Central Bank of Aruba Says Aruba in Further Economic Decline … Aruba Haunted by Natalee Holloway

Down down, down … and once again, it is not the B-52’s singing Lock Lobster.

Just when Aruba claimed it was safe to go back in the water and things were better in Aruba following the turmoil, unrest and distrust from their actions in dealing with the investigation of the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, the Central of Aruba now says Aruba is in further economic decline. Tax revenues down, overnight visitors down, number of residing visitors down, cruise ship passengers down, cruise ship visits down and the average inflation over twelve months increased with 0.4 percent points to 6.8 percent, compared to the same month in 2008

Aruba_OneSadIsland

The Central Bank of Aruba (CBA) concludes that the Aruban economy is declining further. The revenues of the ‘bbo’-tax in March dropped with 8.7 percent compared to the same period last year. The revenues are a reflection of the profit mainly generated in the month before.

The number of overnight stays on the island during the months of February and March decreased, as well as the number of tourists residing on the island, as previously known. The number of residing tourists during the months of February and March decreased with respectively 7.7 and 13.3 percent compared to the same months in 2008. The number of overnight stays decreased with respectively 6.2 and 10.7 percent.

In addition, the number of cruise passengers in the month February decreased by 9.3 percent, according to the statistics from the Cruise Tourism Authority. There were also less cruise ships, approx. 23.1 percent less. According to the figures of the Central Bureau for Statistics, there was a decrease in the average occupancy of hotels and timeshare in February as well as in March of respectively 4.8 percent points to 83.7 percent, and 6.2 percent points to 78.8 percent, in comparison with the previous year.

Those in Aruba claim that the black cloud that surrounded the aftermath of the botched, incompetent and corrupt Natalee Holloway investigation has lifted. That it is safe to travel to Aruba. Really? Make no mistake about it potential tourists to Aruba, they can claim it is safe; however, when the time came to properly investigate a crime committed against a tourist, they did not.

Aruban authorities, investigators, tourism officials, government officials and media types all did their best to obstruct a criminal investigation. To this day, no one has been convicted or even tries for a crime. Even when incriminating statements have been made and even confessions. The last three people who Natalee was seen with leaving Carlos n’ Charlies, Joran Van der Sloot, Deepak Kalpoe and Satish Kalpoe all walk around as free men.

Aruba wants you to forget. Do not allow that to happen. Who is willing to take the chance that if “something bad happens” no one on Aruba is willing to do the right thing if the people connected to the crime, are connected.

The fact that their economy is floundering once again only goes to show that Natalee will haunt them forever until justice is served … “Justice for Natalee”.

The headline for this article is a bit misleading because the CBA article never mentioned Natalee Holloway. The drop in tourism that Aruba is experiencing right now is 100% attributable to the recession in the U.S., and it is pretty much in line with similar drops in tourism throughout the Caribbean (and better than drops in tourism experienced in Mexico and Hawaii). Anyone that thinks that Aruba’s economy is still being effected by the Natalee Holloway case is going to have a hard time explaining how Aruba set all-time records for stay-over visitors in 2007 and again in 2008.

Maybe the people of Aruba need to get on their authorities to do something about the Holloway case and apologize to the family of the victem instead of slamming them and covering up the facts. If they do not then Aruba will most likely have to change its name to ONE CRAPPY ISLAND.

      Loving Natalee – Beth Holloway
      .
Pages 209/210: Bad things happen everywhere. But the difference we need to consider when something bad happens outside the country is the help available for the victims and their families. When we leave these borders, we leave behind all the privileges and rights we’re all accustomed to and often take for granted. We have expectations that there will be a safety net of law-abiding official, no matter where we travel, or that our US embassy will come to our rescue. But that’s terribly naive.

No one in my family will go to Aruba until Natalee is found. Next year my twins will graduate high school, and Aruba is not an option for their senior trip. Most parents feel this way.

Arubans!! Your loved one may be the next Natalee Holloway. Exercise the rights afforded to you under a democracy … under Dutch Law by … peacefully but forcefully putting pressure on your elected representatives to do right by an 18 year old American citizen … to do right by her family and … to do right by all victims of crime. Aruban investigations must be free of conflicts of interest … conflicts of interest that prevent justice from prevailing.

    8. Michelle Smith on May 20th, 2009 9:39 am

Although I’d like to think that most of the downfall is due to the coverage of Natalee Holloway and the boycotting, I also believe that tourism is done due to the economy. Whatever the reason for the decline, I hope it continues until Natalee & her family have received Justice.

    9. dawg1948 on May 20th, 2009 10:12 am

      Michelle,

Ditto. You stated my exact sentiments in regards to the downturn and poor economy of Aruba. I don’t want a poor economy for potential customer countries such as the USA but I have no sympathy for Aruba. If the citizens cannot stand up for themselves and vistors to their country then they deserve what they get.

You know there can be a vast wilderness between what someone says and the actual truth. We know that for sure from examples like JVS, PVS and K2. I guess the only requirement on Aruba is to Lie all day!

They may have had the all time stay overs in 2007 and 2008 but, they don’t talk about how they had to slash the hell out of thier rates to get those counts. Now they have to work twice as hard for less money. I would be very interested in seeing a fact check on Aruba’s gross income for the months and years following June 2005.

Paulus says, “No Body, No Crime”
I say, “Give Aruba No Dime, until Joran Does Time”

#11, I know from first hand experience that hotel rates were not slashed in 2007 or 2008. If you want to see real data on actual gross and net income, go to the same website that SM cited in the article: the site of the Central Bank of Aruba. You may have to do some navigating to get back two and three years but the numbers are still there somewhere.

      #10 Donna,

Yes, no doubt you could be right. It is one of about 10 possibilities.
Others are: cremation, the landfill (my top one), gold mine, dumped at sea, shipped out of the country with another body, buried with another body.

Paulus had poured new cement around the pool area, and a sidewalk, soon after Natalee disappeared. There has always been speculation that Natalee was buried, and cement poured over. It was never dug up as far as I know. I never saw any ground penetrating radar either. I did see them sticking rods into the ground (what the heck!)

He (Paulus that is) may have poured concrete in the well at the same time.
I don’t know of any attempt to check the well out. I think they checked the cistern. I don’t know if they checked the neighbor’s or not, and I don’t know how long a body would last with certain massive amounts of corrosive chemicals poured into it. I think when they say, cistern, they are talking about a septic tank like thing. A cistern to Americans is a large fresh water-collecting tank, usually collecting water from rain. I don’t think that is what these cystrins are.

A lot of water wells are cased with PVC, etc, to the entire depth of the well. Older wells may not have any casing in them at all. I don’t know how deep the well is, but most probable in the 100 to 130 foot range.

If Natalee was placed in the well, and concrete poured over her, it would be difficult to recover her body. They would have to dig along he well, to the bottom, or possible drill the cement out. I guess they could take a core sample all the way to the bottom. If there were remains there, they could be seen in the core. Someone with some pulling unit or well plugging experience like so many in the oil fields would probable know.

Fullest involvement essential in fighting human trafficking, says Suriname OAS-ambassador

this report just weeks before natalee goes missing. So much for all the cooperation.washington just there for a photo- op?
Surinamese ambassador Henry Illes in his address at
      the ‘Regional Meeting on Counter-Trafficking
Strategies in the Caribbean’, Monday in Washington DC

      Caribbean Net News Suriname Correspondent
      Tuesday, March 15, 2005

PARAMARIBO, Suriname: Since trafficking in persons is a problem which transcends national borders, to be fully effective in fighting this form of crime the fullest involvement of government, international agencies, civil society and private sector is required, says Suriname ambassador to the OAS, Henry Illes.

Speaking at the opening of the ‘Regional Meeting on Counter-Trafficking Strategies in the Caribbean’ Monday in Washington DC the ambassador noted, that “no single country, in fact not even a region like ours, can eliminate this problem by acting alone”.

Therefore the region has no choice then to strongly join forces across national and regional borders. The Government of Suriname is highly committed to working with the Governments in the rest of the region, as well as regional and international organizations on the fight against trafficking in women and children, the diplomat stressed.

Human trafficking in The Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, the Netherlands Antilles, Saint Lucia and Suriname is center stage at the Organization of American States (OAS), where the aforementioned conference opened Monday morning with government officials and experts discussing counter-trafficking strategies and unveiling a ground-breaking study entitled, “Exploratory Assessment of Trafficking in Persons in the Caribbean Region.”

The historic meeting, a joint initiative of the OAS’ Inter-American Commission of Women and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) was called to assess progress and plan the follow-up to a research and training project on human trafficking in the seven Caribbean countries cited. The three-day conference marks the first time representatives from across the region are gathering to specifically address the question of trafficking in persons and to seek to develop a regional strategic approach to preventing and combating the problem.

Monday’s session, on the scope and nature of the problem in the Caribbean, opened with Suriname’s Permanent Representative to the OAS and Coordinator of the Caucus of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassadors, among those to outline their perspectives on the question. Branding human trafficking as a “form of modern day slavery,” Illes cited the connection to corruption as central to what he called “the global business of human trafficking.”

Human trafficking is increasingly becoming an alarming problem in the Caribbean. The magnitude of this form of modern day slavery impacts not only the individuals in the Caribbean nations, but “also has a severe influence on our societies as a whole”, said the Surinamese diplomat. Trafficking of women has reached alarming proportions and the burden of this evil has become more destructive than ever before.

Recent studies in the region have revealed that every year thousands of women and girls are recruited, transported, marketed and purchased by individual buyers, traffickers and members of transnational organized crime syndicates, who operate within Caribbean countries with the main purpose of sexually exploiting these women.

In his remarks ambassador Illes focused on the centrality of corruption to the global business of human trafficking as a very imperative aspect of this problem. According to analysis offered by international NGO working to combat trafficking in persons, the diplomat mentioned, that many citizens mistrust their local law enforcement, customs as well as immigration personnel, believing that some of them are highly corrupt.

“Undoubtedly, the fact is that corruption within governmental entities can contribute to the global trafficking in women and children in numerous ways”, he stressed, giving examples such as the issuance of counterfeit passports and visas to facilitate trafficking and payoffs of customs and immigration officers to look the other way, while conducting trafficking crimes.

Payoffs of local police officers in order to gain their tolerance of brothels in their jurisdictions or to allow individuals to recruit women for prostitution purposes is also common as is infiltration in prosecution institutions and other information gathering channels by organized crime groups.

“These examples clearly demonstrate how corruption, jointly with the availability of the technological and financial capacity of organized crime can cripple local law enforcement and immigration entities. It is therefore essential to create national, regional and hemispheric programs against corruption and the trafficking of human beings. We should make certain that our hemispheric program against corruption constitutes an important part of strategies to address those particular forms of organized crime such as the trafficking in persons,” said Ambassador Illes.

He further noticed that trafficking in persons has not spared the Caribbean. In fact as the current situation in many of the Caribbean countries demonstrates, he claims, it has become increasingly worrisome for many citizens and societies. “Indeed, Caribbean countries are vastly becoming the center of a growing sex tourism industry in our hemisphere.

The picturesque Caribbean region is also becoming a transit point for trafficked women on route to Western Europe”. Therefore a strongly committed cooperation is needed in order to effectively fight this transnational crime. In this endeavor government, international agencies and civil society should work closely together, ambassador Henry Illes advised.

And on the admission of foreign agencies, which Pietersz is that much more reticent to deal should have been. This is great investigative bodies such as the FBI, but also agencies such as recently by Dave Holloway, Natalee’s father, which was enabled on the island with a ranger was sought.
“They have no powers here. You should also double into, because you could own people to run and your feet so watch out for their own people not to move aside. “The PG has recently been with the American consul had spoken earlier and sent a letter so that the authorities in their own country at the height could make. The message is that Aruba is not some foreign, including American, investigation may operate without prior request to the PG. “So that in the Convention on Mutual Assistance between the United States and the Netherlands. forge forth with the justice Aruba will
never give to the Holloway family for Natalee.

A night stalker crew split up in hit teams of
threes and sixes. They used communications jammers
to kill all radar, cellphone & radio activity.

They leveled SETARNETS main communications hub. Nothing but ashes.

Next strike was the main power generating station
on the island. All Aruban electricity killed in
      one fell swoop! CLICK!

Even the Motel 6 was giving refunds to unsatisfied
customers because of false advertising. Tom Bodet could no longer guarantee he’d leave the light on
for you. It was sad, man. It almost made me cry
      but I didn’t. Instead, I shouted over a bullhorn:
      F the B****!

On to OPERATION CUT THE HEAD OFF OF A SNAKE

STRIKE 3 – The Van der sloot compound was blown
to smithereens with a shoulder fired missle. Much of the home was totalled and on fire, but there were still sharp shooters set up to shoot anything
seen running from the house, just in case. There were going to be absolutely no mistakes on this target. Everything breathing must die to achieve
the primary objective. No excuses allowed!

STRIKE 4 – Operation: TO KILL A FOCKING TURD

This was to be carried out exactly like TO KILL
A MOCKING BIRD, only we were going to do it twice,
and it would probably turn out completely different.

The team makes entry into the Kalpoe house, and to our surprise, Gerold Dompig was there in frilly
pink lacey underwear laying the nightstick to Nadira Kalpoe!!!! So we had no choice but to
blast him in his man titties with a high velocity
bean bag round. He asked if we could do that again
because he was sadistically aroused by it. We replied ‘negative’ and we restled his swiss cheese
ladden jiggly buttocks to the floor. Then we made him wear Nadira’s highheels and dance for the video cam siging the song “Tiny Dancer” by Elton
John. While he did that, two operatives made entry into Deepak & Satish’s room, they were shaking, sniveling and bawlin’ under their covers.
We pulled out two hangman nooses, and strung both
up from their rafters. This was done super brutally, so they will now know precisely what
Natalee Ann was feeling in her final few moments.
We dragged it out for MAXIMUM EFFECT. OVER! They were left swinging and wildly kicking from the rafters with all life being sucked out of their
puny under-developed bodies. On the way out, we
RPG’D the dookie out of the Kalpoe home, it now
looks like a homeless man’s box to sleep in, on the side of the road somewhere.

      STRIKE 5 – FINAL TARGET – Aruba’s Central Bank

All evil industries in Aruba are bank rolled
through this duplicitous septic tank full to
the brim of murder, bad blood, dirty cash and
      broken dreams.

It required 3 incindiary tank shells. When it finally blew sky high, you could see nothing
but fire and blood spewing out of it for miles.
At the very top a cloud formed and morphed into
the face of Satan. He was crying at all the wonton
destruction of his empire “Aruba – Devil’s Island”

Then a loud horn blew, and we all stopped dead
in our tracks. Over a loud speaker came a young
sweet sounding female voice, and it simply said:

Justice for Natalee / Boycott Aruba into the dirt.

Then I woke up! It was so weird. What does it all mean?

If Aruba would take responsibility for its crime over there and do what is right these three boys would not be walking free today. I hope they continue to decline in revenue. There was hard evidence, or maybe circumstantial but it was there and they did nothing but delay delay delay.I think the way you treated the Holloway family was horrid and I hope Natalie does come back and Haunt you one day. You know they say a soul can not rest until there is peace where they died, so you better bring peace to this young girl if you want to rest. I used to think we would be safe in most countries and I have traveled outside the US and am just thankful that I made it home. I think your laws need to change and change immediately. If your gonna remain a tourism country you must change them. I find it hard to believe that the locals knowed about this young man targeting young girls and the cops didn’t. Thats a bunch of bull-crap , you knowed it. You didn’t do anything to protect this girl or all the others he has raped.I wish the family could sue you for civil rights and wrongful death for not protecting her but I guess what is another autograph down the road. Ever since I awakened and saw this beautiful young girl spread across our nation MY soul has not rested and I want justice for her.Listen you three boys, you will pay for this. It may not be down here on earth but one day you will meet the lord and he will bring justice to you. Diane in Ga.

I agree with all of you… “Give Aruba no dime until Joran does time” I too have dreams about Natalee and its veryyy bizarre for me. Natalee & I are 3 days apart…and have so much in common from our birthdays being so close to having the same middle name to being interested in the same things.

I have to say…if I was Beth..I would charter that private plane again…go to wherever the little bastard Joran is…choke him with a belt until he almost dies, then stop, then beat him until he bleeding horribly…then choke him again…then I would throw him off a boat…get back in my plane and fly off that god forsaken island.

Honestly, if America would allow Aruba to bring her down there to stand trial…the American’s should come together and blow up the whole damn island….

Let me translate Van Der Slut’s confession:

We all three had forced sex with her on the beach. When she vowed to put us away. We strangled her and dumped her body in the swamp or off shore. I’m not really sure which it was since she wasn’t the first.

Thank you Aruba for the filthy coverup.

I think her body was either in a dumpster or put in a septic tank?
