The Duggar Family: The More the Merrier as the Duggar’s Welcome Child number 18, Jordyn-Grace Makiya Duggar

File this one under truth is stranger than fiction and you just can’t make this stuff up …

You heard of the TV show “Eight is Enough,” well add 10 to that and you have the Duggar family. The cable network TLC broadcasts a weekly show about the Duggars, called “Seventeen and Counting” … so maybe 18 is not enough. I guess we will have to check back in 10 to 12 months.

Most families celebrate their child’s 18th birthday as a special event. However, in the Duggar family 18 now represents the number of children for Jim Bob Duggar said Michelle Duggar. That is correct, Michelle Duggar, 42,  gave birth last Thursday evening to her eighteenth child, a baby girl Jordyn-Grace Makiya Duggar. The Duggar’s have 10 sons and 8 daughters. WOW!!!

Michelle Duggar delivered the baby girl by Caesarean section Thursday at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. The baby, named Jordyn-Grace Makiya Duggar, weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 inches long.

“The ultimate Christmas gift from God,” said Jim Bob Duggar, the father of the 18 children. “She’s just absolutely beautiful, like her mom and her sisters.”

The Duggars now have 10 sons and eight daughters.

The other Duggar children, in between Joshua and Jordyn-Grace, are Jana, 18; John-David, 18; Jill, 17; Jessa, 16; Jinger, 14; Joseph, 13; Josiah, 12; Joy-Anna, 11; Jeremiah, 9; Jedidiah, 9; Jason, 8; James, 7; Justin, 6; Jackson, 4; Johannah, 3; and Jennifer, 1.

Just wondering what do they do for a living to support all these children?

    2. brie. on December 22nd, 2008 2:59 pm

I don’t know what they do for a living but it’s going to take a bundle…

They own their own business and there is a tv show that documents their lives. They are very conservative (In other words, they DO NOT live off the governement to raise their children).
Here is their website if curious.

so many children starving all over the world! then come these freaks having 20 kids living off the fat of the land.
did you see their house BUN?
i don’t care how much money they make, where they get it from. they can have millions of dollars for all i care. there is no way these kids get the real parental attention every child needs. thoxe kids are nothing but their little slaves!
i am sure the kids will turn out to be the freaks their parents are.
religuous? they better think again, if they only had a brain!

I have done the math if each of their children have 18 children, and their children have 18 children, and on, and on,, By the year 3000 the planet will be overtaken by Duggars. :-)

      Comrade Donna orates…
“so many children starving all over the world! then come these freaks having 20 kids living off the fat of the land.”

I must say that Chairman Mao would have been and Kim jong Mentally Il would be proud to hear those word coming from her.

      Oh well,
      drum roll please…

Another clown is born on Scared Monkeys!!!

Congratulations, Donna, you made the grade.

God bless the loving Duggar family. Thanks, Julie, for the link.

sounds like some kind of cooperative breeding battery cage.
this kind of excessive over breeding should be discouraged by some carbon footprint tax.

looking at their site i bet they are all home schooled brainwashed for further breeding purposes.

i hope they all turn out ok.
because often there are hidden dark secrets within such large ultra-religious families.

I feel badly for their children… IMO they don’t have much of a childhood. That doesn’t make their choices wrong though. Just not the life for me. I’ll be perfectly content with a husband, 2.5 kids, dog, and house with picket fence (that isn’t in arkansas).

I think it’s admirable that they live debt-free. Better to have 18 kids you can support than one you can’t.

      Caesu:

      Laugh out Loud!

      .

Sometimes there can be too much of a good thing?

But for some, they do the simple things for their God. Loving God is being obedient to Him, observing his commandments and it not being a burden for you. Afterall, the first commandment made to man was to fulfill the earth, subdue it and become many. That’s all he asked. There was no religion… simply obeying God in a perfect garden of Love. Adam, who’s job it was to name all the animals and Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jonah, David and, even, King Solomon were ‘friends’ of God. And, they all came under the line of Jehovah’s promised seed who was Jesus.

All His ways are just and true.

There’s nothing wrong with teaching your children. Besides, the Greatest Gift you can, ever, give a child is God! They are to have His laws written in their hearts.

thanks for that sermon, it’s very touching.

      Donna and Caesu,
The Duggers have done a horrible job raising kind, smart, respectful, drug free, hardworking and able to think for themselves kids when they could of had just one or two mean, drugged up , sexually active, disrespectful children that the world expects of children these days. I think maybe you two could also take a lesson in manners from the Duggers and stop being so intolerant of other peoples families and view points.

    14. Richard on December 22nd, 2008 10:21 pm

They certainly look like a decent lot; let’s wish them the best.

I hope that the parents can keep straight who is who. Doing the laundry and getting the clothes back to the right kid … well, anyway, I bet that their tax returns aren’t too onerous. They have as many deductions, I suppose, as the Big Three.

    15. Richard on December 22nd, 2008 10:22 pm

The mother is 42, and she’s had 18 kids. Judging from the photo, she’s still in great shape.

    16. Lobham on December 22nd, 2008 11:19 pm

These people are sick and selfish. I commend them for not mooching off the government to support themselves, but if they want a huge family why couldn’t they adopt some kids who need a good home?

3 or 4 of their own? Even 5, sure. Then adopt a dozen other kids who need a loving home and make a difference instead of being so selfish!!!!!

    17. HOPE on December 23rd, 2008 1:42 am

      Caesu was only joking!

We’re friends from way back :)

    18. Miss-Underestmated on December 23rd, 2008 11:29 am

As a child from a family of 12 God has blessed them indeed. Some of you sound like a the “anti-family” regime of the 80′s. If they are not asking you to take care of them, then it is none of your effin business.

    19. txchic on December 23rd, 2008 1:14 pm

well i for one am not going to judge the duggar’s for their choices. they’re able to support their family physically as well as emotionally so more power to them. as julie stated they’re not raising self centered & immoral little creeps why all the commotion over it?

that’s what distinguishes this country from most… we don’t have a government making personal decisions on our behalf.

    20. Susy Q on December 23rd, 2008 4:31 pm

Even if they do have their own business with that size family they would easily qualify for medicaid. It is one thing to have enough funds for food and shelter but medical treatment is a pricy matter for so many.

    21. Miss-Underestimated on December 23rd, 2008 9:09 pm

      21. I think you are wrong you may want to check that out. If he is self employed he carries his own medical coverage, and if he is that successful he more than likely has an HSA account. You don’t qualify for medicaid because you have a big family.

    22. Suzee on December 23rd, 2008 10:28 pm

There is no way that having this many children is the right thing to do. I think that it should be quality over quantity. Just because you can have 20 kids doesn’t mean you should, it is just not responsible. With each birth she runs the risk of a having a challenged child and then what?

They do seem like a cult. Wait till they get out in the real world, if they don’t ever stop haivng chores to do.

    23. Miss-Underestmated on December 24th, 2008 9:40 am

Suzee, I’ll take it a step further. Nobody should have any children unless they are perfect, blonde hair blue eyes and male ofspring, sound familiar????

Do you people ever listen to yourselves??? Thank God, our government isn’t up to your standards…..yet.

    24. ANewGirl on December 24th, 2008 9:46 am

An amazing story, and I wish them the best.

But–to Michelle Duggar—nof for anything but they’re called Birth Control Pills, Honey. Give it a shot!

      =)

    25. HOPE on December 25th, 2008 1:46 am

I agree with Ms. Underestimated. Last time I checked people were free to have as many babies as they like, provided they are able to care for and nourish them. From the looks of it, they have gone much farther than that, in their care for them and they all love one another.

These are not the children we need to worry about. The best friends I’ve ever had, came from large families. They learn social skills at a very young age and are usually very intelligent. So give it a break.

These people are not a cult… they’re a large family with the art of raising kids. Live and let live – imo

    26. parker on January 12th, 2009 1:23 pm

These people are a part of the Bill Gothard Cult. This is not a desire to have children- but a religious belief that they shouls have children and as many as possible. It is dangerous and disgusting.

    27. Tina on August 11th, 2009 11:48 pm

They are NOT part of a cult! UGH!!! If that’s what you think, then what do you call the public school system??? Day in and day out for 18 YEARS (plus with preschool) children are thrown together with others their own age and indoctrinated with who knows what!!! Hmmm…seems kind of cultish to me.
Really, when you think about it, the Duggars are very wise and are investing in the lives of their children. It’s a HUGE sacrifice. They have many hours with their children, more than the public schooled children get from their parents! Public schooled children come home after being gone all day and have homework, watch tv, play computer/video games, spend time with their friends….hmmmm….
Read their book!…”The Duggars, 18 and Counting.” What an incredible blessing they are and oh so real! FYI…they use the Wisdom Booklet Set through the Advanced Training Institute to homeschool their children. It helps to teach godly character and Bible principles throughout the varying subjects, which is so lacking in the public school system. It’s a great way to teach larger families all at one time too! By teaching them this way they are able to raise respectable, SELF-THINKING, creative ADULTS who know how to care for themselves and others!!! Children are not meant to be children always! We are to raise them in the way they should go so that when they are old they will not depart from it. The Duggars are giving their children an adventure of a lifetime! MOST impotantly, the Duggars are able to teach their children about faith in Jesus through their daily lives as they pull together as a family with a common goal…glorifying God!
