In Aruba … Getting Rid of the Trash … Talk about Symbolism

Aruba getting rid of their trash problem by banning plastic bags; a new bill to ban the import and use of plastic bags.  Now if they could only put forth the same effort by ridding themselves of other elements of trash. Talk about your symbolism.

Amigoe, Sept. 10, 2007: Law to ban plastic bags being drawn up

The only way to combat littering is according to Milieu-minister Wever, a ban on plastic bags.

ORANJESTAD — Minister Booshi Wever is working on a new bill to ban the import and use of plastic bags per January 1st, 2008.

The minister, who is among others responsible for environment policy, says that a legal prohibition is the only solution for combating littering of the island with plastic bags.  “All the efforts to combat this with information films on TV didn’t help.  We are still confronted with plastic bags in trees, cactuses, and even in the sea.  Other than being a very ugly sight, animals can also die from eating the bags.”  The minister says that Serlimar has a lot of work removing the bags from the countryside every day.  An unrewarding task is the opinion of the minister, because the cleaned trees and cactuses are littered again with plastic grocery bags the next day.

The bill is being drawn up in cooperation with the ministry of justice.  The minister will soon inform the importers of plastic bags of his plan.

Aruba, what are you going to do about the trash
who slip drugs into drinks at C and C’s? Even
ALE knows it’s going on and ignores the situation.

Aruba, when are you going to punish the trash who
robbed Natalee Holloway of her life?

Ban enticing young American teens to your island for unlimited drinking.

Ban lying prosecutors, travel agents, tourism association, policemen, investigators too.

      Aruba,
That is one way of going about stopping the problem. I think the another way of going about
it would be, to put people like rapist Joran Vandersloot and his co-murderer of a father in jail and stop them from stuffing dead tourists down in plastic bags.

Your island is a freak show. You people are sick,
and everybody needs to hear about it.

…..another example of Aruba not seeing the forest for the trees IMO. They see the trash bags blowing around….so eliminate them! Yes there is a trash problem in aruba made more obvious by the very strong winds. I would think a few more plausible solutions would be routine trash pick-up all neigborhoods,
trash containers that would be secure ie not susceptible to blowing away, garbage recepticles at public places (if there are refuse containers at the beaches for example they are usually open top half-barrel type things if I recall correctly), canvas bags for grocery, and even if they cost more how about biodegradable “plastic” bags? Aruba don’t go for the quick cheap fix of eliminating plastic bags…..control the cause first, the symptoms will then intern be eliminated.

Stuck on stupid. Just throw their left over food in trashcans with no bags in them? Apparently they don’t care about sanitation hazards, just so it looks pretty to tourists, so they can spend more money. All they can worry about is this/

Hey Aruba how about underage drinking, gambling, contributing to minor, framing people for crimes, obstruction, and how about that little problem of Joran, Deepak, Satish being the last ones seen with Natalee that leaves a far uglier site to your island than trash bags.

Aruba has some nerve and lack of ethics to
try to pull a fast one and hide the fact
that a tourist was killed on its island.

That fact that Aruba even ATTEMPTED to deny a tourist the right of justice should outrage tourists all over the world.

How DARE Aruba treat a tourist this way!
How DARE Aruba try to pull a fast one?!

      Shame on Aruba!

Just think, if Aruba hadn’t been caught in its corruption and cover-up with Natalee’s case, it would have just continued to operate in the same manner regarding tourists who were met with foul play.

Now Aruba is whining because it’s been EXPOSED. Aruba has been CAUGHT
      in its corruption and cover-up!

Were other tourists and families victims of Aruba’s “missing tourist” scam? You know the one–where Aruba gives the family the runaround and tells them to go home while they pretend to investigate.

Here’s a question for you, Aruba. How on EARTH could authorites have missed Bud Larson’s wallet that was simply
stuck between cushions in his hotel room?

Wow–that’s some “search” you did. *sarcasm intended*

JQK said it best when he said (paraphrased), “Don’t go to Aruba because if something bad happens to you, nothing will be done about it.”

Details emerge in W.Va. torture case By JOHN RABY and TOM BREEN, Associated Press Writers
      1 hour, 1 minute ago

BIG CREEK, W.Va. – For at least a week, authorities say, a young black woman was held captive in a mobile home, forced to eat animal waste, stabbed, choked and repeatedly sexually abused — all while being peppered with a racial slur.

It wasn’t until deputies acting on an anonymous tip drove to a ramshackle trailer deep in West Virginia’s rural hills that she was found. Limping toward the door with her arms outstretched, she uttered, “Help me,” the Logan County sheriff’s office said.

Six people, all white, including a mother and son and a mother and daughter, have been arrested and could face federal hate crime charges in the suspected attack on 20-year-old Megan Williams, who remained hospitalized Tuesday with injuries that included four stab wounds in the leg, and black and blue eyes. Her right arm was in a cast.

“I’m better,” Williams told The Associated Press in a voice barely above a whisper.

“I don’t understand a human being doing another human being the way they did my daughter,” Carmen Williams said Tuesday from the Charleston Area Medical Center. “I didn’t know there were people like that out here.”

The AP generally does not identify suspected victims of sexual assault, but Williams and her mother agreed to release her name.

A prosecutor said police are investigating the possibility that the victim was lured to the house and attacked by a man she had met online, but Carmen Williams insisted that wasn’t the case. “This wasn’t from the Internet,” she said.

Authorities were still looking for two people they believe drove the woman to the house where she was abused, said Logan County Chief Deputy V.K. Dingess. Deputies also interviewed Williams on Tuesday morning. An FBI spokesman in Pittsburgh, Bill Crowley, confirmed that the agency is looking into possible civil rights violations.

The case is “something that would have come out of a horror movie,” Logan County Sheriff W.E. Hunter said.

The home is in a forlorn part of Logan County about 50 miles southwest of Charleston, where the scattered homes are marked by “No Trespassing” signs. An old shed linked to a mobile home by an extension cord is what authorities say became a hellish prison for Williams.

Deputies found her when they drove to the home on Saturday after receiving an anonymous tip from someone who witnessed the abuse, officials said.

The woman was forced to eat rat and dog feces and drink from a toilet, according to the criminal complaint filed in magistrate court based on what the suspects told deputies. She also had been choked with a cord, it alleges. Deputies say the woman was also doused with hot water while being sexually assaulted.

One of those arrested, Karen Burton, is accused of cutting the woman’s ankle with a knife. She used the N-word in telling the woman she was victimized because she is black, according to the criminal complaint.

Carmen Williams said doctors told her daughter she may be well enough to leave the hospital within a few days, although a nurse said the young woman’s condition was listed as “under evaluation.”

“I just want my daughter to be well and recover,” Carmen Williams said. “I know the Lord can do anything.”

The six suspects were arrested Saturday and Sunday. Frankie Brewster, the 49-year-old woman who owns the home where the suspected attacks occurred, is charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, malicious wounding and giving false information during a felony investigation.

Her son, Bobby R. Brewster, 24, also of Big Creek, is charged with kidnapping, sexual assault, malicious wounding and assault during the commission of a felony.

Frankie Brewster was released from prison in September 2000 after serving five years for voluntary manslaughter and wanton endangerment in the death of an 84-year-old woman, according to court records.

Burton, 46, of Chapmanville, is charged with malicious wounding, battery and assault during the commission of a felony.

Her daughter Alisha Burton, 23, of Chapmanville, and George A. Messer, 27, of Chapmanville, are charged with assault during the commission of a felony and battery.

Danny J. Combs, 20, of Harts, is charged with sexual assault and malicious wounding.

All six remained in custody Tuesday in lieu of $100,000 bail each, and all have asked for court-appointed attorneys.

Why doesn’t the “health” minister just

Judge Gives Dr. Phil, CBS Access To Holloway Files
(CBS) LOS ANGELES Lawyers for CBS Television and “Dr. Phil” McGraw can have access to e-mails and Aruban documents about two brothers arrested, then released, in the disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, according to a ruling obtained Wednesday.

Deepak and Satish Kalpoe allege they were defamed in a Sept. 15, 2005, “Dr. Phil” show during which it was alleged that they gave Holloway a date-rape drug and had non-consensual group sex with her. The episode also implied the siblings helped kill Holloway and dispose of her body, according to court papers.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Edward A. Ferns issued a 12-page ruling Friday that upheld the tentative ruling he reached in favor of CBS and the celebrity doctor before he took the case under submission Aug. 30.

“The documents are relevant to the most fundamental issues in this case,” Ferns stated. “There is no other (information) which can substitute for the documents sought by the defendants due to the nature of this case.”

Ferns stated it is not important that the majority of the documents sought by CBS and McGraw attorneys are in the hands of Aruban authorities.

“Most, if not all documents originated in Aruba, simply because that is where Natalee Holloway went missing and where the criminal investigation arose,” Ferns stated. “The competing policies of California and Aruba would not be undermined by production (of the documents).”

Attorneys for CBS and McGraw maintain they need the information to refute the Kalpoes’ defamation suit filed last Dec. 13. But lawyers for the brothers say much of the information the defense wants is in the hands of Aruban authorities, who they say have refused to release it until the investigation is complete into Holloway’s disappearance.

Holloway was vacationing with friends on the Caribbean island resort when the 18-year-old vanished the night of May 30, 2005.

The Kalpoes and another Aruban resident, Joran van der Sloot, were arrested in the girl’s disappearance but later released.

The Kalpoes and van der Sloot have maintained that they were not involved in her disappearance. They denied rumors and allegations they had sex with her.

Attorneys for CBS and McGraw claim documents exist showing the Kalpoes admitted to both Aruban authorities and to van der Sloot that they had sex with Holloway.

In a separate declaration to Aruban police, van der Sloot said “that he thought … Deepak Kalpoe had raped the girl and thereupon murdered her,” according to the defense’s court papers.

The CBS/McGraw lawyers also want copies of all e-mails between the Kalpoes and other people regarding the case.

Edmund J. Siegert, an attorney for the Kalpoes, said during the Aug. 30 hearing that he is “between the old proverbial rock and a hard place” because his ability to comply with Ferns’ order is dependent upon what Aruban authorities decide to give him.

“No one wants to thumb their noses at any of the institutions here,” Siegert said. “I’m trying to balance … and not get anyone in trouble with any tribunal.”

But defense attorney Charles L. Babcock said during the same hearing that the lawyers for the Kalpoes were being “duplicitous” in their arguments because Aruban authorities have often discussed the Holloway case in the media.

“When it helps them they will solicit statements from authorities in Aruba about this case,” Babcock said.

In another ruling today Ferns has now made final, the judge denied a motion by the CBS/McGraw attorneys to dismiss the estate of private investigator Jamie Skeeters as a defendant in the lawsuit.

The Kalpoes allege that associates of McGraw sent Skeeters to Aruba to develop material for a segment of the show dealing with the Holloway case.

Skeeters, using a family friend and co-worker of Deepak Kalpoe, gained his confidence by saying he could help exonerate both Kalpoes of any wrongdoing in the Holloway case, the suit states.

Skeeters then secretly videotaped and recorded an interview with Deepak, according to the suit. Part of the interview was broadcast during the “Dr. Phil” segment, including statements the suit maintains were “significantly manipulated and altered.”

      Skeeters died Jan. 24.

In addition to defamation, the Kalpoes’ suit alleges invasion of privacy, emotional distress, fraud, deceit and civil conspiracy.

The CBS/McGraw lawyers maintain the Kalpoes are public figures who are obligated to show the defendants knew the statements during the “Dr. Phil” episode were false, or that they acted in reckless disregard for the truth.

A case management conference is set for Nov. 7.

On June 1, another judge dismissed a wrongful death case against the Kalpoes by Holloway’s parents, ruling the Los Angeles Superior Court did not have jurisdiction. The parents maintained the brothers conceded jurisdiction when they filed their lawsuit in Los Angeles against CBS and McGraw.

It will be very interesting to see how forthcoming, if at all, Aruba will be in this matter. We have no way that I know of to enforce the ruling of a California court in Aruba.

What I want to know is … if Aruba continues to stonewall, dig its heels in, and basically (pardon my language) screw us around, will our government finally do something?

This might give Aruba a golden opportunity to reverse course and show that it wants justice to be done in Natalee’s case.

Hear that Aruba? You’re still stuck on stupid folks!~ To think that you can bring a lawsuit and not turn over ALL PERTINENT information and expect this case to move forward shows even Aruba’s best & brightest came up with this bright idea are a laughing stock to the world!

The Sloots’s Kalpoe’s & other’s close to the case are being watched. Their live’s are not their own anymore and may never be again.

A blood drive on the next upcoming May 30th 2008 in rememberence of Natalee would be so cool.

Help other’s donating blood to the Red Cross and show Aruba that Natalee Ann Holloway is NOT forgotton and never will be.

      Can we make that happen?

    50. mayan_moons on September 14th, 2007 12:39 am

Even better would that Natalee would be the first in an on going blood drive for other missing person’s on a quarterly basis.

      Hey Carpe!

I knew from the get go that this sham of a case was going to go nowhere fast without proper discovery. No suprise’s here….but it was entertaining watching Greta and her panel mocking and laughing at Aruba once again!~
