Boston Red Sox Manny Ramirez is Right regarding Sports … “It’s not like it’s the end of the world”

Sports is a game and although to fans, who sometimes take it too seriously, it is still Manny_ramirezjust a job to the athletes. More so, winning and losing in sports is far from life or death. Kudos to Manny Ramirez … This was not a case of Manny being Manny … it is Manny being right!

Who knew that the words uttered by Boston Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez would be far more than just “Manny being Manny”. Stating that losing a baseball game, “It’s not like it’s the end of the world” is correct. My apologies to RED SOX NATION of which I am apart of; however, can e get some perspective in life? For the first time in a long time, maybe ever … Manny was not being Manny by the words he stated, he was actually being rather responsible and insightful.

“Everybody knows what Manny means, but people like to flip things around and that’s why he is the way he is,” said Ortiz, referring to Ramirez’ reluctance to speak with the media. “He said, from my understanding, that (if) we lose, it’s not going to be the end of the world. We have another season coming, but we’re trying to win. But people see things the way they want to. . . . He doesn’t talk, and that’s the reason why. People always try to misunderstand the reason why. People always try to misunderstand what the guy says.” (Boston Herald)

Less than a week later we are presented with a college sports story that puts Manny Ramirez words to the test. The flight carrying the USC Trojans football team to play Notre Dame and met with a near catostrophic end. As the plane was was attempting to land during severe weather nearly met with a tragic outcome as pilots struggled to land.

Some passengers were thrown from their seats by turbulence as lightning crackled around the storm-tossed plane, USC sports information director Tim Tessalone told The Associated Press on Friday. Safety Taylor Mays was screaming.

“It was a little bit of a roller coaster drop there for a minute,” Tessalone said. “We had some people fly out of some seats. Everybody is fine, but it was a frightening little dip there.”

The pilot aborted the approach and circled around the storm before landing without incident about 20 minutes later to the relief of the shaken team and the spouses of some staff members also on the flight, Tessalone said. (Yahoo Sports)

This was life and death folks. Although sports teaches young men and women valuable lessons in life, I can guarantee that this experience taught the football men of Troy a more valuable lesson that they will take with them the rest of their lives.

Sports fans and especially sports writers need to really understand what is important in life and smell the roses. For fans, sports is supposed to be entertaining. Although we all get down when our team loses, there is always next year. However, a plane crash with the loss of life like what happened to the 1970 University of Marshall football team killing all aboard … that is life and death. Or the 16 killed from Cal Poly in 1960, the University of Evansville basketball team that died in 1977 or the endless list of sports athletes who have dies in air-related crashes.

We are presented with life and death situations every day where adults, teens and children are abducted and murdered every day. Let’s put in all in to perspective and truly realize what is really … LIFE and DEATH.

UPDATE I: Red Sox Even ALCS, Force Game 7 With 12-2 Win

From the brink of elimination and the depths of a yearlong slump, J.D. Drew helped the Boston Red Sox force a Game 7.

The struggling Red Sox right fielder hit a grand slam and drove in five runs and, behind yet another clutch start by Curt Schilling, the Red Sox battered the Cleveland Indians 12-2 Saturday night to tie the AL championship series at three games apiece.
