Aruban Justice: 2 1/2 Year Jail Sentence for G.W. Anthony who Shot a Man at Havana, Other Goes Free on Lack of Evidence

Aruban justice: different crime, similar results???

21 year old G.W. Anthony who shot a man at Havana, received 2½ years in jail while suspect G.J. Raven went free, due to lack of evidence. Interestingly enough, Anthony was convicted due to the fact that he had provided the police several different stories during declarations. Sound familiar? So much for a uniform system of justice applied by the judges in Aruba. If multiple stories in decalarations are the standard for guilt and innocence in Aruba … Joran Van der Sloot, Deepak and Satish Kalpoe would be presently serving time for the disappearance of missing Natalee Holloway. Why was this case different?

The only evidence came from the mouth of Anthony self, but the judge dismissed that, especially because Anthony has given the police several variant declarations.

The prosecutor assumed that Raven had given Anthony the gun and the two tried to disguise the truth by giving contradictory declarations. Raven’s lawyer requested that his client is acquitted because of this. That he had lied in the beginning is because he was afraid. The judge considered it proven that Anthony had shot the victim R.A. Reid

2½ Years for the person that pulled the trigger in Havana
(June, 28 2008 Amigoe)

ORANJESTAD – The 21-year old G.W. Anthony that shot a man at Havana, received 2½ years jail. Suspect G.J. Raven went free, due to lack of evidence.

Reid.

This case has caused a lot of commotion in the society, said the judge. The idea is not that people walk around with guns and shoot each other, like in Curacao. The OM has demanded 3 years and the judge gave him 2½, due to his clean record and his age. Anthony lived in the Netherlands at the time of the shooting, where he was going to school. He was in the process of building a successful soccer career.

Oh my God!! The tragic, devastating mystery of Natalee’s disappearance and those responsible (YES, Urine and Paulass van der Slut and Deepuke and Satan K(Alpoe – arf, arf), you know who I’m talking about) spins around over and over and over again…

Talking about history REPEATING itself :-( It never stops on the third world, poverty stricken, lawless, drug infested Dutch protectorate of Aruba!! Those freaking “Keystone Koppers”, etc., are at it again…

Now ya see, this is precisely why I envision

the Sloots and the Poes getting it hardcore.

      Who wants to

go through all this Aruban crap of which nutshell

Lady Justice is under? Especially, when murderers

that they have dead to rights only get 2 1/2 years

for robbing someone of their life.

Hey, Joran was/is a soccer enthusiast as well.

These two ought to get together and start working on forming a team … I suggest that “the Aruban Felons” ought to go well, and is appropriate.

So he shoots a guy and gets all of three years (that figure ‘three’ seems to recur again and again when it comes to Aruba). I don’t remember if the shooting was fatal … does anyone else?

Wonder what happens when they get tough. Well, if I really want to know I can go down there with my “Boycott Aruba” and “Justice for Natalee” T-shirt on. Now THAT would be a real threat to society, wouldn’t it … at least to tourism?

Probably get a minimum sentence of 20 years, no parole application, and be kept bound and gagged in prison for fear that I might say something nasty about Aruba and hurt its tourism business.

    6. richard on June 30th, 2008 4:46 pm

I wonder if G.J. Raven, the guy who went free, strolled over to Carlos ‘n’ Charlies (whatever its current name might be) to celebrate? Seems like the natural hangout for Aruban scum.

    7. MissKatie on June 30th, 2008 5:26 pm

      Richard
they can change the name from carlos & charlies to whatever… the place is still the same inviroment same drug atmosphere…soon the word gets around…

    8. Sasha on June 30th, 2008 6:30 pm

The name has changed to senor frogs which is still the same company as Carlos & Charlies and it is WORST than ever before. I can not believe some of the horrible behavior they promote there and also some of the losers and the drug dealers that hangout there. That’s all there is there, FIGHTS, KNIVES, DRUGES, AND GUNS.

    9. LilPuma on June 30th, 2008 6:34 pm

So Anthony and Raven thought they’d pull a Slootie and tell different stories. But I’m not sure I understand this part:

“The only evidence came from the mouth of Anthony self, but the judge dismissed that, especially because Anthony has given the police several variant declarations.

Reid. ”

The only evidence was something Anthony said, but the Judge dismissed it because they both lied. Then Raven’s attorney asks for a dismissal based on that and since Anthony’s attorney didn’t, he’s in jail. Maybe something was lost in translation?

To top it all off, the guy says he lied because he was scared. Right out of the mouths of Joran and Joe Tacopina.

Whatever went down, Aruban authorities seem to have set a very dangerous, deadly precedent.

    10. Maggie on June 30th, 2008 6:45 pm

Why in the world would anyone go to this place anymore.. 2 and a half years for shooting someone?
We all know why they lie, of course they are scared.. Scared of doing time for murder and scared of people finding out what they did.

Everytime I think about the farce of an investigation and the farce of people involved in it, presented to Natalee’s family it makes me sick. They know what happened to Natalee.. 2 confessions of something bad happened.. Being the last people with a person who is never seen again on a small island and all the lies they have put 2 countries through for 3 years, unbelievable. Friends investigating friends and family. Their biggest lie, we want the truth to come out, we hope the truth comes out, and yet keep on lying. I would love to hear them all under oath explaining this farce. How about Steve Cohen, 2 of the 3 said they had sex with Natalee.. We expect they will be charged with murder and rape. They did something terrible with your daughter.

Richard, thanks and didn’t see your comment about Adams, Ky until a few ago.. Looked it up and see nothing but real estated listed for Adams. Robertson county is either the smallest or 2nd smallest.. Last battle of Revolution fought there.. I’m curious as to what it is.. Had a great time, seen lots of things in such a short time. The Parthenon, built just like the one in Greece..only cement pillars instead of marble. It is awesome. Art inside is great. It’s a must see in person. Doors are brass, and weight 7.5 tons a piece. Went to the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Opry Mill mall..ate in a rainforest.. it was cool, went to the Dukes of Hazzard Museum, a wax museum, spent an evening on Music Row..wild horse saloon, bb kings blues club, legends, tootsies lounge(saw Cher there),Belmont Mansion, Belle Meade plantation, Andrew Jackson’s 1,100 acre home..it is beautiful. Was always here and there close to it, but never went, glad I did. Only thing I didn’t like is the rooms have glass doors over them, not allowed to go in them, have to walk on commercial carpet to preserve the floors. Tornado hit it in 1998 tore out lots of tulip trees Andrew Jackson planted over 200 years ago, they used them to make a limited edition of Gibson (I think)guitars, they sold. Upstairs wall paper,, went bad, they painted , it looked bad so they decided to try to find the old wallpaper, put out ads, and some guy who worked for the Louvre in France said he thought he had some of it..They flew over and it was an exact match, so they brought it back and closed it for 2 months to do the wallpapering. It is air conditioned now to preserve it and they did add lights.. Beautiful place, so is the gardens that Andrew Jackson’s wife Rachel started. They are buried at the back of it, it has slave houses, and cotton fields. You can come help pick it when it’s ready and take some home. Anyway came back through Hendersonville, Tn and stopped to see Johnny Cash’s burial place. Best Western(Belle Meade) I stayed at was great..like a furnished apt.

    11. Allan on June 30th, 2008 6:49 pm

They only have evidence when you don’t have money to buy them off. $20.00 will work for murder.

Inconsistent declarations worked expceptionally well in Joran van der Sloots favor.

Considering G.W. Anthony is being held accountable for his actions … it is obvious that he did not have connections within the Aruban justice system.

COSBY: Now, did Joran—we‘ve heard from the family, Chief, that—you know, that Joran was claiming in some statement that she was going in and out of consciousness. Have you seen that anywhere?

DOMPIG: Yes. That‘s definitely in the statements, and that‘s why we were kind of disappointed when the judge didn‘t accept that because that‘s basically a felony in Aruba. We think that what happened was that the judge just didn‘t buy it the way—because Joran went back and forth with his statements, and he withdrew two statements which he had already given to us. So basically, none of his statements were really trustworthy.

MANSUR: Of course, they were friends. It stands to reason they were friends because Paul Van Der Sloot had many friends within the police department; he had many friends within the Department of Justice. And he had many friends with — and he was friendly with all the judges in Aruba. He worked out of the same office as they did and did the same work.

And Sasha, apparently you are living in Aruba. What are YOU doing to get justice for Natalee?

    20. richard on July 1st, 2008 6:48 am

I hope the Arubans are happy with their judicial system. It’s the poster child for those of us who urge people to boycott the place … who can look at Aruba since Natalee’s tour went there and feel anything but nausea?

It’s their problem, not ours … all that WE have to do is point out to people what goes on there, and if they can’t figure out what their own self-interest dictates for them to do … well, there are no guarantees in life.

Sasha, ignore the trolls. Do you get any sense that Arubans are fed up, or are they just resigned to what they feel is a situation that they can’t affect or change? Please keep posting reports.

Maggie (#10) — I’m glad that you had a good time.

I was referring to Adams, Tenn., not Adams, KY. (I don’t even know if there is an Adams in KY, but don’t see why not.)

Robertson County, Tenn., is on the Kentucky border. I imagine you’ve left the area now, and this is off topic anyway, but if you’re interested please contact me via moderator Klassen.

Incidentally, the Mammoth Cave is in Kentucky, not far from Tennessee, and is something that anyone in a position to visit should see. If you are interested in caves, anyway.

Don’t ever forget that in Aruba a life sentence is 10 years. Shoot and kill an Aruba Bank teller because she could not get the safe open fast enough and 10 years behind bars (THE TRUTH!)

Cheri Mac”Nut” is trashing Natalee and family non stop on Gretawire today. The thread with the orange egg timer. Can’t understand why Beth doesn’t sue the pants off her for insinuating she is misusing funds for her personal benefit, and all the other vile stuff she spouts.

    27. Maggie on July 1st, 2008 4:24 pm

Richard, my bad, I was looking for Adams, Ky. Found Adams, Tn and read about the Bell Witch. Also seen they have cave tours.. There is also a Robertson county in Ky. I’ve been to Ky. and Tn. many times, love that part of the country, so will check it out next time. Went to Mammoth Caves on a 4 hour tour about 2 years ago.. It is awesome. Underground boat tour on the Lost River in Bowling Green, Ky. is great too. Always find new and interesting things to see when we go.

Talk about repeating oneself. For 3 years we have been hearing we are working on Natalee’s case and not one damn thing has move forward since.. all 3 were turned loose in 2005. Just the occasional tv appearances by all lying again and another lying spokesman, but isn’t that what a cover up is all about?

Remember Natalee Holloway, she lost her life on her last night in Aruba May, 2005.. and while the Sloots and the Kalpoes were getting together to make up more lies, framing 2 men for kidnapping and murder, meeting others to see what they told the police, lying to police, leading the police on wild goose chases, hiding out and not searching, lying about the victim, lying about the condition of the victim, lying about where they took the victim, lying to the victim, lying to her parents, claiming something bad happened, claiming each other raped her, police not searching or questioning them, leading the family to crackhouses when Natalee wasn’t a drug user, meanwhile Natalee’s family and friends were up for days hoping, praying and searching for their daughter to return unharmed.

Natalee and her family owe Aruba nothing… Aruba owes them answers to what happened to their daughter and who did it, not paid liars and friends and family’s pretending to investigate each other and the very people in place to protect tourists hiding out so they don’t have to account for their actions the past 3 years.

10 years for murder..why am I not shocked?!

    32. Sasha on July 2nd, 2008 12:28 pm

      Richard,

Arubans are FED UP. That’s for sure. As for the Holloway case, every single Aruban thinks that Joran is the murderer. He is very much hated here and is not welcomed here. BUT, things are very very very slow here on the island. The tourism is down. The hotel occupancy is no more than 30% (on a good week). Most of this is being blamed on the bad economy in the States and high gas prices. I do agree with that point. However, I also believe Aruba is no longer safe anymore. Going to downtown is SCARY especially at nights. Drug dealers every where, fights and guns and knives every where. For a while, we were able to hide all this horrible things from the tourist, but now it’s obvious and they see it and they talk about it. Every week, a tourist gets robbed or their rental car gets stolen or broken in to. This stuff never happened here before. But now, it’s a constant problem.
