Miami Dolphins & NY Giants to play NFL Game in London, England … “People Spoke English in London”

The Miami Dolphins and New York Giants are going to be playing a regular seasonMap_world NFL game in London, England this Sunday. Other than the fact that this is a ridiculous idea to market the NFL on a global stage, the game makes all the sense in the world. So much for football being about planned routines, implementing game plans and having players rest from the brutal hits they take during the course of a game. Let’s forget the 7 hour plane fight and the jet lag. The only thing more absurd and comical than NFL suits unfairly making two teams travel to London to play a game are the following comments from Miami Dolphins linebacker, Channing Crowder. Please tell us that he was kidding and being sarcastic.

Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder confessed today he didn’t know until Tuesday that people spoke English in London.

Crowder, a former Florida Gator and Atlanta native, apparently isn’t sure where the plane is headed when it takes off this afternoon for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants in Wembley Stadium.

“I couldn’t find London on a map if they didn’t have the names of the countries,” Crowder said. “I swear to God. I don’t know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I learned that.

“I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him. That’s the closest thing I know to London. He’s black, so I’m sure he’s not from London. I’m sure that’s a coincidental name.” (Palm Beach Post)

So do you think he was kidding or serious? What do you think?

OK, I’ll tell you that he was kidding. Apparently he’s known for sense of humor and one-liners.

Don’t know the guy, but per the Dolphin website, he was National Honor Society in high school. (I forget the particulars of his college career, but I dont’ think GPA was mentioned.) Seems to do a lot of charity/public service work.

Oh, I hope he was kidding. Hasn’t he heard of the Beatles? I try to guess if someone with a British accent is a Brit or an Aussie, but I did notice both were English speaking. I actually thought that somehow, someway, that was why we got along with them, unlike every other country on the planet. Well, except Canada. Oh, wait! They speak English too! I think I’m on to something here.

Also, there are blacks in London and I already knew this. Doesn’t this guy watch Dancing with the Stars? Hasn’t he heard of the Spice Girls?

In my life I have known more then a few NFL players and this really does not shock nor surprise me.
In our area The Football Hall of Fame city I have talked and witnessed and heard all sorts of things like this .
Here, if a young man is GOOD at football and keeps himself healthy both in high school and in collage the school programs WILL find a way to have this player both attend and PASS their scholastic classes so as to be eligible to play. Now this makes NO matter what or how much they learn from these classes but they WILL end up with a degree .
This is a very sad thing to do to these young men but many come from low income areas and their feeling is that once they get on an NFL or NBA pro team then they will have all the $$$ that they should ever need .
Many many of these men are functionally illiterate and get along through life on a whisper and a prayer and if they are lucky enough to be selected to be a Sunday hero many of them lose or are cheated out of their BIG BUCKS by unscrupulous Attys, agents and a host of others just like in the 20′s thru the 60′s many entertainers (Rock n Rollers) were left basically penniless because they did not know enough to protect their own money and as long as they could buy just about anything they wanted they didn’t question the status of their accounts .
Even now in these days of supposed enlightenment quite a few of our PRO sports hero’s as well as entertainers seem to feel that they must bring their ghetto friends , attitudes and behavior’s with them to enjoy all of life’s successes and this goes for the Movie and Music stars also because they are looked upon and made to feel like Gods that often wind up Undereducated (Even with a paper diploma ) and either in Jail or in trouble with the courts and even though sad we the public and our schools ENABLE these ” SUPERSTARS ” to live this lifestyle but many cannot even find places on a map or a phone number in the yellow pages .
Must be nice to have that kind of money and still be as sharp as a rock huh ? .

What a statement about the allocation of wealth … these lunatic sports teams have enough money to schedule a sports game half the world away, or so, just on a whimsey.

What a statement about social values.

You sure are correct there Richard, while we have thousands and thousands that cannot get health care or are hungry and yet things like this seem to take a precedence .

I think it is a good idea. The game sold out within hours of tickets being released, and the NFL got over 30,000 ticket requests. There will be 90,000 people packing Wembley Stadium. MAking the players go? I doubt that many of them minded getting paid a lot of money to travel to London for over a week. They arrived in London several days ago so effects of jet lag will be gone. Not everyone gets upset at the idea of travel, especially to a place you normally don’t get to go.

I heard today, on a friend’s TV, that in one place in California where the fires have died down, a football stadium that has served as an emergency shelter is being emptied of the people.

In a day or so, there’s going to be a football game there.

Is it only me, or does this sound like some kind of shared insanity? I’m glad that conditions are such as to allow the people to leave … but one day a place is used to shelter thousands of homeless, and the next day they’re ousted and a football game is being held?

Not only that, but the people reading this stuff on TV didn’t even do a double-take. I guess the news is ALL fluff to them.

Seems to me that there’s a breakdown somewhere.
