Why We Hate Congress and Their Approval Ratings are at 9% … Economy in Tatters and Congress Gets a Pay Raise

Is the economy really as bad as Congress is telling us or do they just not give a S%&T Let_them_eat_cakeabout “We the People”? How out of touch can these people possibly be? Congress to to their constituents … LET THEM EAT CAKE!

How sad and pathetic that we have law makers and members of Congress that could care less about “We the People”. With our economy in shambles, the mortgage industry crumbling, auto makers floundering, two million people unemployed and Congress outright demanding that corporate CEO’s freeze their salaries, what does Congress do …?

Congress in their infinite wisdom give themselves a pay raise of $4,700 a year. This will amount to a $2.5 million extra added expense to the tax payers. I am truly glad that members of Congress feel it not in their need to share the pain that the average tax payer has as a burden. Instead of practicing what they preach in telling corporate officers to freeze their wages, Congress piles on the tax payers. How on earth do members of Congress take pay raises when their constituents are in financial peril, unemployed or both?

“As lawmakers make a big show of forcing auto executives to accept just $1 a year in salary, they are quietly raiding the vault for their own personal gain,” said Daniel O’Connell, chairman of The Senior Citizens League (TSCL), a non-partisan group. “This money would be much better spent helping the millions of seniors who are living below the poverty line and struggling to keep their heat on this winter.”

However, at 2.8 percent, the automatic raise that lawmakers receive is only half as large as the 2009 cost of living adjustment of Social Security recipients.

Still, Steve Ellis, vice president of the budget watchdog Taxpayers for Common Sense, said Congress should have taken the rare step of freezing its pay, as lawmakers did in 2000.

There is a reason why Congress has a 9% approval rating. That just does not happen by accident, one must earn it.

UPDATE I: Vice President-Elect Joe Biden Says the Economy will Implode if you Don’t Pass Obama’s Stimulus Package

With Biden creaming that the sky is falling and that the economy is in much worse shape than they ever thought, wouldn’t it be incumbent upon Congress to freeze their wages rather than further add more of a burden to tax payers? Is there really an economic meteor about to hit the Earth as Hot Air points out, or is this just lip service to give Obama anything he wants … fear mongering? Didn’t Democrats accuse GWB of doing this with terrorism? Some thing does not add up as one side is predicting gloom and doom while Congress is getting a raise.

Vice President-Elect Biden stated in an exclusive interview with George Stephanopoulos that the “U.S. economy is in danger of ‘absolutely tanking’ and will need a second stimulus package in the $600-billion to $700-billion range”. WOW, really Joe? The economy is in bad shape, where have you been since the election but in hiding? As Wizbang so aptly states, the economy is in bad shape … Say it ain’t so, Joe. What was your first clue?

“The economy is in much worse shape than we thought it was in,” Biden told me during an exclusive interview — his first since becoming vice president-elect–  to air this Sunday on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”

“There is no short run other than keeping the economy from absolutely tanking. That’s the only short run,” Biden told me.

#2, there are women in there too.

It really shows us common folk just how much they really just give us lip services and do not care a rat’s a$$ about us. Unless they want our vote.

Shouldnt they provide this pay raise before we vote?

Wait! What? I thought the dems were all about helping the poor.

All they care about is how much money they can milk from the tax payers. What a disgusting display of greed. How do these losers sleep at night?

      on a more positive note:

approval index of Barack Hussein Obama is going very well!

a few more weeks before the new progressive / liberal Congress starts and soon after that Barack Obama gets sworn in. :)

SM: Hate to burst your bubble but all Presidents start out with the benefit of the doubt in approval rating.

However, a funny thing happened on the way to the forum … Obama’s #’s may be more inflated due to Republicans than Dems. He is actually pissing off the Left and the pick of Warren for the Inauguration has really chapped some libs.

Who knew Obama was a Republican.

Also … FYI, with long links go to http://www.tinyurl.com to shorten them so you do not blow out the page. Thanks!

The saddest part is that the American people voted these people in and will continue to vote them in. I guess we deserve what we get (sadly)

#7, You are correct. That is why I believe on term limits for all politicians to save us from ourselves and their BS.

If we really wanted change we would have vted in a whole new Congress as well. That meant Reps and Dems go bye, bye barring maybe 5.

True, they vote themselves pay raises … but look at the quality of congressmen that we get. They’re as honest as the day (Dec. 22, the shortest day of the year) is long.

Problem is, we the people have been indoctrinated in the idea that the solution to everything comes from the government … the more government, the better … and that Washington knows best.

I don’t know how to do it, but I think our best hope is to reverse course. To do this, the powers of the federal government should be restricted to those things that only it can do (national defense, interstate commerce, environmental protection, etc.) and let the states take care of the rest.

      As they are supposed to.

and the benediction is done by Joseph Lowery who advocated for LGBT civil rights and supports same-sex marriage.

and just watch the approval ratings of the new Congress.
these ‘obstruction first, country last’ Republicans have been blocking progress and dragging the numbers downwards for two years now.

with one or two RINO’s included the progressives/liberals have a nice filibuster-proof majority. :)

If you really want to vote a difference check out the constitution party. We cant be afraid to vote in the people who really are good but not republican or democrat and just do the right thing and trust God with the results. R and Ds mostly have the same socialist agenda.

      Greetings:

Perhaps we should have an award for the First Woman Speaker of the House to achieve single-digit approval ratings.

i certainly hope the people running against these pigs will use their votes for a pay raise on every ad they run.

      this makes me ill…

My family is the product of slaves. We have lived in Alabama for generations. New ideas have given me the chance to live as a free man. My grandfather had two sayings he liked very much:

You cant solve a problem using the same thinking that caused it.

You can dress a pig in a suit and tie and ya still have a pig.

That is our problem! We keep electing people from the same parties with the same ideas repackaged to look new. These people don’t care about anything but gaining more power over you and taking mor of your money.
