Who was looking out after Nevaeh Buchanan?
5 year old Nevaeh Buchanan is still missing as the search continues for the little girl who disappeared Sunday evening from the parking lot of the apartment complex where she lives. She was last seen at the parking lot of the Charlotte Arms Apartment Complex on Macomb Street in Monroe, MI. An Amber Alert has been issued for Nevaeh Buchanan. The search continues for the missing girl.
Missing Nevaeh Buchanan
Sherry Buchanan, Nevaeh’s custodial grandmother made the following comment regarding her missing grand daughter.
“Every time I close my eyes, I see her face and I just want peace in my heart,” said the girl’s grandmother, Sherry Buchanan, who has custody of Nevaeh.
Overcome with emotion, she said she is praying someone will bring her back.
“She’s my world.”
If this was the case, maybe one might have thought twice when you would allow your daughter, Jennifer Buchanan, to associate with a convicted sex offender and expose 5 year old Nevaeh Buchanan to such an individual. That is correct, two individuals have been taken into custody and questioned by police in the disappearance of Nevaeh Buchanan. One is a transient seen in the area. The other is George Kennedy, a convicted sex offender and friend of Nevaeh Buchanan’s mother, Jennifer Buchanan. Police are stating that both men are being questioned, but neither are suspects. Where have we heard that before?
Who knowingly allows a convicted sex offender to be near their 5 year old daughter?
Kennedy, of 15390 Dixie Hwy., which is a motel, has been registered as a sex offender in Michigan since 2002.
He was convicted on one count each of attempted criminal sexual conduct and attempted children-accosting for immoral purposes, according to the Michigan State Police.
Criminal sexual conduct in the third degree involves forced sexual penetration with a person between the ages of 13 and 16. Child-accosting can involve any child younger than 16.
Ms. Buchanan said she was good friends with Kennedy for about two years and denied they were dating.
He called her regularly in the mornings, she said, but the last time she had seen him was four days ago. Ms. Buchanan said she knew he was a registered sex offender.
She said her daughter knew him well enough that she would have gotten into a car with him.

We will ask the question again. Who the hell in their right mind would allow their daughter to be near a sexual predator like George Kennedy? We teach our children to never associate with such scum, not feel so comfortable that they might actually feel comfortable getting into a car with them because a parent made it appear okay.
How does a parent put their child at such risk and in harm’s way? Why do we feel that this missing persons case was over before it ever began?

Its getting confusing, I don’t know whether to check back here or on the crime page when sometimes the same story is written up here and there. Guess I can google for more info, if I want it.

First off…I’m not defending anyone here. But you need to reread the statute, because CSC 3rd Degree is not always penetration with a 13-16 year old. It can be but it is not necessarily a given. It can be one of the other elements listed under subsection b,c,or d.

I do admire your willingness to protect you children by the way. I remember when a man tried to get my 15 yr old daughter into his car right in front of out house years back, I ran down the street after him, got his tag and since it was a cul-de-sac…was ALMOST successful getting the keys from the ignition. After the police report, the officer on the scene asked if I’d come to the station, which I did. The deputy sheriff (2nd in command) wanted to meet me because (as he said) it is unheard of for a woman to go after a sex offender and they’d received “numerous” 911 calls because those watching out the windows thought I was the one being abducted! Why? Because as I put my body 1/2 way through the passenger window to grab the keys the guy took off and I got thrown to the side. Had my husband been home, I’d probably still be visiting him in prison cuz he’d have killed the guy I am 100% sure.
Oh, and by the way…the tag number did not match the vehicle. The police did go to the home of the last person the tag was registered to who was a college student at VA Tech a few miles from where I lived. He was amazed because he had sold the car with those tags 2 yrs prior…and the guy’s description was nothing close to the fat, red-headed creep I saw that day. I search the SOR to this day looking for that face. The yellow piercing eyes I saw I’ll NEVER forget!!!

Wanted to let you know, Monkey to Monkey–I feel your passion, rage and pain. God only knows what I would have done were I to be in your shoes on that fateful day. I admire your courage as a woman—and can validate what you felt that day–and the ANGER you still must feel to present.
As Mothers- we know we can say (without a dount) that we would put our own lives on the line to save one of our own. I know I would.
What upsets me the most- is as you point out—how our judicial system( though through the National Sex Offendor Registration Program it has made attempts to imporve a ghastly situation)–but how our very own Judicial Systems keeps FAILING to protect those it was designed for —OUR MOST PRECIOUS RESOURCE = OUR CHILDREN!!
As caring American Mom’s & Citizens—this is why I will continue to donate when I can to causes and the grass roots movement which tries to assist our children and families in distress. It may only be a modest amount of money- but something is better than nothing. What is more relevant is our ACTIONS, our voices! Our campaigning for the causes which we so believe in.
Also, in our own respective communities–we have got to keep showing up at the City and Town Hall Meetings, the State or Federal Level if we can and keep PETITIONING for more resources and improvements in the various Local, State and Federal Programs. I don’t care if my State Senators think I am a whack-a-doodle—it never hurts to write to them or send emails pleading for them for help. There are certain ones in each State who you know are effective- and of course, those who you know where it would be a waste of time.

I’ve been there myself ~ having been assaulted as a child of 3 ~ by 5 boys ~ I almost died from it too…and my sister was traumatized by watching it happen… and blamed herself for many years for not being able to save me and help me… bless her ~ nothing happened to these boys ~ that was some 50 years ago…
I’ve been there as a mother, who’s child was entrusted in the care of a dear friend, who went to the mall shopping as her “in laws” watched my son and her daughter, as my other child was having pre operative blood work done for an upcoming surgery ~ and was chronically ill since birth…(and the Lord healed him since) ~ Praise God~
TWO innocent children sexually assaulted by an evil monster ~ two innocent babies ~ entrusted in the care of an adult… who left them in the care of her in-laws, (that was not the arrangement from me) ~
Here goes: The sexual assault officer in the community where it happened, CALLED the predator~ (Grandfather of the 3 year old child assaulted, along with my assaulted 3 year old) and gave him a heads up, that they were coming to his house to search it…(with warrant) Who ever in their right mind, would call the predator/pedophile/monster/perpetrator and say, ” We are coming to your house to search it”??? it’s true… it was true ~ and 2 very bright, articulate, 3 year olds, lives were changed forever, not to mention their parents/families… not to mention the years and years of counseling ~ and the life impact upon us all..
I will regret to the day, I die, that I entrusted my son, in this former friends care ~ I’ve made peace with that… and it has taken over 21 years to forgive myself for leaving him with her that day ~ 21 years… I have blamed myself for 21 years ~ I’ve written letters, called my legislators, DA’s offices, spoken to Judges and it all falls on deaf ears ~ It is so incomprehensible, that our children are not valued in our society… where monsters walk free to prey upon the innocent ~
Those who are caught, are given a slap on the wrist, serve minimal time and sent back into your an my neighborhoods to prey upon the innocent little children ~ again and again and again and I’m REALLY angry about this. Yes, I am. I speak from experience as both a victim/survivor and as a parent, who thought a system was in place to protect and put away criminals. NOT!

I was literally on my way to KILL him and God’s grace, ended up in my pastors office seeking some kind of solace in the madness ~ and if I didn’t stop that day, to talk with my pastor ~ or have the DA’s, counselor’s voice, my families voices drumming in my head, you’ll go to prison, don’t do it… and if I didn’t have Christ in my life, I’d of continued on and done the deed as I didn’t want any other child to be harmed the way these 2 innocent babies were and I wanted to protect the children that he’d harm in the future by stopping him forever…
and if I did that, I’d of been put in prison for the rest of mine… I thank God, He and His angels pulled me off the highway that day, into my Pastors office ~ That was a Godsend.
I had DA’s offices, State Police, 2 police departments, my husband, family members and friends say to me, if you kill him/them, you’ll be the one in prison, your boys need you…YOUR BOYS NEED YOU… oh, and did I NEED THEM to be safe, to have a Mom… and they have a (fierce) loving MOM…
That is what stopped me and only that ~ my FAITH ~ and that MY boys, needed me and my husband needed me…and so, I gave it to the Lord, to help me deal with, as it was too BIG and also, I know what it is like to have lived that kind of suffering and also, I know now, what it is and was like to want to murder someone…we are all capable…
This monster, for 20 years, has walked the streets ~ FREELY… no record. NOT on a sex offender list. Isn’t that frightening? Who else, has he harmed? Who?

I’ve put my energy into writing many a letter, called anyone who’d listen and also have advocated for children who’s voices have been silenced ~ for over 20 years ~

It’s not the “strangers” that harm your child, it’s typically someone close and known to the family and they are very, very clever and literally are getting away with murdering the souls of innocent children and even successful in abductions/murder of children who’s voices are silenced again, forever.

We’ll just have to keep continuing to use our (fierce) voices until those on Beacon Hill and elsewhere have an epiphany ~ as it is costing society much more than it would by keeping these monsters in prison for the rest of their lives… (sigh) truly…
Another thought was that there was a television program where they set up a mock predator/victim situation and watched peoples reactions and it was riveting to me, that they did not take it a step further to teach the viewing audience on what to do if folks were witnessing this type of behavior and a sexual crime/abduction taking place… unreal ~ (I’ve yet to write to the station that did that show)… it showed how vulnerable little ones are, and yet did nothing to empower those to call the police… even yet, if the police were called, they’d intervene, yet allow these monsters to continue to walk… so, much more needs to be done from the foundation up…
For dennistn ~ in the Middle East ~ (I’ve an Armenian friend that is from Egypt).. he shared that they take the monster/predators and execute them publicly ~ flogging them to death ~ for all to see… no jail time necessary over there. Solved. Children are safer there, than here.
It is the worse thing that we can do to the monster(s) (them), for the time being and they need to STAY in prison(s)… not be RELEASED!… true, that those advocacy groups, would fight for their release ~ it’s vile.
Mike a corrections officer I met at a Red Sox game during Mothers Day weekend shared that they release them from Bridgewater, because it’s costing the Commonwealth $50,000.00 a year to keep them locked up… we agreed that there should be facilities to keep them locked up forever, as they can NOT be rehabilitated…

You’d be surprised how many women will actually throw their child to the wolves.
I endured sexual abuse at the hands of a man that my mother married. After being told about the abuse, she never stopped it.
This whole case makes me ill beyond words. It’s so triggering but I can’t stop reading to see what happens to this P.O.S. of a mother. She should be locked up for child endangerment. Why she hasn’t been charged, just makes NO SENSE. Authorities are being to gentle with this slimy woman. I have no sympathy for Jennifer !

We’ll just have to keep continuing to use our (fierce) voices until those on Beacon Hill and elsewhere have an epiphany ~ as it is costing society much more than it would by keeping these monsters in prison for the rest of their lives… (sigh) truly…
Another thought was that there was a television program where they set up a mock predator/victim situation and watched peoples reactions and it was riveting to me, that they did not take it a step further to teach the viewing audience on what to do if folks were witnessing this type of behavior and a sexual crime/abduction taking place… unreal ~ (I’ve yet to write to the station that did that show)… it showed how vulnerable little ones are, and yet did nothing to empower those to call the police… even yet, if the police were called, they’d intervene, yet allow these monsters to continue to walk… so, much more needs to be done from the foundation up…
For dennistn ~ in the Middle East ~ (I’ve an Armenian friend that is from Egypt).. he shared that they take the monster/predators and execute them publicly ~ flogging them to death ~ for all to see… no jail time necessary over there. Solved. Children are safer there, than here.
It is the worse thing that we can do to the monster(s) (them), for the time being and they need to STAY in prison(s)… not be RELEASED!… true, that those advocacy groups, would fight for their release ~ it’s vile.
Mike a corrections officer I met at a Red Sox game during Mothers Day weekend shared that they release them from Bridgewater, because it’s costing the Commonwealth $50,000.00 a year to keep them locked up… we agreed that there should be facilities to keep them locked up forever, as they can NOT be rehabilitated…
Actually, it’s costing society MORE than money by releasing them! Heinous! Outrageous! just letting them do it again and again and again…

Im sorry, but I keep hearing and reading about what this poor mother is going thru. She is just as guilty as the animal that is involved in this case. People quit making excuses for woman that rape, kill, or let it happen to their kid or someome elses. They are just as sick, twisted an animal as a guy who does this. I am sick to my stomach as another day passes without finding this beautiful girl.
It is my understanding that this women did not have custody of the child. The child was in the custody of her grandmother, likely the result of her criminal history, or maybe her choice in companions!!
That being said, this nut that was hooked up with the sex offender still chose to allow this pervert access to this innocent child. This guy was convicted of CSC 3rd (which may well have been a plea bargain!) and did rape a child.
I have seen cases where a person is charged with sexual deviance for repeated public indecency (re: posting #5 and #16/17) and be forced to register as such. All that aside, everyone is assuming that this dude and/or his buddy raped and killed this girl and she has not even been located. Whether or not they were involved remains to be seen, but the opportunity should NEVER have been there.
I think that a tried and true pedophile CANNOT be “rehabbed”. But, I want to remind everyone of the recent public outcry over the Department of Correction budget; there aren’t autoworkers paying income taxes – the trickle-down effect from that has had a staggering effect on the state budget. YOUR legislators are left to make decisions about how to balance the budget. They certainly are not going to cut their own pensions and salaries, therefore, they are returning known pedophiles back into YOUR neighborhoods on “GPS tether” systems and are sleeping just fine at night. In the meantime, literally thousands of offenders are being released. Enough to mothball two prisons and cut more than 1000 jobs in corrections. @ Carol (#37) – I am a parent and I know the point that a sex offender is nearby my neighborhood AND my children’s school because I am vigilant about being informed and keeping these sick ba$tards away from my kids. When I divorced and finally began to date, you bet I ran their names on PSOR and OTIS!! Who would take a chance with the safety of their kids?! Anybody w/internet access (which, I might add, is available at pretty much ANY public library) can check a website and know if a REGISTERED offender is living in their neighborhood. (www.mipsor.state.mi.us) Now, I’m a realist, so I know that not all sex offenders/parolees follow the rules and register, but being as informed as possible is better than shrugging my shoulders and hoping for the best.
As far as her neighbor “watching” Neveah…gotta question that. Even in a rural area, I wouldn’t allow a five-year-old child to play outside alone, unchecked, let alone in a parking lot/park in the city. Again, just my two bits.
I believe that this “mother” prostituted her daughter for drugs. She is the one who is the monster since she allowed her child to play unsupervised and allowed a sex offender to be in her child’s life. It would appear that the likely outcome of such negligence would be something terrible happening to this girl. In this case, death. This “mother” did not have custody of her daughter, she was in jail for 2 years, she took drugs, and she had friends that were sex offenders. What kind of person does this sound like to you? She is eqaually responsible for this death as the person who murdered her.
I feel so sorry for this little girl being born into such a mess of a family life. Her life was doomed from the day she was born:

The nut doesn’t fall far from the tree.Her father was too young…at 17 to father a child…where were his parents and how did he take responsibility for the child. Jennifer Buchanan is uneducated as I would wage a bet her own mother is as well.Jennifer Buchanan should have been forbidden any visitation/contact with her daughter because she was in a relationship with a convicted sex offender .She also should be in violation of parole. Her statement “I wanted to give him a second chance” tells of her ignorance and inability to parent her child in a safe manner. Jennifer Buchanan , the grandmother should both be sued by Nevaheh’s father for contributing to the murder of this child. They all live off public assistance and are a drain on society..I will gladly pay my taxes to see them both spend time locked behind bars just as I have paid to support them while they live off the dole.
