Aruba’s Standard of Living is Going Down … Aruba Hit Harder than Many Countries Because Nothing is Produced There

Aruba is suffering the same economic slow down that is affecting many countries these days. Their standard of living is decreasing. However, in Aruba its worse due to the fact that nothing is actually produced in Aruba. Since Aruba is limited to the manner in how to deal with price shifting, Aruba may have to increase its hotel rates. If they make these increases, Aruba may not be able to compete with other islands in the region. Talk about a catch 22.

Mehran concluded that just like the rest of the world, our country is coping with ‘a fundamental shifting’ in the prices of oil, food, and metals.  He compares the current situation with the oil crisis in 1973.  He says that the price shifting is fundamental, because the prices will never go back to the old level.  This hits Aruba harder, because nothing is being produced here.  To maintain the same quality of life and pay for it, Aruba will have to increasing the rates of the hotel rooms; that’s the only way.  But this is at the same time a risk, because the island must also be able to continue competing in the region.

Standard of living is going down (Amigoe: 6/1/2008)

Parliamentarians have listened very attentively to the explanation of the Central Bank on the financial future of Aruba last Wednesday.

ORANJESTAD – The standards of living will drop within the foreseeable future, now that the inflation remains unprecedentedly high and there are no solutions.  Even the Central Bank of Aruba (CBA), whose main duty is watching the stability of the prices, can not do much.

That’s the message that the president of the Central Bank, Hassanali Mehran delivered to the Finance Standing Committee last Wednesday.  Mehran emphasized that several factors are impelling the inflation up and the monetary policy – the package of measures that a Central Bank can take to keep the florin stable – is of little use.  That can also be noticed in the trailing credit growth, which was only 4 percent in 2007.

Mehran anticipates that it won’t be long before the population will have to settle for a lower standard of life.  That development is ‘irreversible’.

Another development we are going to cope with is the effect on the crisis on the international financial market.  “Several financial institutions have lost a lot of money and are now extra careful with the granting of loans.”

Aruba will also experience this when she wants to take out a loan abroad.  Another important development that “fortunately had no effect yet”, is the threatening recession in the United States and its effect on our tourism.  “From the figures of the past high season it appears that there are no differences yet, but we must be very watchful of what the rest of the year may bring.”

ALTERNATIVE

Due to these developments, CBA expects the inflation to structurally stay high and now that monetary intervention has no effect, we must look for long term out of the box solutions.  Indexing the salaries to keep the standard of life up to level is just a temporary solution, emphasizes the Bank, all the more because it jacks up the prices and our country gets in a price-wage spiral.  Mehran is of the opinion that the time has come for the government and utility companies to seriously start thinking about alternative energy sources, like wind and sun and be less dependent of petroleum.

“A lot of investments make sense with the current prices.  Some utility companies said in the past that they will do something about it when one barrel of oil starts costing 30 dollars.  One barrel costs 135 dollars now and nothing is done yet.”

Mehran emphasizes that we do not need to totally abandon the petroleum as source of energy, but set off when the demand for oil becomes too big.  He is at the same time of the opinion that something needs to be done to stimulate people to use less energy.  “I see those huge cars that consume a lot of fuel.  How many hills do we actually have here in Aruba that we need SUV’s for climbing them”, said Mehran jokingly and then added seriously: “If they want to do that, fine, then they must pay.  There must be incentives for those that want to be environment-conscious.  There are currently several hybrid cars on the market and consumers must be stimulated to buy these.”

aruba should have unpegged their currency with the dollar while the dollar was falling.

now the are getting dollars in, but have to pay back the loans and interest in euro’s.
only way out is to take out a new loan from the netherlands.
      but that’s a temporary measure.

it was such a bad move to base their economy entirely on one sector: tourism.
maybe the other sector, the drugs trade is going to fill in.

      i hate aruba

let it die – just like joran and every other piece of crap that sits on their fat asses and does nothing about justice for Natalee.

let the island slip into the night. I DONT CARE

      but see, its an island
      Natalee was a person.

let it sink slowly into the ocean never to be seen again. who cares what happens to that evil disgusting wretched hell hole of an island.

and as far as the innocent people of aruba
yes, there are some there of course. and yes
its a shame but you know what ? you can move, go somewhere else, or take action. see, here is the thing, you have choices. UNLIKE the murder of Natalee, she had no choice she was KILLED bu paulus and joran and the other MORONS that have helped them escape their day in court.

      got it ?

good. now go put that in your crack pipe you wretched pigs.

But, hey—something IS actually produced in Aruba…

Young, Dutch & Suriname Rapists and Murderers who prey on young female American tourists ! Let’s not forget they also produce plenty of CORRUPT LEGAL OFFICIALS. Guess every Country does have it’s share of those, however. Can’t get around it.

And, I AGREE with #6, Caesu and your last paragraph….really was such a bad move to base Aruban economy on primarily on tourisim, isn’t it? As the old saying goes—then to bite the hand that feeds you—even bigger mistake.

    10. dennisintn on June 3rd, 2008 6:26 pm

it was a really bad move to count on lies to protect their precious tourism. being honest and up front with what happened to natalee and who was involved instead of trying to blame the victim and her family and friends just didn’t work out for them. they still haven’t learned that lesson. briesen and rudy croes are fools for following that road. it worked for max devries and bud larsen but that was before the the internet blogs gave people with memories that the lies told yesterday weren’t the lies they told today.

      Yo Mehran,

Here’s a suggestion. Get Angela Muzzlebutt & Julia Renfro off their electricity using computers for a few hours a day.

      Lots of benefits to that…

They will no longer be able to slander our
Natalee Ann, and her dear friends & family anymore…

This will stop people from thinking Aruba
is such a knee-high pile of sh.

Have we heard anything more from

      .

      Hey, Dutch Queen Bea…

I know there was something I was going to ask you,

      but, I, simply can’t remember what…

So, I’ll ask you THIS, instead:

How are those immagration numbers going?

      In America, we say:

      ‘Houston, we got a problem’

      So…….

      .

      Remember, you did say,

      ’tis looking mighty bad

      .

      Sooooo…….

Are you part of the solution

Standard of living going down the tubes, so is the number of tourists going to Aruba….September of this year AA is canceling direct flights to Aruba on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to and from New York, making it hard for business men to travel through the week and no new tourists for 3 week days, also American Eagle flights from San Juan to Aruba and St Maarten will be canceled….

I’m sure we will see even a larger decline of cruise ships heading for Aruba….this means higher prices on everything for the island…more people out of job…more crime…vacation in the US…support our country…lots of things to do and see, North, South, East and West…Aruba can’t even find their own missing persons…of course, they didn’t look to hard….

Aruba is way too expensive, too far to travel and way to unsafe….I guess it will become a full blown island for shipping and transporting drugs…

    42. Patti on June 4th, 2008 3:34 pm

I’m glad to see that people are seperating themselves from the island. Although, it is troubling to me that the Netherlands always seems to leave a bloody trail behind, everytime they pull thier ‘colonial’ occupation out of a country.

      Look what happened to India…

Thank God we had Ghandi to teach us his peaceful ways, but even with that, there was an enormous amount of blood spilt in South Africa, racial upset and, eventually, an underground of militants that would cut off your ears, poke out your eyes and remove your tongue and lips for speaking against the oppressors. It wasn’t long before they were killing one another. By then, Ghandi had died and was replaced… finally, we have made a little progress, only to be faced with a diamond frenzy. Now, it is for the diamonds that people are suffering.

There is no doubt those that think that Human Slavery should never be abolished… the Arawak Nation, being one of them. So there continues to be human trafficking, human suffering and the exploitation of waaaaaay too many children. And the Netherlands is a big player in all of this, because of all the other countries in Europe, it has the loosest laws prohibiting the trafficking of women and children AND the worst track record for inforcing a ‘human slave’ condition through their colonialization. They live as kings among paupers… lusting after the prohibited, pleasures of the flesh.

True Arubans need to think about THEIR futures. They outnumber the forces that are in Aruba, yet look upon themselves as being unworthy, powerless; many of them falling into the trap of illegal drug use, alcoholism, gambling and womanizing to try to solve the problem, thus being caught up in the ‘life’ that will soon mean their deaths.

AIDS, HIV, Hepatitus B and C, prison time and general poor health that accompanies the results of years and years of drug abuse which leaves broken families living in sub-human conditions; are all concerns we have for Aruba, but; like I said before… these are the same things that left India and South Africa in a stage of unrest for decades.

I think the Netherlands needs to be more responsible. If pulling out of Aruba means placing the country into the hands of an Arawak tyrant who refuses to abide by the rules of the United Nations, the State Department and even the rules of the Netherlands, themselves, whom have invested, literally, millions and millions of dollars into the development of the island; I think they need to rethink their position. Simply to throw more good money after bad, knowing that the current government is not working with a budget, nor keeping books of their spending and who’s own Prime Minister is skimming from the top to assure a beautiful get-a-way of his own in Spain, overlooking the Mediteranian; is a very bad idea. Especially, when you consider the amount of development that needs to be done, just to take care of the homelessness. Their children walk about barefoot, while their Arawak King lines his pockets with the money that YOU give to him. He has created his own ‘Little Havana’ where only the crooked, criminal can get ahead.

I find it AMAZING that in over two-hundred years of occupation, the Dutch never built, even one windmill. What does that tell you? Aruba was producing something and perhaps its’ location is a hint as to what that something is… It must be convenient to have Aruba so close to the other Arawak Nations, Venezuella and Columbia, where they think nothing of selling a child into a life of hard labor in the cocoa fields.

      Patti,

Perhaps they simply felt they were somewhat overrated and a bit gauche… and when approached with the windmill erecting concept, they just threw up their arms, and were all like… Nahhhh mannn, f. it! We are so done with the windmill thing at this juncture, it’s really not even funny?

    46. yoyo muffintop on June 4th, 2008 8:07 pm

“IM SERIOUS … GOD .. IS LOVE”

#44 – If God is love, why did he make Natalee go through a brutal rape and murder (as you say).
      Lotta love there.

    47. misskatie on June 4th, 2008 8:17 pm

      yoyo
I could spend my whole life trying to explain it to you
but you would find criticism in anything I or anyone has said to you…
      will someone xplain to yoyo
because I just dont feel like doing a debate on why god allows things to happen…he didnt make her go through it… dummy!!

    48. yoyo muffintop on June 4th, 2008 8:58 pm

#47 – I gotta feeling you won’t explain because you cannot. You’re just not bright enough. imo.
But, as you say in #44 (HE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO TORMENT MUCH LONGER), I guess it’s good that God’s going to stop the torment soon. But I’m curious as to why he would allow such torment in the first place and does he have a time table. I mean, you claim they have been doing this kind of stuff for years. When will this loving God stop it?

Good suggestion on the movie Ghost though – It’s torture for a guy to watch that movie front to back. Your right, that is hell…for a dude at least. Chicks (and maybe Satish)…heaven.
      That’s what you meant right?

    49. Carpe on June 4th, 2008 9:12 pm

      Hey Yo,

Maybe I’ll be surprised and God will
answer my prayers and dispense some
of that love in the Kalpoes, Joran,
and his dad’s heads this weekend, eh?

      I always keep the faith.

    50. Patti on June 4th, 2008 9:32 pm

      Carpe:

I wasn’t trying to be funny.

I suppose that in the last few decades, we have found the need for alternative energy and turbo energy was introduced and erected in many areas of the U.S. But the original use of the windmill was to provide water to the farmer’s crops.

My point being that the Dutch were never interested in any long-term benefit for Aruba or it’s people. Just as they have done in the past, their colonialization, simply means using another slave-class to serve the needs of their masters… in the case of Aruba, I believe the needs of their masters were women, children, drugs and a place to launder their money.

So now, we have a class of people that are supposedly free, that cannot be liberated because of the continued ties to organized crime; mainly, human trafficking, drug manufacturing and distribution, drug trafficking and money laundering… those were the ONLY resources that were utilized by the Dutch. They never had their eye on the future of Aruba, but, rather took what they needed to support their own needs and left Aruba in a state of reliance. If you are totally reliant on everyone else for your real needs, food, water, clothing, housing, etc. then you will never prosper at being independent.

Someone said they made a mistake by investing all their money into the travel and tourism industries, but even that industry was one that was built to fulfill the needs of their masters, the Dutch; and I must say, it has all the perks to go with it including sex tourism. Sometimes things just aren’t THAT funny… besides I think enough people have had their fun, and, now is the time to find a solution.

      .

      Yo Yo:

Was it GOD that tied Natalee to that rock? Or was it in defiance of God that she was tied there. God is love, but he doesn’t live in the hearts of every man… only the ones that take the time to come to know him. It’s always been our choice.

      Good

      or

      Bad

That’s what it boils down to.

      .

      Miss Katie:

Like Steve said, it will be up to the Lord to exercise justice against these men. The sin they committed was as much against God as it was Natalee. In fact, it can be said that Natalee was persecuted because of her belief in Him. She died in the Lord, and none of their torturous ways could take THAT away from her. Perhaps, we will find a hero in Aruba… but, if not, we know that we always will have a hero in Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

Vengence is mine, sayeth the Lord. Not a word from his mouth will ever come back unfulfilled, so we can rely on that!

      .

      Hang in there.

      Yo Yo is a troll.

Take it as a complement that she seeks to discredit you. It can only mean one thing:

      You’re on the right track.

      .

    51. Patti on June 4th, 2008 9:47 pm

      Yo Yo:

Leave Miss Katie alone, you tormenter!

We’re not going to waste our time arguing with you about God. It’s not becoming. You’re not really interested in God; besides, knowing him doesn’t have anything to do with being bright, educated or even a scholar. It has to do with the heart. Another thing Aruba DOESN’t have.

      .

      Boycott Aruba
      Justice for Natalee
      and ALL the Others!

      .

      Sorry, Carpe…

      I can take a joke.

Didn’t mean to jump all over you.

I’m just growing impatient and am near

the point of fully giving up on any

chance that we, as men and women, are

going to be able to solve anything.

      .

One comment that Steve made, really touched me.

It was the part about not wanting us to perish.

I am fearful, that we spend too much time blogging

      Patti,

Stick a f-ing carrot in it, you poser,

      and give it a rest.

I don’t talk about your daily

squirrelly crap about whacking an Arawak

      in his nuts, and tying

the Statue of Liberty to a rock.

      A GRIP > Get one.

Look for it all this week ON SALE

#50 Patti: But God let Natalee be eaten (according to you). Why would he do that? If God could not have stopped that event from happening, why do people pray to God to have certain “events(so to speak)” happen?
Huh. Strange form of Love if you ask me. Wouldn’t you say so as well?

carpe – maybe. got any pics of swayze makin’ a clay pot for hashish satish?

    58. Patti on June 4th, 2008 10:41 pm

      Yo Yo:

      To correct what I said…

I said that the Arawak Indian practices human sacrificing and cannibalism. But, as to whether they ate Natalee, or anyone else for that matter, is not a part of my own personal knowledge. One can only speculate.

      But, one thing for sure,

      people, like you,

      will eat their words.

      .

      But, don’t worry, Yo Yo…

      Our God is merciful…

      He won’t take any pleasure

      in torturing you or having

      you watch as his priests

      drink your blood, before

      they rip your heart out.

      .
