that the Canadian also had a head injury.
The Boxing Scene.com is reporting that a former boxer told Brazilian reporters that Gatti and his wife were having some sort of problems and were about to separate.
Other reports state that Gatti and Rodrigues were apparently involved in a heated argument at a Brazilian bar earlier on Friday evening.
Still other reports state that the two were extremely jealous of each other and that he constantly complained of her clothing when she traveled to Brazil. I guess it begs the question, then why vacation in Brazil?
Inconsistent statements, changing stories, blood on a purse strap and a head injury have police pointing the suspect finger at Arturo Gatti’s wife, Amanda Rodrigues. Could the former boxing champ have been hit in the back of the head while his back was turned with an object and then strangled to death? Or was he asleep?
Milena Saraiva, a spokesperson for the police said that they are preparing to present a formal accusation against Amanda Rodrigues.
Saraiva said authorities were preparing to present a formal accusation against Rodrigues.
According to published reports, police said Rodrigues, a Brazilian, could not explain how she spent nearly 10 hours in the room without noticing that Gatti was already dead.
