PA Senator Arlen Specter: He Said, He Said … “I did not say I am a loyal Democrat”.

DINO – Arlen Specter

A tale of two comments from Arlen Specter: “I’m a loyal Democrat. I support your agenda.” …. “I did not say I am a loyal Democrat”. From RINO to DINO (Democrat in Name Only) in one week. Let the Democrats worry now about their new found ally Arlen Specter and that so-called 60th vote that they can count on. It would appear from Specter that he will be no more cooperative with Democrats than he was with Republicans. Guess who’s headache this is now?

Hmm, from the mouth of Arlen Specter on “Meet the Press” when David Gregory asked about health care. If one was going to be in the middle and not loyal to anyone, would not they run as an Independent?

GREGORY: It was reported this week that when you met with the president, you said, “I will be a loyal democrat. I support your agenda.” Let me test that on probably one of the most important areas of his agenda, and that’s health care. Would you support health care reform that puts up a government run public plan to compete with a private plan issued by a private insurance company?

SPECTER: No. And you misquote me, David. I did not say I would be a loyal Democrat. I did not say that. And last week, after I said I was changing parties, I voted against the budget because the budget has a way to pass health care with 51 votes, which undermines a basic Senate institution to require 60 votes to impose closure on key issues…. I did not say I am a loyal Democrat.

No, Arlen Specter simply switched parties because he read the handwriting on the wall and knew he would lose badly in the Republican Primary to Pat Toomey.  The only answer he had was to jump ship to the Democrats for his political survival, much like he did in the 1980’s when Specter became a Republican by jumping ship from the Dems. Makes one wonder about the Democratic politicians who wanted to be Senator of PA and how they feel about this turn of events. The LEFT is fit to be tied as they don’t want him either. Isn’t this generally the message to head home?

Spector has always been a low life. Anyone remember Ira Eihorn [sp?] He was the founder of the dumb Earth Day, and also he beat his girlfriend to death and put her body in a trunk. When finally discovered Spector defended this POS got him a low bail and Ira went of to Europe to avoid justice for many years.

yes, old arlene. can’t decide if he’s here or there, democrat or republican, man or woman. good democratic material.

What ever happened to being proud of being a democracy? Everytime we get a democratic president, they want to bash everything about him… but if you use the word Bush in any real, imaginable way (I mean, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what he did to us) we are called names and are accused of being liberal. Honestly, I don’t know which is left or right when it comes to politics… I agree with them both on many issues. The change is having a diplomat who can relate to people, as opposed to having an war monger who can’t even put two sentences together. Who would you trust? Besides, in many way’s the Republicans have betrayed what’s most important to the American people:

      Trust…

      .

oh, i forgot, this blog is a no-fact zone.

Specter is a nice guy, he just has no
concept of what it means to be a
      Conservative. Republican…maybe,
but Conservative, no. Right now he
is faced with employment issues that
drive his alliances. Mostly, his alliances
are with himself, not necessarily with
      the People.

Please hand the guy the dice!

    8. Susan on May 4th, 2009 6:22 pm

Phil, I mean Arlen Specter is your everyday, run of mill politician, no matter which party he affiliates himself with. We’ve had a few “flip floppers” in recent years, but it’s sad when a politician changes parties just to win an election. Let’s hope the fine folks in PA vote Republican, Independent, anything but democrat! The people of PA are not STUPID…

Damn, I haven’t watched TV in days. I get all my news right here at SM…lol. Anybody seen the remote?

    9. Susan on May 4th, 2009 6:28 pm

and to top it off, we got bad news at the office today :-( Three million over budget! I blame Osama bin Laden Barack Saddam Hussein Obama, Joe “potty mouth” Biden, and Phil, I mean Arlen Specter…

    10. Greg the mongoose on May 4th, 2009 7:31 pm

Arlen Specter has been a senator for 29-years.
Enough! Should be term limits on Senators. Two terms! See what the Kennedy’s and Specter’s have done to this country! Both have had brain cancer.
They should step down for younger, stronger, smarter people. No they will never do that. Why because they do not care about the people they represent. Your all SHEEP…

    11. Nancy on May 4th, 2009 7:41 pm

I hope he loses the election altogether no matter what party he is affiliated with. He has never really been a Republican anyway. I don’t know his history, but didn’t he start out as a Dem?

I’m an Independent, although I definitely have Repub. leanings. I say “Good Riddance” altogether from Congress.

It’s a New Day, Arlen, and it’s time for YOU to retire. It’s so scary in this country right now that we need SERVANTS in Congress committed to the PEOPLE who elected them, not their own re-elections via party hopping.

      Buhbye, Arlen.

    12. Dolf on May 5th, 2009 5:02 am

      3 mil. over budget Susan?

      damn

is it to blame on higher then expected costs or did the person who made the budget didn’t calculate properly?

or do you work for the goverment (that would explain a) the overbudget and b) the miscalculation)

    13. Just Bearly on May 5th, 2009 8:08 am

I do not think a whole lot of voters like either party right now. Choices we are given are largely spend, spend, spend, and No, No, No.

Re #9- more like three trillion over budget

    14. Scott on May 5th, 2009 9:44 am

Why doesn’t he go stick a syringe in Roger Clemens and STFU?

As have the Democrats. Both parties have let the American People down.

      #4. Caesu
Correct; it was not the ’80s. When it happened is a side issue, why is more important. Why did Arlen switch? The answer could be interesting.

He’s jumped ship, again. This time he could land in hot water, between ships–without a rubber raft.

Crumbs for the Constituency . . . he’s good at it. I hope the rest of the Constituency knows to check for mold before eating.

    16. Susan on May 5th, 2009 6:06 pm

#12 Dolf – Yep, 3 million over budget! We are now under a hiring freeze, no training, no travel, 300 overhires have to go, etc. And just when I was looking forward to another trip to the Northeast :-( Damn is right!

I plead the fifth to your guesses ;-)

#13 Just Bearly – The company I work for isn’t 3 trillion in the hole, not yet anyway :-)

    17. Dolf on May 6th, 2009 1:42 am

      that sucks Susan

    18. Susan on May 6th, 2009 12:56 pm

Yes it does, Dolf! It’s all Obama/Biden fault, too!!

    19. HOPE on May 6th, 2009 2:58 pm

      Hey Susan…

Maybe you need to write to the Treasury in Iraq, they’ve had a surplus every year with plenty of money… maybe they’ll make your employer a loan. Wouldn’t that be nice? Or you could try writing to George Bush, word is his trust fund is full to the rim! Maybe he could pass around the collection plate among his cronies, that is, if he can fit you in between the baseball games and his trips to Florida.

      Sucks to be poor….

      :(

    20. Dolf on May 6th, 2009 4:07 pm

k, Susan, you lost me there

please explain how it is there fault

    21. Susan on May 6th, 2009 7:24 pm

Hey Hopeless – Why don’t you mind your own f*cking business?

    22. HOPE on May 7th, 2009 4:04 am

      Hey Susan!

If you didn’t post your personal business on a blog, no one would have their noses in it!

    23. Scott on May 7th, 2009 7:41 am

Hope – you are a crazy lunatic. You have everything a$$ backwards as you live in your own little warped mind.

War mongerer? Did you have anybody affected by 9/11? What proof do you have that Bush’s “trust fund” is full? More typical liberal un-original LIES! He’s not in office anymore so if he wants to go baseball games and Florida, so be it. If he wants to bend you over and shove a tree up your a$$ he can do that too, then you might understand what really is torture.

You obviously are oblivious to the KNOWN FACT that the MSM is so far left its ridiculous. Their sole job is too attack conservatives and try to tell Americans it’s wrong to be a conservative.

Obama can relate to the people? Really? He’s an elitist. Do you think his comments about the special olympics resonated with the people? Do you think his “quatro de Mayo” comment resonated with the people?

Have you noticed that Obama ran his campaign to the middle, but once in office has moved further to the left? Proof’s in the pudding!

You are another loser liberal who do not know the facts with your blame Bush at all costs mantra. LOL! You probably are some snot nosed 24 year old “know it all” whose been spoon feed liberal agendas in school.

The fact is the HOUSING market was the main clog in this recession. The housing problems were created under Bill Clinton and Frank and Dodd in Congress with their crooked ties to Fannie, Freddie and “Friends of Angelo” Countrywide!

Wake up, get off your psych meds and come back to reality dummy!

    24. Susan on May 7th, 2009 12:02 pm

Hopeless – If I wanted your input (opinion, advice, etc.), I’d ask for it, but I DON’T, soooooooooooo STFU!!

You are NOT qualified to give anyone any type of advice. For starters, you have to have a brain to render advice, which you DO NOT, therefore you DON’T count :-)

    25. Ray on May 7th, 2009 11:59 pm

Is he loyal to anything other than HIMSELF???

    26. Dolf on May 8th, 2009 5:16 am

ofcourse Bush his trust is full.

was never empty in the first place.

you have to be a millionaire to become US president.

[...] Former Senator Arlen Specter (PA-D-R-D) actually performed in a Philly night club as a comedian last night. Honestly, some of this stuff was rather funny, although his delivery had a lot to be worked on.  As a politicians who switched parties depending on which way the wind blew rather than any core conviction, the joke was usually always on us.
