Real Estate: Top Underwater Mortgage Cities

According to reports, 20% of U.S. homeowners owing more on a mortgage than their homes are worth. The number of “underwater” borrowers is bad for them, but an opportunity for other first time home owners who were previously shut out of the process.

Real-estate Web site Zillow.com said that overall, the number of borrowers who are underwater climbed to 20.4 million at the end of the first quarter from 16.3 million at the end of the fourth quarter. The latest figure represents 21.9% of all homeowners, according to Zillow, up from 17.6% in the fourth quarter and 14.3% in the third quarter.

“What’s going on here is that you don’t have any markets that have turned around and you have new markets, like Dallas, that have joined the ranks” of communities where home prices have fallen, said Stan Humphries, a Zillow.com vice president.

What is interesting is the percentage of the top 10 “underwater” cities in the United States. As the Obama Administration looks to stabilize the housing market with tax dollars, why is it that the large percentage of underwater borrowers all seem to be in the same states? California, Florida and Nevada seem to be the worst hit.

Question One: Is the percentage of underwater borrowers inflated by some 4 or 5 states that have been hit worse than others where housing prices prior to the down turn in the economy were highly inflated? Not to make light of the situation, but does this mean that the government is going to help with car payments as well? The minute you drive off the lot in a new car the value of the car drops below what you just paid for it. Are bailouts next for car loans?

Question Two: Your home is an investment like a stock. Why would one stop paying their mortgage just because, at the present, the mortgage may be more the the worth of the home? Does that mean when home prices eventually come back in a cyclical manner that these same people who got tax payer bailouts through government incentive mortgage plans are going to pay back the difference?

Drew Peterson Faces Arraignment Today for Murder of Third Wife Kathleen Savio

Drew Peterson was arrested on May 7, 2009 for the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Today, he is scheduled to be formally arraigned on first degree murder charges in the 2004 slaying of Kathleen Savio. Defense attorney Joel Brodsky is expected to try and lower his clients $20 million bond.

Maybe Drew did some reading over the weekend and will act accordingly today in court?

Peterson is accused of drowning Savio, who was found dead in a dry bathtub in 2004 with a gash on the back of her head. Her death originally was ruled an accident, but after Stacy Peterson went missing, Savio’s body was exhumed and authorities ruled it a homicide staged to look like an accident.

Wonder what antics we can expect from Drew Peterson today? His last trip to court was quite the media spectacle as the attention seeking Peterson made jokes regarding his shackles and prison provided attire Drew Peterson and his attorney use the excuse when it comes to his behavior, “how am I supposed to act, it’s not like there is a book for this.” Actually Drew, there is … you can read it here.

UPDATE I:

As expected in court this morning, Drew Peterson pleads not guilty to murdering his 4th wife.

Prosecutors filed a motion at the hearing asking for a new judge. State’s Attorney James Glascow didn’t give a reason, and court recessed while another judge was called to handle rest of the hearing.

UPDATE II:

Prosecutors asks for change of judge; hearing set for Thursday

Shortly after Peterson’s case was called before the Will County judge Monday morning, prosecutors asked for a change of judge, which was followed by an immediate call for recess. The matter was set for a hearing on Thursday.

On March 5, 1993, Gail was admitted to Kino Community Hospital.  Danielle says Gail suffered from bipolar disorder and had stopped taking her medicine.  However, hours later, the hospital allowed Gail to leave wearing only a blue bathing suit and a long, white coverall.  Danielle says the hospital never called any family members to come retrieve Gail, who eventually got in a taxi. Police say Gail was last seen around 1:30 a.m. at a convenience store at East Golf Links and South Houghton roads.  The next morning, Danielle says three bicyclists found Gail’s remains on the outskirts of Tucson in a desert area south of Broadway on Barclay Park Loop.  Authorities say she died from a blow to the back of the head and hypothermia.

Obama Advisor David Axelrod Calls Miss California a Dog … Since Obama has Same Position on Gay Marriage is he a Dog too?

Didn’t President Barack Obama make the following comment at Notre Dame University today regarding working together and not demonizing the other side? I guess his senior advisor did not get a copy of the speech. Because referring to another as a dog is praising them. Once again, it’s a just words.

The question, then _ the question then is how do we work through these conflicts? Is it possible for us to join hands in common effort? As citizens of a vibrant and varied democracy, how do we engage in vigorous debate? How does each of us remain firm in our principles, and fight for what we consider right, without, as Father John said, demonizing those with just as strongly held convictions on the other side?

David Axelrod, the senior advisor to President Barack Obama referred to Carrie Prejan, Miss California as a dog. Does that mean that Axelrod thinks Barack Obama is a dog as well? After all, Obama and Miss California have the same stance on gay marriage. However, to liberals, this isn’t mean or demeaning, it’s funny. Because they said so.

More tolerance from the Obama Administration. Senor Obama advisor went in NPR’s “Wait, Wait … don’t tell me,” and called Miss California, Carrie Prejan, a dog. It’s nice to know that so many in Barack’s posse got his memo on tolerance and changing the attitudes in Washington.

Michael Phelps is Human After All (BONG) … Phelps Loses 100 m Backstroke to Aaron Peirsol

BONG, BONG, BONG … A life learning lesson for the unbeatable Michael Phelps.

The unbeatable Michael Phelps is beatable after all.

US swimmer Aaron Peirsol, the world record holder and two time Olympic champion handed swimming sensation and Olympic medal phenom Phelps his first defeat in nearly a year, winning the 100-meter backstroke at the Charlotte UltraSwim.

Wearing his new Arena suit, Peirsol got off to a strong start and touched in 53.32 seconds. Phelps was trailing by more than a half-second at the turn and had no chance to make that up against one of the greatest backstrokers, taking second in 53.79.

It would appear that Phelp’s off-season breathing exercises of bong hits is not conducive to swimming after all. This is actually the best thing that could happen to Michael Phelps. Learning that by slacking off and not training in a manner that he has always done in the past to make himself the best, he will not be the best.

It’s time for Michael Phelps to be responsible. You are allowed to mess up and make a comeback. America loves a riches to rags to riches story. However, Michael Phelps has to make the decision whether he wants to be America’s greatest Olympic hero for all time and set the standard for swimming that no one can beat, or does he want to be another Bode Miller.

Surprise, surprise, surprise … now Speaker Pelosi seems to be backpedalling on her criticism of the CIA. She is back to the more popular Democratic spin of, “it’s all Bush’s fault”. After all, when former Democratic operatives and now CIA Director like Leon Panetta call your bluff what is San Fran Nan to do?

“My criticism of the manner in which the Bush Administration did not appropriately inform Congress is separate from my respect for those in the intelligence community who work to keep our country safe,” Pelosi said in a statement.
