John Edwards & Rielle Hunter: Gov. Sanford, I’ll See Your Argentinian Mistress and Raise you a Sex Tape

As the media fixates in on Governor Sanford’s extramarital affair with his Argentinian mistress, it would appear that former Democratic VP candidate and North Carolina Senator just cannot get out of the headlines with his affair with Rielle Hunter.

Seems that John Edwards is playing a game of Texas “Affair” Holdem with all new comers. Hey Mark Sanford, I’ll see your Argentina babe and raise you a “reille” Sex tapeEliot Spitzer, the bets to you.  After all, Reille Hunter is good with a camera, isn’t that why she was hired in the first place?

Former Edwards aide Andrew Young says the ex-senator and his former mistress, Rielle Hunter, once made a sex tape, according to someone who has seen Young’s book proposal.

St. Martin’s Press just inked a deal with Young, who also says in his proposal that, contrary to his public statement last year, he is not the father of Hunter’s infant daughter — Edwards is. Edwards has denied that.

Then again, didn’t Edwards deny the affair with Reille Hunter as well? The fact of the matter is, when it comes to a wife being a victim in an affair, Elizabeth Edwards is above and beyond ahead. When your wife has cancer and you continue the affair anyhow, it’s pretty hard to not get scumbag of the decade award.

      Sanford/Edwards—what’s the diff? REP/DEM….doesn’t matter…

a lying, cheating ADULTERING POLITICIAN is just that… a lying cheating Politician who has extra-maritial affair(s), lies & gets caught.

TRANSLATION = STUPID & TYPICAL! How SM can even try to differentiate between these 2 Men is beyond me. Let’s note for the record also we have had SEVERAL PRESIDENTS in office (again, both DEM & REP) who have done the same while serving our Nation.

An egregious abandonment of morality is one issue—lying to the American Public quite another.

ANewGirl: You ask now SM can differentiate between Sanford and Edwards and then saying lying to the American public is different than morality.

I disagree. Immorality is immorality. Lying is just as bad as having an affair – because both are lying. I would say that being in a leadership position and lying, immoral behavior, etc. are worse because as a leader, we should expect better. It’s betraying the people in your personal life and betraying the trust granted by the public.

If I had my way every politician found directly lying or other immoral behavior would be thrown out of office and told to clean up their own house before they attempt to represent the public.

I’m sure there are those that would argue personal behavior has nothing to do with leadership but I disagree. If you are a liar or immoral, you are a liar and immoral. Why should I believe that you would lie to your wife/husband but not the public?

Of course we are all flawed people, I think of the Biblical David (a man after God’s own heart it says) and his immoral behavior. However, when one puts their self up to HIGH standards and then fail so badly in a public way, I think it is better to leave office and get out of the public eye. Maybe I will just have to wait until St Stephen gives his opinion because he is the NEW authority on the blog!!

Your comment re David is valid, to be sure, But by no stretch of anyone’s imagination(especially my own) am I an authority on this blog on anything(but thanks for the kind words at any rate).

My opinion has as much weight as anyone else’s here, some of the posters are rougher, some are more tactful, but they are equal in their meaning and presentation.

As for Gov Sanford leaving office, ideally for the role model that Republicans MUST play for the future of this country, that would be an appropriate response. HOWEVER, one must be certain that the person replacing him is of set values and sound principles. If that is not an option, it may be wise to wait for the primaries if he does not want to step down.

It would indeed be foolhardy to demand his ouster without knowing what is coming after him, and yes, it can be worse than the trangression that he admits.

Gov Sanford is a human being and as such imperfect. He can, however, still play an important role in the Republican party and may even lend a hand in who can take over his governorship, if he is sincere about the strength and direction the party will take.

We have a solid foundation that we can build on in terms of strong values and we start with the aforementioned Gov. Sarah Palin, Gov. Mitt Romney, former Govs. Mike Huckabee and Jeb Bush, Gen Colin Powell, the list goes on and on.

We have a literal groundswell of role models that we need to market in a positive manner, meaning not so much critcizing the Dems programs(they are doing a good job of that on their own by assaulting the senses of the public) but presenting our solutions in a postive, dynamic and encouraging light.

I will say this now until the cows come home, we need to start TODAY. It is not hard to do and the rewards will come by 2010 and of course 2012.

This sex garbage right now by both parties is smoke and mirrors to draw us away from the job at hand, so let’s work out what we really need and draw up a slate that has a program the American public truly understands.

#2- katablog: ANewGirl: You ask now SM can differentiate between Sanford and Edwards and then saying lying to the American public is different than morality…///

that’s not what I said at all. I did not say that lying to the American Public is different..I simply stated that immoral behavior (Extra maritial affairs) are one issue- lying to the public is another issue, They both are immoral and I do agree with what you point out as especially having a problem with these things when in a leadership position. I merely pointed out that they are two different issues and I could not see SM differntiating between Edwards/Sanford when they were both guilty of the same conduct. The only difference was in some of the sordid details.

    6. katablog.com on June 29th, 2009 9:13 pm

two different issues: In my book that means the are “different”.

    7. ANewGirl on June 29th, 2009 9:49 pm

#6–Yes. In my book, too—so your point is? Once again, the point of my first comment is merely that I saw no difference in these Men/Politicians and their conduct when comparing Edwards to Sanford. thanks

The trump card of the game is when the wife has terminal cancer, and then the man has a child by the mistress…IMO game over, he wins!!He is ultimate bad boy and has to live with himself and forget political plans.

    9. ANewGirl on June 30th, 2009 9:19 am

#8- Bun—Yep! that is the trump card there for sure. How LOW can you go? I’m sure there will be more stories as time passes of future Politicians with shameful behavior—and I wouldn’t doubt there even may be a circumstance more disgusting than the 2 above….when it comes to the human race nowadays—nothing would surprise me! =(

Sanford compared his actions to those of the Biblical David, clearly a dangerous republican Im so glad his wifes not standing by him.I know people are not perfect but when america votes someone in I dont think they realize they will be paying for theses mens affairs as well…give em an inch they take a mile.
