Barack Obama Denies Rumors of Infamous Michelle Obama “Whitey” Tape

Was it a denial that a tape exists or just more typical political skating around the truth? What ever happened to just saying …  it never happened?

Barack Obama states that the much discussed internet rumors of there being a Michelle Obama :whitey” tape are false. For Barack Obama’s sake he best hope that there is no such “whitey” tape or that no one got their hands on such a thing before they were destroyed. There are some Democratic pundits, namely Bob Beckel, that were very worried of the tape rumor and its existence.

Sen. Barack Obama on Thursday batted down rumors circulating on the Internet and mentioned on some cable news shows of the existence of a video of his wife using a derogatory term for white people, and criticized a reporter for asking him about the rumor, which has not a shred of evidence to support it.

“We have seen this before. There is dirt and lies that are circulated in e-mails and they pump them out long enough until finally you, a mainstream reporter, asks me about it,” Obama said to the McClatchy reporter during a press conference aboard his campaign plane. “That gives legs to the story. If somebody has evidence that myself or Michelle or anybody has said something inappropriate, let them do it.”

Asked whether he knew it not to be true, Obama said he had answered the question.

However, as Stop the ACLU reminds us there plenty of things regarding Obama that are not rumors that should raise a red flag regarding the presumptive nominee. Read that outrageous list HERE.

Obama rips reporter over question about Michelle tape rumor

However, as Barack Obama provides a political answer to the “whitey” tape question No Quarter asks why a political candidate did not come out with an absolute denial that no such tape exists.

But when a politician tap dances on nuance–Baby it is true. My sources have not backed off. They maintain they have a tape and will drop it on the Dems in the fall. Now if Barack said, “No, and hell no” I would be wondering about my sources. But he punted. He went for the weasel word. The non-denial denial.

Obama best hope that this so-called “whitey” tape is an internet rumor only. Obama’s answers to the question are hardly going to make the story go away. What might be most telling is that Democratic operatives when first told of the story did not just quickly come out and deny it as a complete and totally false rumor. The fact that they entertained the idea that it could possibly be true is rather telling. And why not, after what Michelle Obama has said in the past.

You can’t say that his way of answering is proof, he answers every question the same way just out of habit. He never commits to anything so he doesn’t have to backtrack. That is a problem.

if anyone out there thinks that Barack/Michelle Obama don’t have an underlying motive for wanting to get into the White House, I’ve got some real nice oceanfront property in Arizona for sale…………there is an old saying “time will tell”.

    3. Rusty Bridges on June 6th, 2008 9:42 am

yoyo mt, continued from the first whitey tape post. You call Obama “Black Dude”? That is what people with African ancestory want to be called now. And no, I have no worries about any competent and patriotic person running for President regardless of race or gender as I have stated previously. CRA? Who the H was asking about that? Stay with the issues at hand “dude”, you sound like a Senator. What? you want me to file an appeal with the judge in the Citibank case, you will have to help me on that one I’ll admit. You have no idea yymt, stay cool.

    4. A New Girl on June 6th, 2008 10:06 am

Hmnnnnnn…. I read somewhere this story has been reported as a hoax.

If such a tape does exist, all the Pepto and Extra-Strength Tylenol in the world isn’t goig to help Obama then!

      Time will tell. =)

    5. yoyo muffintop on June 6th, 2008 11:40 am

Rusty – you were trying to connect Obama to the subprime lending fiasco and I was trying to show that it was in fact the CRA Act that contributed, not a verdict by a judge against citibank.

      stay cool as well

unlike some on the right think, the more you repeat a rumor, doesn’t make it any less false.

a poll was done a while ago.
and there are still some nuts who think it was true that iraq had anything to do with 9/11.

    7. Dugga on June 6th, 2008 2:03 pm

I find it interesting that there’s even enough speculation on this point to require a denial of any type.

The fact that enough people believe that it’s *possible* that Michelle Obama *might* have made these remarks should tell you that something isn’t right about this candidate.

Say what you will about Dubya, but I don’t think you’d find anyone lending the slightest bit of credibility to a rumor about Laura calling someone the “n-word”. The idea is so preposterous that nobody would give that accusation a second thought. The very fact that it’s actually POSSIBLE that Mrs. Obama MIGHT have made such racial remarks is horrendous. If it’s believable in the least, then something isn’t right.

Change isn’t always good. It’s very easy to go from the frying pan to the fire.

“The fact that enough people believe that it’s *possible* that Michelle Obama *might* have made these remarks should tell you that something isn’t right about this candidate.”

      that is called prejudice.

i don’t know if Laura ever made racial remarks.
but what i do know is that her husband abandoned an entire city with a black majority.

In a segment at the top of the show on the surge of
evacuees to the Texas city, Barbara Bush said: “Almost
everyone I’ve talked to says we’re going to move to
      Houston.”

Then she added: “What I’m hearing which is sort of
scary is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is
      so overwhelmed by the hospitality.

“And so many of the people in the arena here, you
know, were underprivileged anyway, so this–this (she
chuckles slightly) is working very well for them.”

    9. God Himself on June 6th, 2008 2:46 pm

There isn’t the slightest credibility to this accusation either, Dugga. There is nothing in michelle Obama’s past which remotely comports with this absurdist story that she went on an ungrammatical rant against “whitey.” This kind of allegation seems credible to no one but the right wing, lunatic fringe.

Beyond that, the story can be thoroughly debunked in other ways. This shady Jihnson character claims that the tape was made at a Rainbow-PUSH conference at Trinity Church in 2004. However, there WAS no Rainbow-PUSH conference at Trinity in 2004. The conference was held at the Sheraton, and Muchelle Obama was not a speaker there. Let me repeat. MICHELLE OBAMA DID NOT SPEAK AT ALL. She was a “special guest” at a luncheon for the first African-American woman POW, but she did not speak and there was no “panel” (and no Louis Farrakhan either).

Furthermore, the conference occurred BEFORE Katrina, so it would have been impossible for her to talk about it.

There is no tape. Michelle Obama never spoke at all, much less went on a rant, and that’s the end of it. Even the network news crew that was videotaping has now come out and said that Michelle Obama did not speak and so no video is possible.

This is sheer, right wing fantasy and nothing more.

    10. Open a Window on June 6th, 2008 3:10 pm

Look to the LOCAL elected officials in New Orleans to understand what really happened during hurricane Katrina.

As for the “Whitey” tape? B. Hussein Obama’s friends, church affiliations and his complete and utter lack of experience should be enough for the intelligent voters to reject his candidacy.

What IS the price of arugula today, anyway?

    11. Dugga on June 6th, 2008 3:19 pm

      #8: “that is called prejudice.”
#9: “the story can be thoroughly debunked”

There is nothing prejudice about it whatsoever.

We’ve all heard Michelle and Barack’s pastor’s comments. The pastor they loved and embraced for 2 decades. The pastor that baptised their children. It’s absolutely, completely plausible (in light of Jeremiah Wright’s statements) to believe that Michelle, and yes, Barack as well, are cut from the same mold as the man who they just denounced.

I once attended a church for a few months that I really enjoyed. As my family and I considered becoming members, we took a close look at the beliefs of the church. When we found that their beliefs did not match our own, guess what we did? We changed churches. It didn’t take 20 years.

I have every reason to believe that Reverend Wright’s anti-American, racially charged attitudes are shared by two of his long-time church members.

I agree, the tape in question might not exist. And it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it were just another smear campaign. HOWEVER… It is *absolutely* plausible to believe that Michelle Obama COULD have said these things. If it were totally preposterous, that would be one thing. But it’s not preposterous. My point is that fact alone should indicate that this candidate is bad news.

    12. yoyo muffintop on June 6th, 2008 3:27 pm

Dugga – McCain called Asians g**ks. Would that count as being horrendous?
And if he didn’t mean to paint all asians as “g**ks”, only his gaurds, then why did he apologize?
No need for an apology if that was the case.

Sen. John McCain, speaking to a Republican dinner, June 1998: “Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno.”

A grown man who with premeditation calls a young girl ugly in a public arena for the sake of a laugh is a miserable, mean, cold-hearted person. WTF? The rest of it is tasteless for a public figure to utter, but dragging a teenage girl into it shows a fundamentally flawed character.

      1. Michelle Obama is NOT proud to be an American.
That pretty much sums it up right there. Oh, I am sorry, “for the first time, I am actually proud to be an American”. Do not even get me going on this angry, racist woman. Cute kids though, and I do think she appears to be a decent and caring Mother to them, at least.

      2. Just like Barrack has had to apologize for calling people “bitter “angry gun-carriers”…McCain has apoligized for that statement, now get over it. And, to boot- I am sorry but I don’t blame him for saying that since he meant it towards those who tortured and imprisoned he and his comrades. While I don’t condone any racial slurs either, I can understand where it came from.

      2. I want PROOF, YoYo, Proof. Please provide us with the video or audio link where McCain specifically said the above about Hillary Clinton/Janet Reno…was it a celebrity roast or comedy fundraiser? I don’t believe it, not for one second. So show it to us or prove it to us, other than re-typing it again…. Otherwise, I say not credible considering the source.

    14. A New Girl on June 6th, 2008 5:03 pm

      #13-, #2… I meant Chelsea Clinton, sorry.

BTW…he is attempting to be so “pc”…it’s killing me. g**ks, lol just spell it out, already. He can type in WTF( have to admit, one of my all time favorites) but he cannot spell out g**ks. Whatever…this is getting really annoying.

Here ya go New Girl. You know what I find interesting – somebody challenging someone’s credibility when they themselves have posted blatant lies as “100% truth”. And admitted such. Isn’t that right New Girl? Koran – do you remember. only a couple of days ago. too funny.

As far as the joke it’s a known fact – ask him. But, hey, if it’s done by John McCain it’s all right with you. And who the heck cares where the joke was made.
How’s the red koolaid today New Girl? Try a little blue raspberry mixed with cherry – it will give you a better perspective :)

      Dear YoYo Di**head: <—–insert c & k where necessary)

#1. I don’t tell blatant lies. Sorry, don’t have time to research politics all day long as you seem to. Fact checking is a good thing, yes. I’m also not a professional political analyst or a left wing bleeding heart liberal as you seem to be and I’m not going to apologize for that, either.

#2. Thanks for the link. From the article, appears as if that was the point of the fundraiser…making jokes and providing humor. Bet the Rep’s were rolling on the floor. Was it appropriate? No. Not going to go jumping off any bridges over it.

#3. Try to control your excitement.

P.S. I’m still voting for McCain. Hope he puts Romney on the ticket as VP.

You have a nice weekend, too—Thanks, I will.

people who start these smears can be really proud of themselves for feeding into prejudices of the gullible and thereby messing up the greatest democracy.

but i’ve got a feeling that these ‘swift boat tactics’ are not going to work this year.

he is leading in all polls.
      http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/us/general_election_mccain_vs_obama-225.html
and hillary is going to endorse him today.
so his lead will increase then.

so my advise is to invent a new tactic if you don’t want to end up with obama as president.

caesu: I have no clue whether the “whitey” tapes exists or not. I will agree that Larry Johnson as a source makes any rumor very suspect. However, it is not racist to believe it’s possible that the tape exists.

Those of us that believe it is possible don’t believe it because of the color or Michelle’s or Barack’s skin but rather because of the things that have come out of especially Michelle’s mouth and because of their close association with other people who have made similar statements.

I do agree that those that rumor about the existence of the tape should either put up or shut up. But I also note that Obama did not refute the claim that the tape exists. He merely said if anyone had something inappropriate they’d said, put it up.

There are way too many other reasons not to vote for Obama.

    21. Susan on June 7th, 2008 8:39 am

Where was OSAMA Barack HUSSEIN Obama when his “unproud to be an American for most of her life” wifey was making the “Whitey” RACIST comments??? Obama should have been OFFENDED by Michelle’s racists remarks and slapped her backwards considering his mother and grandmother are white!! Maybe he thought it was comical and cheered her on….

It’s nice to know exactly what the Obamas’ think of White America.

      Vote McCain :-)

      # 12 yo yo – I’d call the Asians geeks too (actually I’d call them much worse) if they held me hostage for years torturing me too! Think about it…

It’s called “Prisoner of War”. Now that’s what I call HORRENDOUS!!

      Obama, he speaks like Hitler

I have this recurring nightmare of Farrakhan or Wright spending the night at the White House in the Lincoln bedroom. Or Barack Hussein Obama having a luncheon on the lawns with Hamas representatives, Ayers, Meeks and company. Lord help us. This life-long will also be pulling the lever for John McCain, a man who is actually proud of his country.

We are judged by the company we keep.

I have a very good picture of Barack Hussein Obama’s kind of change he wants to make. I can’t beleive that the Democrat party could want this Obama instead of Hillary. I would never vote for Obama not because he’s black but because of all the anti-American friends he has.

Once again the DNC has come up with an inadequate candidate, Barack Hussein Obama is a empty suit and I don’t believe a word he says.

I am definately voting for John McCain. I like him alot so it is an easy move. He loves this country and went through hell during the POW days.

I am one of them Sc.D. a son of holocaust survivor who witnessed results of 1930’s appeasement, I saw what my mother had to live through when she was in the concentration camps. She saw what is like when you cannot defend yourself from the Nazi tyranny, she saw her family burn in the ovens of Auschwitz and Birkenau, she witnessed the les affaires of the comatose Europeans Jewry while their fellow Jews were being shipped to their death camps, and the silence of the conciliators, she bore the numbers of her arms so we will never relent in our pursuit of freedom. Today I see in Barack Obama, he speaks like Hitler and hardly set down and argue like a human being, he bring an old memories that invokes the fears of Hitler days, he promised everything under the sun and that worries me the most. Hitler promised the German people everything and only destruction came about.

Search “jewish lobby” on Obama’s blog site and see all the anti-Semite posts by Obama’s followers. Now ask yourself why they would post their garbage there – perhaps because they believe Obama agrees with them? Perhaps because Obama’s web master is very slow to clean this garbage off the web site?

MICHELLE OBAMA’S PRINCETON THESIS ON RACIAL DIVIDE

We’ve heard about them… go to Politico.com and read them for yourself. They’re all there!

      Parts 1-4 !!

Wonder if McCain will run an “honorable” campaign, refusing to criticize Barrack or Michelle Obama’s politics?
