Some Politicians Think Its Wrong to Take a Pay Raise in Economic Meltdown … Rep. Jim Matheson Says its Unconscionable
Some one in Congress has a heart and a brain …
I guess we should real reassured that there are one or two politicians who think it is entirely wrong to take a pay raise in the teeth of an economic meltdown as people lose their homes, income and jobs. That is correct, Congress will get an automatic pay raise, yet say nothing to prevent it from occurring. “We the People” are down-sized as politicians “super-size” their salaries at our expense. As if most politicians are not burden enough on the tax payers, we have selfish politicians telling others what their pay should be while they increase their own. How could anyone in good conscience accept a pay raise?
How simple could it be for Congress to have a simple vote to state that they will not take a pay raise. While they are at it, why don;t they further help the American tax payer and take a pay cut. These are the same people who rail on CEO’s for being paid bonuses and stock options for doing nothing. What exactly has Congress done lately that has benefited the country? Hmm?
Despite the country’s economic meltdown, Congress is about to receive an automatic $4,700 pay raise on Thursday — a 2.8 percent increase over the current $169,300 salary for most members.
Rep. Jim Matheson says that is unconscionable, and he’s vowing to renew his annual fight to stop such automatic raises. He says the bad economy might just help him win this year, and a government watchdog group is joining his battle to say the raise is a bad idea in such times.
Scared Monkeys says goodbye to one of their most beloved Monkeys …
Scared Monkeys would like to take a moment to say goodbye to a dear friend. We were saddened to learn yesterday that Peaches, a dear and treasured member of Scared Monkeys for so may years has passed away from cancer. Our hearts and prayers go out to her husband, her daughter, her family and all those people here who remember Peaches for her kindness and courage.
Today I am saddened by our loss; however, I know that heaven is a much better place with her presence. I never met PEACHES, I only know her through her words, emails and the kind and insightful things she had to say. I know her for the people who’s lives she touched. I know her for the inspiration and courage that she showed all of us. I know her for her kind spirit that will be missed.
However, I know that she brings that spirit to a much better place and is now sharing it with so many that have passed on before her. God has taken home one of the best. In the face of pain and struggle, Peaches smile and zest for life shined above all. I have covered and wrote about so much pain, anguish and death over the years, yet few posts have ever been more difficult to write than this when we lose one of our own. One of the truly good and gifted people that one would ever know. Whether we know someone in person or over the internet, when one meets one of the good one’s, you know it in an instant. Thank you Peaches for sharing yourself with Scared Monkeys, it was so very appreciated.
If you never knew Peaches, take a moment to go here and learn about what a phenomenal woman she was. If you knew Peaches, please take a moment to check out what many others are saying about our dear friend in her passing. To know what some one is about is not to hear them talk, but is to listen what others have to say about them. Peaches, you were special and will be missed.
Peaches, you are in a much better place away from the pain. May the peace of the Lord provide you eternal peace. Until we meet again and the next time will be in person, you will be fondly remembered by all of us and your spirit will always remain here at Scared Monkeys.
Rest in peace my friend, you are truly a special person and loved by all.

- Dana discusses the honor and shame of Bernard Kerik
Her name is the sole reason she even dares go for it. Camelot must be Gaelic for chutzpah.
Why does our Congress and Senate have such low approval ratings? Is is because Americans are tired of the fact that these people literally do nothing effective. Tired of the privilege and entitlement. Long ago politicians forgot what it meant to do the work of the people. Maybe it is because when it comes to privilege these candidates never were “the people”. Maybe part of the problem is that we do not elect the best people for the job.
We complain about entitlement and then along comes Caroline Kennedy for Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat and all is supposed to change because her only qualification is that she is a Kennedy. We are supposed to all be in awe of the Kennedy name, drop to out knees and pray toward Hyannisport and the Kennedy compound. Are Senate seats supposed to be about entitlement? Clearly, Caroline Kennedy is not ready for prime time.
Some top Democrats were certain Gov. Paterson, a close-to-the vest electorate of one, would find Kennedy irresistible now and as a running mate in two years. All others were chopped liver next to her sudden star power.
But a strange thing is happening on the way to the coronation. The wheels of the bandwagon are coming off. Fantasy is giving way to inescapable truth.
That truth is that Kennedy is not ready for the job and doesn’t deserve it. Somebody who loves her should tell her.
Her quest is becoming a cringe-inducing experience, as painful to watch as it must be to endure. Because she is the only survivor of that dreamy time nearly 50 years ago, she remains an iconic figure. But in the last few days, her mini-campaign has proved she has little to offer New Yorkers except her name.
Talk about failing your job interview. Here is a hint to all job seekeers during your interview, do not ever use the phrase, “you know”. As Hot Air states, ‘The more you know about Caroline…’

Honestly, what is the difference between what is going on in Illinois with Blagogate, fee for Obama Senate seat, as opposed to what is perceived as a quit pro quo Ted Kennedy endorsement to Barack Obama? What is a Kennedy family endorsement worth to a Democratic Presidential candidate? I would dare say more than $1 million. So we ask ourselves, what are the qualifications of Caroline Kennedy to be Senator?
Scared Monkeys Radio Daily Commentary – Monday, December 29, 2008 – “Obamalot” Begins To Bristle Under Pressure From The Media
- Dana wonders if Barack Obama realizes what’s ahead in regards to media coverage of his every move.
Obama bristles as the bubble closes in … Change you can believe in, dissing the Presidential media pool reporters. Barack Obama is in for a long four year if this is how he is going to react to the glare of the media. Obama has not even been officially sworn in as President and he is having issues.
